Unearth Game Rules
Let’s dive into the fascinating world of Unearth, a game that will challenge your strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Are you ready for an adventure like no other? Then buckle up and prepare for a thrilling ride!
In Unearth, you and your friends will be embarking on a quest for lost ruins, seeking to unearth their hidden treasures. But beware, this journey is not for the faint of heart. Danger lurks around every corner, and you must stay sharp if you want to emerge victorious.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to roll the dice and claim numbered stones that match the values rolled. These stones represent your team’s efforts in excavating and rebuilding these ancient ruins. Each stone you collect brings you closer to uncovering the mysteries of these long-forgotten civilizations.
But there’s a catch – other players will also be vying for the same stones, and only one can claim each treasure. In this game of strategy and competition, you must outwit your opponents and strategically choose where to play your stones. Do you go for the low-hanging fruit or aim for the more valuable treasures?
As you delve deeper into the game, you’ll discover the importance of control markers. These markers not only protect your claimed ruins but also grant you additional bonuses. By strategically placing control markers, you can block your opponents’ paths and secure your own dominance over the ruins.
But remember, victory is not achieved by individual efforts alone. Collaboration is key in Unearth. Form alliances, share resources, and work together towards a common goal. Only by pooling your strengths can you hope to outsmart your opponents and claim the ultimate victory.
As you navigate through the twists and turns of the game, don’t forget the power of the legendary crystals. These mystical artifacts hold the key to unlocking even greater treasures, but they also come with great risks. Will you dare to harness their power, or will you shy away from the unknown?
So, my friend, are you ready to embark on this unforgettable quest? Unearth awaits, with its mysteries and challenges. Delve into the depths, claim your treasures, and emerge as the ultimate archaeologist. The journey begins now – are you up for the challenge?
You and I were part of a magnificent civilization, once upon a time. Our empire was filled with marvels and knowledge, admired by everyone. But alas, tragedy struck, and everything crumbled into ruins. Now, you and your fellow tribe members find yourselves on a quest to reclaim what was lost, to mend what was shattered, and to rediscover our true roots.
Roll One Die Each Turn
When I play the game, I have five dice that represent my tribe of Delvers. The objective is to choose one die and roll it on a specific Ruin every turn. But before I roll the die, I can play my Delver cards to make my efforts even better.

Discover Lost Ruins
When you find Lost Ruins cards, they can earn your tribe valuable points. To increase your chances of claiming Ruins, aim for high rolls. Selecting the right Ruins is crucial. Remember, the greater the number of Ruins you have of the same color, the more points you’ll earn!
Acquire Stones for Building Wonders
If you roll a 1, 2, or 3 with any die, you have the opportunity to take a Stone from the Ruin. By collecting a set of 6 Stones, you can construct a magnificent Wonder. Wonders come in different varieties – some grant you points, while others bestow special abilities upon you.
Ruins and Wonders: The Path to Victory
As the End of Age card emerges, we must act swiftly. Time is slipping through our fingers, and our chance to triumph is dwindling. It’s a race to claim the remaining Ruins and accumulate points from Wonders and sets of Ruins. The player with the highest total will emerge as the victor!
Let me offer you a word of advice: utilize your Delvers wisely. These skilled individuals hold the key to unlocking the Ruins that are most valuable. Compete fiercely for these coveted Ruins, as they will contribute greatly to your point tally. But don’t stop there. Build magnificent Wonders that will provide your tribe with a strategic advantage, granting you an edge over your rivals. It’s time to restore your people to their former glory.

Welcome to the Game
Hey there! We’re all here to have some fun and compete against each other. The goal is simple – I and my team of Delvers are trying to collect as many Ruins as possible and gather Stones to build amazing Wonders.
There are different ways to win in Unearth. You can claim Ruins by having the highest number on the dice. So, rolling high can be pretty rewarding. On the other hand, to get Stones for building Wonders, you’ll need to roll low. Both Ruins and Wonders will earn us points at the end of the game, so let’s plan our strategy carefully.
Getting Set Up
- First things first, let’s place all of the Stones tiles in the cloth bag.
- Now, it’s time to shuffle the Delver Deck. Make sure to deal two Delver Cards to each player.
- Next, let’s shuffle the Ruins Deck. Make sure to deal one Ruins card facedown to each player. You can peek at your own card, but keep it hidden from the others until the game ends.
When playing the game, there are a few steps you need to take to set up the board correctly. First, I’ll explain the process in simple terms, and then I’ll lay out the steps for you.
To start, you’ll want to remove the top five cards from the Ruins Deck. Be careful not to look at them! Put these cards aside and out of sight.
Next, it’s time to shuffle the End of Age Deck. Once shuffled, randomly select one card from the deck and place it on the bottom of the Ruins Deck. The remaining cards can be put back in the box without peeking at them.
Now, it’s time to reveal some Ruins cards. Take the top five cards from the Ruins Deck and place them face up in the center of the table. These cards will be important as the game progresses.
After that, it’s time to add some Stones to the Ruins. Randomly draw Stones from the bag and place them on each Ruin. Look for the hex-shaped icon in the bottom right corner of each Ruin to see how many Stones to add.
Lastly, it’s time to set up the Named Wonders. Shuffle the Named Wonders deck and draw a number of cards equal to the number of players, plus two. Arrange these cards on the table and place the corresponding tokens on top of each card. Any unused Named Wonders cards and tokens can be put back in the box.
And that’s it! With these steps, you’ll be ready to start the game. Enjoy!
To start the game,
- Combine the Lesser Wonder and Greater Wonder tokens and place them face down on the matching cards.
- Each player will need a set of dice in their chosen color.
- Roll the dice to determine the first player. Once the first player has taken their turn, the game continues in clockwise order.
Setting up for a game with 4 players:
How to Start a 2-Player Game
If you want to play with just two people, here’s what you need to do:
First, follow the standard set-up instructions on page 2. These instructions are meant for 3-4 players, so we need to make a couple of adjustments.
After dealing each player a facedown Ruins Card, remove 10 Ruins Cards from the deck, instead of the usual 5. Then, place only 4 Ruins Cards in the center of the table, instead of the usual 5.
My Turn in the Game
When it’s my turn to play, there are two phases I go through, and the first one is optional.
The Delver Phase
The Excavation Phase
What Happens During My Turn
After rolling or rerolling a die, or playing a card, I need to check if any Claims have been resolved.
If I roll a 1, 2, or 3 during either phase, I can take a Stone of my choice from the Ruin and add it to my tableau. But if there are no Stones on the Ruin, I have to draw a random Stone from the cloth bag and add it to my tableau.
I can never use Delver cards or Named Wonder effects to make a die result lower than 1, or higher than the highest value of that die.
In my Delver Phase, only I am allowed to play cards. No one else can play cards during the Excavation Phase.
When I roll dice and get a result that I don’t like, I can reroll them and hope for something better. And you know what? Those rerolled dice stay on the same Ruin where I originally placed them.
It doesn’t matter if someone else forced me to reroll the dice – I still get to perform the reroll myself. No one else steals my opportunity!
What Happens When We Claim Ruins
Here’s the deal: whenever we roll dice, reroll them, or play a card, we need to keep an eye on the total value of all the dice sitting on any Ruin Card. If the total value meets or exceeds the claim value of the Ruin, then it’s up for grabs.
Whoever has the highest number on a single die gets to claim the Ruin as their own. They proudly add it to their collection, keeping it face up for all to see.
Now, what happens to the poor souls who didn’t win the Ruin? They get compensated, of course! Each player who didn’t claim the Ruin gets to draw cards from the Delver Deck, and the number of cards they draw is equal to the number of dice they had on that Ruin. If there aren’t enough cards left in the deck, we just shuffle the discarded pile and create a new Delver Deck.
When someone successfully claims the Ruin, I have to do a couple of things. First, I need to return all the dice to their owners and put any remaining Stones back into the cloth bag. Then, I flip up a new card from the Ruins Deck and place it in the spot where the claimed card used to be. Finally, I place new Stones on the new Ruin based on the number shown in the bottom right hexagon.
The number in the bottom right hexagon is called the Claim value of the Ruin. It’s the number that the total of all the dice on the Ruin needs to meet or exceed in order for someone to claim it. If multiple players’ dice add up to the Claim value, the player with the highest value on their die gets to claim the Ruin.
Ties in Claims
When there’s a tie in resolving a claim, the die with more faces, also known as the “bigger die,” wins.
If the tied dice are the same type, like both six-sided dice, then I compare the second highest die of each player involved. If the tie isn’t broken, I continue comparing the “next highest dice” until it is.
If a player doesn’t have a second die on the Ruin, it’s assumed that their tie breaker has a value of zero.
If the tie is unbreakable, meaning there are only two opposing six-sided dice showing the same value, no one receives the Ruin Card. Instead, it goes back into the box, and every player draws a Delver Card for every die they had on that Ruin.
So here’s a scenario for you: imagine I have two dice, one red and one blue. The red die has eight sides, while the blue die has six sides. Now, let’s say we roll both of them, and on the red die, we get a 4. On the blue die, we also get a 4. But here’s the thing: the red die is considered the “bigger die” because it has more sides. So even though both dice show the same number, the red die wins the game.
Let me explain something to you. In this situation, we have two players, Red and Blue. They are both using six-sided dice, but they each have an additional eight-sided die as well. The goal is to determine who wins when there is a tie.
Imagine this scenario: Red and Blue both roll their dice, and they both get a 5. That means they have the same number on their six-sided dice. This is where the tiebreaker comes into play. Remember, Blue has an eight-sided die, which means they have the potential to roll a higher number. In this case, Blue rolls a 4 on their eight-sided die, while Red’s is showing a 4 as well.
Now, you might be wondering, who wins? Well, it’s actually Blue who takes the victory. The higher number on their eight-sided die gives them the edge in the tiebreaker. Even though Red and Blue both rolled the same number on their six-sided dice, Blue’s larger die tilted the odds in their favor.
I have an interesting fact for you! There is a special connection in the game called “The Ruin.” When The Ruin is taken out of the game, each player gets to draw a number of cards from the Delver deck that is equal to the number of dice they had on The Ruin. Pretty cool, right?
Let’s Talk about Building Wonders
Now, here’s something really exciting! Whenever a player rolls a 1, 2, or 3, they get something special. They can take a Stone from their chosen Ruin (or from the bag if there are no more Stones left on that Ruin). And guess what? They immediately get to place that Stone next to the other Stones they have already placed on their play area.
The fun doesn’t stop there. Players can use these Stones to create something truly amazing: Wonders! These Wonders are made up of hexagonal rings of Stones, with an empty space in the middle. And here’s the best part: players score points when they build Wonders!
So, let’s say all the Stones used to make a Wonder are the same color. In that case, the empty space in the middle gets filled with a randomly chosen Greater Wonder. How cool is that?
But what if the Stones have different colors? Well, then a Lesser Wonder is placed in the empty space instead.
Hey there! Did you know that in this game, the Named Wonders can replace a Greater or Lesser Wonder? Pretty cool, right? However, each Named Wonder has its own unique set of Stones needed to construct it.
No matter which Wonder you decide to build, you can arrange the Stones in any order you like within the hexagonal structure. Just remember, when you build a Greater or Lesser Wonder, you should keep the point value face down so that only you can see it.
The great thing is that you can use Stones in multiple Wonders if you want to. But here’s the thing: once you place a Stone, you can never move it again, unless some other card or game effect says otherwise.
Alright, let me break it down for you. You’ve got this game where you can build wonders, right? So, imagine you’ve already built a Greater Wonder using 6 black Stones. Now, you decide to take two of those black Stones from the Greater Wonder and use them to build a Named Wonder. Pretty cool, huh?
But here’s the tricky part. You’re not done yet. You want to add a third Wonder to the first two, but this time, it won’t have the same color of Stones as the first two. And guess what? It won’t fit into the formula for a Named Wonder. So, what do you do? You’ve got to fill that empty space with a lesser Wonder.
See, building wonders isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Sometimes, you have to get creative and improvise. And that’s all part of the fun!
When you have a Named Wonder token, you also get a card that tells you what it does and how to build it.
You keep the card in your play area and follow the instructions on it when you build the Wonder.
For example, let’s look at the Tomb of the Last Age. It gives you points based on the colors of Stone you have at the end of the game. To build it, you need to have a ring of one black Stone, one red Stone, one blue Stone, one yellow Stone, and then two Stones of any type.
How to Read Construction Formulas: If you see a white Stone icon with a question mark, it means you can use any Stone for that part of the formula. When you see connected sets of white Stones without question marks, it means you have to use different sets of colors to build the Wonder. For example:
Hey there! Let me tell you about this incredible thing called the Wonder. It’s a special creation that needs to be built using 3 Stones of one color and 3 Stones of another color.
When it comes to creating this Wonder, you’ll need to gather a total of six Stones. These Stones are what will form the foundation of the Wonder, and they must be arranged in a specific way. To construct the Wonder, you’ll need two Stones of one color, two Stones of a second color, and two Stones of a third color.
When constructing this Marvel, you’ll need to gather 3 yellow Stones and 3 additional Stones of any color.
Remember, it doesn’t matter where the Stones are placed in the ring. The formula only specifies the type of stone, not its position.
The Final Phase
Once all of the Ruins Cards have been revealed and placed in the center of the table, there will be one card remaining in the Ruins Deck: the End of Age Card, which was placed there at the start of the game.
Uncover the End of Age Card in the same manner as the next Ruin card, and carry out the instructions provided. If it’s a new Ruin, put Stones on the Ruin according to the usual rule. If it’s an Event, follow the instructions on the card. The game continues until all Ruins on the table, including those placed during the End of Age, have been claimed.
Game Over
Once all the Ruins have been collected, the game comes to a close, and it’s time to tally up the points. Here’s how the scoring works:
- Take a look at your hidden Ruins Card and earn points for each set of matching Ruins Cards you have. Each set is worth a certain number of points, which is shown below.
- On top of that, you’ll get an extra 5 points for each set of Ruins that contains one of each of the 5 colors. You can score this bonus multiple times if you have multiple sets. Also, keep in mind that Ruins can be scored within their own type or within a set that’s a mix of different types.
- In addition to the Ruins, you can also earn points for your Lesser, Greater, and (some) Named Wonders. Just check the cards or tokens to see how many points they’re worth.
- If you manage to build three or more Wonders, regardless of their type, you’ll get an extra 5 points.
The player with the highest number of points is the winner of the game.

Hey there! Let’s talk about color combinations and how they contribute to our lives. Have you ever stopped and noticed how colors can affect your mood and the way you perceive things? It’s pretty fascinating when you think about it!
So, here’s the deal. The combination of colors we choose can have a big impact on the overall feeling and message we want to convey. Certain colors have specific meanings and evoke different emotions. It’s like a secret language that we all subconsciously understand.
For example, let’s say you and I are looking at a painting with two colors that are the same. Can you guess what would come to mind? Well, it turns out that this combination of colors is worth 6 points! You might not have realized it, but those colors are sending a message. They’re saying that there’s a harmonious and balanced feeling in this artwork.
Color combinations are like a magic trick that can instantly change your perception. They have the power to make you feel calm, energized, or even nostalgic. It’s pretty cool, right?
So the next time you’re looking at a painting, a piece of clothing, or even a website, take a moment to think about the colors being used. What emotions do they evoke? How do they make you feel? It’s all part of the wonderful world of color combinations.
#image.jpg
Have you ever stopped to think about the power of colors? Colors have this amazing ability to influence our emotions and perceptions without us even realizing it. It’s fascinating how something as simple as a color can make us feel a certain way.
Think about it – when you see the color red, what comes to mind? Passion, intensity, perhaps even danger. On the other hand, the color blue might bring about feelings of calmness and serenity. Colors have a way of speaking to us on an emotional level.
But did you know that colors can also affect our cognitive abilities? Studies have shown that certain colors can enhance our memory and improve our attention span. For example, the color yellow has been shown to stimulate mental activity and promote creativity.
So, let’s take a closer look at the color blue. This color has a calming effect on the mind and body, making it perfect for creating a peaceful and relaxing environment. It’s no wonder that many people choose blue for their bedrooms or living rooms.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have the color red. This color is known for its ability to grab our attention and evoke strong emotions. It can increase our heart rate and even raise our blood pressure. That’s why you often see the color red used in warning signs or as a symbol of danger.
Now, let’s talk about the color green. This color is often associated with nature and can have a soothing effect on our minds. It’s no wonder that spending time in nature can be so refreshing and rejuvenating. Surrounding yourself with green can help reduce stress and promote overall well-being.
Colors are powerful tools that can greatly impact our mood, behavior, and cognitive abilities. They have the ability to evoke emotions and create memorable experiences. So next time you’re choosing a color for your room or trying to create a specific atmosphere, remember to think about the power of colors and how they can influence your day-to-day life.
Three of the same color: 12 points
#image.jpg
When it comes to gameplay, I think we all want to score points, right? And one way to do that is by getting four of the same color. It might sound simple, but it’s actually a pretty big deal. You see, when you manage to get four pieces of the same color in a row, whether it’s horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, you earn yourself a sweet 20 points. Trust me, that’s a decent chunk of points, and it can really give you an edge in the game.
#image.jpg
I bet you’ve played a game where you have to match things of the same color, right? Well, it turns out that there’s more to it than just winning the game. Matching colors can actually have a big impact on our brains and how we feel.
It’s pretty amazing when you think about it. Something as simple as matching colors can have a real effect on our emotions, our focus, and even our memories. When you see a group of objects that are the same color, like five red apples, your brain takes notice. It’s like a little alarm goes off inside your head that says, “Hey, pay attention to this!” That’s because our brains are wired to notice things that are different or stand out in some way.
So, what happens when we match colors? Well, it’s like a little burst of joy for our brains. When we see things that are the same color, our brain releases chemicals that make us feel good. It’s like a reward for doing something right. And that feeling of joy can have a big impact on our overall well-being.
But matching colors isn’t just about feeling good. It can also help us remember things better. When we see objects that are the same color, it’s easier for our brains to make connections and remember them. That’s why you might remember a bunch of blue things more easily than a mix of different colors. Our brains like things that are organized and make sense.
So, the next time you’re playing a game or organizing your toys, remember to match the colors. It’s not just a fun way to pass the time – it’s also a way to give your brain a little boost of happiness and help you remember things better. Plus, who doesn’t love a little burst of joy?

Hey there! Let’s talk about the importance of choosing the right color for your Ruin game. Yep, that’s right, the color of your game pieces can actually make a difference. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.
When it comes to playing Ruin, color is everything. You see, each color has a unique point value. You start the game with 1 of each color to work with. And here’s where it gets interesting: a Ruin in the color you choose gets you a whopping +5 points. Now that’s a big deal!
So, let’s think about this. If you go for a color that has a lot of Ruins on the board, well, you’re setting yourself up for some serious points. But here’s the catch – everyone else is probably thinking the same thing. So it’s a bit of a gamble, you know?
That’s why understanding the different strategies and being aware of what colors are popular among other players can give you a big advantage. It’s all about making the right call and outsmarting your opponents.
Now, I must say, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here. It all depends on the game and the other players. But that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? The thrill of trying to figure out what color will give you the edge.
So next time you’re sitting down to play Ruin, keep this color knowledge in mind. It could be the key to victory. Happy gaming!

I want to talk to you about the different ways you can score points in a game. Let’s start with one specific way:
If you manage to build 3 or more Wonders of any type, you’ll earn an extra 5 points. It’s quite the reward, isn’t it?
Now, let’s talk about what happens when there’s a tie in points.
If two or more players end up with the same number of points, we need a way to determine the ultimate winner. In this case, the player who has the most Ruins with the highest claim value will come out on top.
Let’s take a look at an example:
- Red has Ruins with Claim values of 17, 15, 9, 9, 9, 9
- Blue has Ruins with Claim values of 17, 13, 13, 13
- Green has Ruins with Claim values of 17, 15, 15
As you can see, all players have a tiebreaker with Ruins that have a claim value of 17. However, the winner will be determined by the player who has the most Ruins with a claim value of 15. In this case, Green takes the victory!
