Welcome to the Rules of the Ubongo 3D Game!
Objective:
In the Ubongo 3D Game, the goal is to be the first player to complete your 3D puzzle in the shape of a pyramid. Each puzzle consists of various pieces that must fit together to form a pyramid.
How to Play:
To begin, each player is given a puzzle board and a set of Tetris-like pieces. The game starts with a roll of the dice, which determines which puzzle each player must build. Once the puzzle is determined, the race begins!
Using the pieces in their set, players must arrange them on their puzzle board to create the specified pyramid shape. Each player can only use one hand to select and place the pieces. The first player to complete their pyramid shouts “Ubongo!” and the round ends.
Scoring:
Once a round is over, players compare their completed pyramids to the challenge card. For every correct piece in the right position, players earn points. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
Strategy:
To succeed in the Ubongo 3D Game, it’s important to plan ahead and think critically. When choosing which pieces to place, consider how they will fit together to form the pyramid. Trust in your spatial reasoning skills and try different combinations until you find the right fit.
Conclusion:
With the Ubongo 3D Game, you can challenge your mind and have fun at the same time. By following the rules, you’ll soon become a master at solving 3D puzzles. So gather your friends and prepare for an exciting adventure into the world of Ubongo!
When we play the game, we all get 9 game boards. We can choose whether to use the side with 3 shapes or 4 shapes per puzzle. It’s up to us!
Before we start, we roll the dice to see which puzzle number we’re going to play. Then, each of us takes the game pieces that go with that puzzle.
Once the timer starts, we all try to place our game pieces in a way that covers the white area and reaches a height of 2 levels. It’s a challenge for all of us!
The Components
Inside the box, you’ll find everything you need to play this exciting game:
- 36 game boards
- 40 game pieces in different shapes
- 58 gems
- 1 10-sided die
- 1 timer
- 1 cloth bag
- 1 Solution Book
- Rulebook
The Goal of the Game
I want you to be the winner! To do that, you need to complete the puzzle before the timer runs out. If you succeed, you get to randomly pick a gem from the bag. Plus, the first two players who finish get an extra gem from the display.
Remember, the player with the most valuable gemstone collection after playing 9 rounds is the ultimate winner.
Getting Started
Let’s get ready to play!
- First, I’ll separate the 36 game boards into 4 stacks of 9, making sure that each stack contains one of the 9 animal symbols. I’ll keep the order of the boards the same for each stack. If we have any leftover boards, I’ll put them back in the box.
- Next, we need to decide if we want to play with the simpler side of the game board, which has three shapes per task, or the more challenging side, which has four shapes per task. Let’s all agree on the side we want to use.
- Now, I’ll place the 40 game pieces in the middle of the table where everyone can reach them easily.
- For this game, we’ll need 9 blue sapphires and 9 brown amber gems. I’ll arrange them in two rows, with the amber row on top. These gems will be given out to the two fastest players each round, or we can put them back in the bag if we prefer.
- I’ll hand the dice to the youngest player and the timer to the oldest player.
Playing the Game
Let’s dive into the world of this game, shall we? We’re about to embark on a wild adventure through 9 exhilarating rounds.
- First, we each take one player board from our stack. Make sure we all have the same animal facing up. Then, the youngest player rolls the die to select the puzzle for this round.
- Next, let’s look at the number rolled on the die. We need to choose the shapes that are right next to that number. The white spaces we’ll use for the puzzle are in the same section of our player board as the die roll (either upper or lower).
- Now that we’ve picked our shapes, let’s flip the timer over and start the round.
- At the same time, we each use our shapes to cover the white spaces. We have to be careful to make sure our shapes are exactly two levels high and fit perfectly within the white spaces. None of our shapes should go outside the white spaces or be taller than two levels.
Hey there, let’s talk about a cool game called Ubongo! It’s a fun brain teaser that involves solving puzzles against the clock. The goal of the game is to be the first player to solve your puzzle correctly, but there are also rewards for being fast even if you’re not the winner.
Here’s how it works: each player has their own puzzle to solve. When the timer starts, everyone dives into their puzzles, trying to figure out the correct solution. The puzzles are made up of different shapes that need to be arranged in a specific way. It’s like solving a jigsaw puzzle, but with some twists.
If you manage to solve the puzzle before the timer runs out, you should yell “Ubongo!” to let the other players know. Even if you don’t solve it in time, keep trying until someone does. As they say, “practice makes perfect!”
Reward
Now, let’s talk about the rewards. The player who solves their puzzle first gets to take 1 blue sapphire from the display. But that’s not all! They also get to draw an additional gem randomly from a bag. It’s like getting a bonus for being quick on your feet.
The second fastest player also gets a reward. They can take 1 brown amber from the display and draw another gem from the bag. It’s not as shiny as the blue sapphire, but it’s still a nice prize!
Even if you’re not the first or second, don’t worry. The third and fourth players to solve their puzzles still get a chance to get a gem. They can reach into the bag and draw one randomly. It’s like a little surprise to brighten their day.
So, remember, in Ubongo, it’s all about using your brain power to solve puzzles before time runs out. It’s a race against the clock, but even if you’re not the winner, there are still rewards waiting for you. Are you ready to give it a try?
- 1st Player: 1 blue sapphire from display + 1 gem from the bag
- 2nd Player: 1 brown amber from display + 1 gem from the bag
- 3rd Player: 1 gem randomly from the bag
- 4th Player: 1 gem randomly from the bag
Note: If only one player manages to solve their puzzle, we will remove one brown gem from the display and return it to the bag.
If no one solves their puzzle before the timer ends, we move on to a Second Chance round:
In case the timer expires and no one has figured out the puzzle, we enter a second chance round. The timer is reset, giving the players another chance to crack the puzzle.
In the second chance round, only the first player to solve the puzzle will be rewarded. They get to draw one gem randomly from the bag. Once this happens, the round ends immediately and the other players don’t receive any rewards.
We will remove one blue and one brown gem from the display and put them back into the bag. These gems will not be awarded.
End of the Round
After the round is over, the players should return the game pieces they used to the center of the table and place the player boards back in the box.
Hey there! Let’s dive into the next round of this exciting game. We all grab a fresh player board from our pile, making sure we have the same animal. To add some thrill, the youngest player gets to roll the die, and the outcome determines the puzzle we’ll be solving this time.
Wrapping it up
The game wraps up nicely after 9 rounds or when all the gems in the display are gone. It’s time to tally up the values of our gems. (See the chart below for guidance.)
And here comes the final moment of truth… The player with the most points is crowned as the ultimate champ. Congratulations in advance, and let the celebration begin!
If multiple players have the same highest total score, we move on to the tiebreaker round. This round is only played by the players who are tied for first place. Unlike the previous rounds, there is no time limit in the tiebreaker. The first player to solve the puzzle in the tiebreaker becomes the winner.
