Welcome to the Tyrant And Day Counter!

Hey there! Let’s get started on our epic game by selecting a Tyrant. You can either choose one based on how long you want the game to be or pick one at random. Take a peek at both sides of the Tyrant Card so you can familiarize yourself with its Skills and the effects of the Tyrant Die. Awesome, right? The game can last anywhere between 1 to 4 hours, depending on the Tyrant you choose and the number of Gearlocs playing.

To set up, place the Tyrant’s Card, Chip, and Die to the left side of your Battle Mat. Just below your Tyrant Card, you’ll find the Day Counter Card and Chip. The Chip should be set to 1 to begin with.

Let’s Encounter Some Action!

Now it’s time to dive into some exciting encounters! Look for any Tyrant Encounters, marked in blue, that are associated with the Tyrant you chose. You’ll find 1 to 3 cards labeled with the Tyrant’s name at the bottom. Set these cards aside for now and keep them handy. As for the other Tyrant Cards, just place them back in the game box.

Hey there! Let’s get started by shuffling the General Encounter Deck, also known as the green deck. If you’re playing solo, make sure to use the Solo Encounter Deck, which is labeled “Solo” at the bottom. Draw Encounter Cards equal to the number shown on your Tyrant Card, but don’t forget to subtract 3 cards.

Now, mix these Encounter Cards with the Tyrant Encounter Card(s) that you set aside. Once they’re all shuffled together, place them on the left side of the Battle Mat with the story side facing up. You’ll notice that some Encounter Cards are left over. Just put them back in the game box. And don’t worry, if you ever run out of Encounter Cards, you can always replenish your deck from the box.

Awesome! We’re almost ready to dive in. Just one more thing to do. Look for Special Encounters 001-003 and place them on top of your newly created Encounter Deck in the correct order. Remember to keep the other Special Encounters accessible, as you might need them later on. You can store them neatly in the game box.

Loot & Trove Loot

First things first, let’s get everything set up for our epic adventure. You and I are going to shuffle all the Loot and Trove Loot cards. Make sure to place both decks to the right of our Battle Mat with the chest side facing up. Oh, and don’t forget to grab the 4 Lockpicking Dice and keep them close by.

Enemies

Using the Baddie Type icons () shown on my Tyrant Card, I need to find all the baddies of these types. After flipping them face down, I shuffle them and create three stacks: 1Pt, 5Pt, and 20Pt Baddie “Active Stacks”. I place these stacks above the Battle Mat. Any extra Baddie Chips go back in the game box, but sometimes I might need them for a specific Encounter. If I ever run out of Baddies in an Active Stack, I simply reshuffle the defeated ones.

To the right of my Baddie Active Stacks, I place a few stacks of 8-10 Health Chips, as shown in the illustrations.

Now, let’s talk about Gearlocs. Each player gets to choose a Gearloc. I pick my favorite and place their selected Gearloc Mat, Gearloc Chip (with the starting health chips underneath it), Initiative Die, and Stat Dice onto the playing area. I can adjust the placement of the mat according to my preference, taking into account the size of our party.

So, you’re ready to find your Gearloc’s 16 Skill Dice! They’re an essential part of the game, and I’ll guide you on where to place them for easy access.

First things first, make sure you have a Storage Tray near your Gearloc Mat. This is where we’ll keep your Skill Dice to keep things organized. Oh, and if you have some spare trays lying around, you can use them to store your Attack and Defense Dice too!

Hey there! Let me walk you through getting started with your Gearloc Reference Sheet. It’s super important to understand how to use your Skills effectively, so I’ll show you how to identify them. Just look for any Skills with a circle () next to their name on your reference sheet. These are the Skills your Gearloc already has!

Now, on your Gearloc Mat, you’ll find spots where you can place the Skill Dice that correspond to those Skills. Take the Skill Dice with the matching numbers and put them in the slots on your mat. These dice are pretty cool because the side facing up on your mat is what matters. So, usually, you’ll start them with the “0” side showing, if you can.

Now, let’s gather some other components you’ll need to play the game.

Get yourself some Attack Dice (around 6-10 should do), Defense Dice (grab about 10-12), and Effect Dice (you’ll want 2-4 of each type). Place them below your Battle Mat. Oh, and don’t forget to include the black D6 die in this area too.

Next, take the 4 Lane Marker Chips and place them above your Battle Mat, just like it shows. Do the same for the 4 Baddie Initiative Dice. Lastly, put the Round Counter Die at the top of the Initiative Meter on the Battle Mat, set to R1.

The Baddies

The Baddies are the enemies you’ll come across on your adventure. Each Baddie has its own unique characteristics and abilities.

1. Health Points (HP)

HP represents the amount of health a Baddie has. You can see how much HP a Baddie has by looking at the number of Health Chips placed beneath it on the Battle Mat.

2. Initiative

The Initiative determines where a Baddie starts on the Ini Meter. The Baddie Initiative Die is used to determine this.

3. Attack Style

Melee Baddies (How to play Too Many Bones Official Rules UltraFoodMess) can only attack units that are adjacent to them, not diagonal. If there are no adjacent units, they cannot attack during that turn. Ranged Baddies (How to play Too Many Bones Official Rules UltraFoodMess), on the other hand, can attack any unit, regardless of its position on the mat.

8. Skills That Activate When a Baddie Rolls High

In the game, certain skills can activate if a Baddie rolls a high number on its Attack and Defense Dice. These skills are marked in blue with an icon. To trigger a skill, the Baddie must exceed the threshold number shown on its Baddie chip. The threshold is determined by adding up the numbers rolled on all the Baddie’s Attack and Defense Dice during its turn.

When I’m playing Too Many Bones, one of the things I have to keep in mind is that rolled dice don’t carry over to the next turn. That means I need to make the most out of the dice I have for the current turn.

9. Target(s)

The target determines which unit or units the Baddie is going after. For Melee Baddies, they always go after the unit that is closest to them. And for Ranged Baddies, they don’t move, they just attack their target from a distance.

When you’re battling against Baddies, you’ll notice that some of them can attack multiple targets. These Baddies are indicated by a number [#] in their icon. However, they won’t attack the same target more than once in a single turn. Instead, they’ll go after the weakest target which is usually your opposing unit.

In some games, you can move your characters in any direction, including diagonally. Every day on our journey, we face encounters – situations that test us and require our decision-making skills. To start our day, we draw an Encounter Card and read it aloud to understand the situation we’ll encounter.

The front of the card describes the situation we’ll face. Then, we turn it over to see our choices and their consequences (you can take your time to read and discuss the card).

We must choose one of the options presented. Our choice can lead to a peaceful resolution, with no need for a battle How to play Too Many Bones Official Rules UltraFoodMess, or it can result in a battle How to play Too Many Bones Official Rules UltraFoodMess. Either way, we have to successfully navigate the encounter to earn our rewards, which may include Progress Points, Loot, and Training Points.

Remember, even peaceful outcomes may have certain requirements that need to be met. Make sure to read the card carefully.

Some choices you make will have rewards listed after the choice is made. But don’t worry, any rewards you earn for successfully completing either choice will be clearly indicated at the bottom of the card.

A battle is considered successful if at least one Gearloc is still standing after all the Baddies are defeated. If you meet this condition, place all surviving Gearlocs back on their Gearloc Mat Prep Area, along with their remaining HP. If any Gearlocs are knocked out during the battle, just place their Gearloc chips back on their Prep Area. At this point, you can move on to the Reward Phase and see what goodies await you.

When you have an unsuccessful Encounter, whether it’s a peaceful interaction or a battle, you won’t receive any rewards. Instead, you’ll have to move into the Recovery Phase right away. If it was a battle, you’ll need to clear the Battle Mat and place any knocked-out Gearlocs back on their Gearloc Mat Prep Area. Any Baddies that were undefeated should be placed face down at the bottom of their corresponding Active Stacks.

Once an Encounter is finished, you’ll usually discard it, unless it specifically says otherwise. However, if you earn a Progress Point reward, you’ll need to stack that card with the point showing underneath your Tyrant Card.

There are three different types of Encounters in TMB:

1. Special Encounters: These are only used during the game setup or when instructed by another Encounter.

2. Tyrant Encounters: These are added to the Encounter Deck based on the Tyrant you are facing.

Hey there! Let’s talk about Regular Encounters in the awesome game called Too Many Bones. They come in two sets: General and Solo Encounters. You can easily tell which set a card belongs to by looking at the bottom of the front side. If it says “Solo,” then it’s for when you’re adventuring with just one Gearloc. Now, as you play the game and unlock Trove Loot, you get to keep track of the locks you’ve solved. How do you do that? Well, you connect the pipes on your Gearloc mat! It’s like a little puzzle game within the game. So, when you connect one pipe, it means you’ve solved one of the three locks. Keep connecting pipes as you solve more locks. And when you’ve solved all three locks, guess what? Success!! You get to flip it over and see what’s inside!

Loot

Getting some Loot is crucial if you want to have a chance at taking down a Tyrant. Along the way, you might even stumble upon Trove Loot if luck is on your side. Let me tell you a bit more about both:

    You can only have up to 4 Loot & Trove Loot per Gearloc at a time. If you draw a 5th card or more, choose 4 to keep and discard the rest. When you use a Loot card that has multiple uses, turn the card to show that it has been used. Make sure to start with the highest number. Once you have fully used a Loot card, discard it. During battle, unless specified otherwise, you can only use Loot & Trove Loot on your turn. Keep Trove Loot with the “chest” side up until you successfully open it through Lockpicking Attempts. Trove Loot takes up a space in your loot inventory regardless of whether it is opened or not. Some Loot cards have a Heavy trait, which means they count as 3 Loot cards. And some have a Permanent trait, which means you don’t discard them after use.

    I’ve got some excellent suggestions for you to improve your backup plan! Firstly, there are some backup plan extensions that you should consider. These extensions provide additional BP Skills that you can utilize during your turn. They are just like using your Backup Plan. Cool, right?
