Hello there! I’m part of the Time Repair Agency (TRA) security division. My job is to catch the Time Breaker, who’s been messing with history. It’s a big no-no, you see.
The tricky thing is, we don’t have a real picture of the culprit. So, we’re using a cube as a stand-in. The faster we grab this Time Breaker, the less damage they can do to the Time-Space Continuum.
If we manage to nab this dangerous criminal, there’s a bonus and a shot at a promotion for the lucky hero. So, hop in your Time Machines, everyone!
Components
- There are 56 cards.

Setup
- To start the game, you need to arrange the tiles in a 5×5 grid with the white side facing up. The special TRA tile goes in the center. The other tiles can be placed randomly, so each game is unique. Make sure all the tiles face the same direction.
- The Time Breaker, or cube, starts on the tile in the upper left corner of the grid.
- Each player chooses a game piece to represent themselves and puts it on the TRA tile.
- Shuffle the deck and give each player 3 cards. You can either follow the green arrow on the cards or let another card determine which player goes first.
Objective

How to Play
It’s your turn, you’ll get a new card and then you can do one of three things: Play, Follow, or Wormhole.
Get a Card: Start your turn by grabbing a brand new card.
Take Your Move: Choose one of these choices:
- Play a Card: Pick a card from your hand and play it.
- Follow an Arrow: Use the green arrow beneath your game piece to know where to move it.
- Wormhole: Grab another card and play it right away.
Types of Cards
Moving Cards

Breaker
When you come across these cards, you’ll see that they represent actions done by the Time Breaker. However, they work just like Action cards. Just follow the instructions on the card. There are three types of Breakers:
- Crash a Gate: Get rid of a gate tile that’s not the one under the Time Breaker (you can find more details below).
- On the Move: Move the Time Breaker to another tile.
- Shut and Run: Remove the tile under the Time Breaker and move the Time Breaker to a tile nearby.
Stop Time
When it’s not your turn, you can use these cards to nullify another player’s card play. Stop Time cards are pretty handy, but they can only cancel a card’s functionality, they can’t stop someone from following an arrow.
Believe it or not, a Stop Time card can actually cancel another Stop Time card. So if you happen to draw a Stop Time during a Wormhole or Quantum Leap action, just show it to everyone and add it to your hand.
Crashing Gates
If a Breaker card tells you to “crash” a gate, all you have to do is remove the tile from the grid and place it to the side with the other crashed tiles, making sure to keep the closed side facing up.
When the tile is removed, it creates a gap in the grid. These gaps can be skipped over when playing a Move card. If any player’s piece is on the tile when it crashes, that piece is sent back to the TRA tile.
Entering a Closed Gate
When you follow a green arrow or play a Jump card, and end up at a closed gate, your piece will be placed on the TRA tile. This is a handy way to bring in the Time Breaker! Just remember, you can’t use a Move card to enter a closed gate.
Move cards always let you move in one of the indicated directions. If your piece would go off the edge of the board, it will “wrap around” and land on the other side of the grid.
You can also move over any gaps that appear after the Time Breaker starts crashing gates. You’ll land on the tile on the other side of the gap.
If your piece lands on the same tile as the Time Breaker, you can arrest them. Just make sure to say out loud that they are under arrest!
So, let’s say you’ve completed that step. Well, guess what? Those Time Breakers will come right along with you wherever you go in your piece. It’s actually a good idea to announce this right when you land on the Time Breaker, but as long as you mention it before you try to move again, they will go with you.
If I land on the same space as another player, I can declare that the Time Breaker is under arrest. And here’s the interesting part: regardless of who arrested them first, the Time Breaker will move with me if I leave the space first.
Arresting the Time Breaker is a free action, so I can do it at any time without using a turn.
Moving vs. Being Moved
If I have the Time Breaker under arrest, they will move with me whenever I move my piece. However, if another player causes my piece to move, the Time Breaker will stay where it is.
Here’s an example: let’s say someone plays Return to HQ and chooses me as the player to move. Even if I have the Time Breaker in custody, they can still choose me. This represents the Time Breaker making a daring escape while I’m too busy being pulled through time unexpectedly.
If you have the Time Breaker with you and you use the Return to HQ card, you can win. However, if someone else plays that card, only your game piece will be moved to the TRA tile.
Think of it like this: you’re called back to the office at the worst possible moment. Maybe it’s for something trivial, like a co-worker interrupting you to announce, “There’s cake in the break room!”
Dumpin’ Jumps
So, if ya got a Jump card that’s been crashed for a whole year, ya got the option to chuck it away durin’ yer turn and draw a new one. Ain’t gonna cost ya nothin’ and it don’t count as yer turn. Ya only get to do this dumpin’ once per turn, but hey, ya can dump more than one at a time, if ya wanna.
Now, pay attention ’cause this part’s important. If ya Jump to a closed gate, it’s like hittin’ a rewind button. Ya can easily get back to the TRA, so ya might consider hangin’ on to one of these cards, ya know, for emergencies.
Time Stops Tickin’
Alright, hold up! If someone decides to mess with ya and cancels yer card playin’ with a Stop Time, yer turn is over, just like that. The card ya were gonna use goes straight to the discard pile, and ya ain’t gettin’ no second chances.
Oh, and listen to this. Let’s say ya played On the Move and some sneaky feller decides to cancel it with a Stop Time. Now, if ya had another Move or Jump card that was gonna control where the Time Breaker goes, don’t fret. Ya only gotta throw away the On the Move card itself, not the other one. Ain’t that a relief?
If you’re playing Quantum Leap, I have a trick up my sleeve that can completely halt the action – all it takes is a Stop Time card. When I play that card, everything comes to a standstill. But, here’s the catch: if I want to wait until you reveal another card, I have to be patient and let you show me both of the cards you intend to play. Once you’ve made your decision on which card to play first, I have the power to cancel that one card. Unfortunately, I can’t cancel both cards, unless I happen to have two Stop Time cards in my possession.
Now, let’s talk about who gets to go first. The honor goes to the person who has most recently played Chrononauts. Simple as that.
Alternatively, we can mix things up a bit. We can take all the game pieces, give them a good shuffle, and have someone close their eyes and pick one at random. That person will be the first player, and then we continue playing in a clockwise direction.
Lastly, there’s something to keep in mind. While we’re having a blast playing Quantum Leap, there isn’t really a winner in this game. It’s all about the journey and the fun we have along the way.
If someone causes the Time Breaker to move to the TRA tile unaccompanied, it means they turned themselves in, so no one gets credit for making the arrest, and thus nobody wins. This is true even if the Time Breaker and a player’s piece both return to the TRA at the same time, but not together.
For example, if the Time Breaker is on a tile adjacent to the TRA, and someone plays Shut and Run, they could choose to move the Time Breaker to the TRA.
Since all players on the crashed gate are bounced back to the TRA space, a player who had the Time Breaker in custody will be moved to the TRA tile just after the Time Breaker arrives. Such a player gets back to HQ just in time to watch as the Time Breaker surrenders.
End of the Game
If your piece moves to the TRA tile with the Time Breaker in tow, you win!
