The Builders: Middle Ages Game Rules

Welcome to The Builders: Middle Ages! Here’s everything you need to know to start playing and enjoy this exciting game.

Goal of the Game

The goal of The Builders: Middle Ages is to become the most successful builder in the kingdom by completing the greatest number of prestigious buildings.

Setting Up the Game

To set up the game, each player is given a player board, which they place in front of them. You will also need to set up the main board and the draw deck. Shuffle the building cards and place them face down to form the draw deck. Then, lay out six cards face up next to the draw deck, forming the construction site.

Taking Turns

The game is played over four rounds, with each round consisting of several turns. On your turn, you can choose to either recruit a worker or take a construction card.

Recruiting a Worker

When you choose to recruit a worker, you pay the corresponding fee displayed on the worker card, and then place it on your player board. Workers will give you special abilities and allow you to take certain actions during the game.

Taking a Construction Card

If you choose to take a construction card, you select one from the construction site. The cost of the card is on the left side, and the reward for completing the building is on the right side. You must pay the cost in order to take the card. Once you have taken the card, you can either start construction on it or add it to your discard pile to be built later.

Constructing a Building

When you start construction on a building, you must place it face down in front of you. Each building requires a certain combination of workers and resources to complete. You may need to hire additional workers or acquire resources from the construction site or the draw pile. Once you have all the necessary requirements, you can flip the building face up and place it in your point scoring area.

End of the Game

The game ends after the fourth round, and the player with the highest total score wins! Your score is calculated based on the value of completed buildings and any additional points from worker abilities or special cards.

Remember, becoming a successful builder in The Builders: Middle Ages requires strategy and careful planning. So, choose your actions wisely and use your resources efficiently to construct the most impressive buildings in the kingdom. Good luck!

    • 1st, you’ll earn Coins when the Building is finished.
    • 2nd, you’ll earn Victory Points when the Building is finished.
    • 3rd, you’ll need a certain number of Stone Resources.
    • 4th, you’ll need a certain number of Wood Resources.
    • 5th, you’ll need a certain number of Knowledge Resources.
    • 6th, you’ll need a certain number of Tile Resources.
  • Setting Up

    1. Start by shuffling the Building cards and placing the deck with the Construction side facing up at one end of the table. Take the top five cards and line them up next to the deck.

    2. Separate the Apprentice Workers from the rest of the Worker cards. Randomly give one Apprentice to each player. Any leftover Apprentices should be returned to the Worker deck and shuffled.

    3. Place the Worker deck beside the Building deck. Turn over the top five cards and place them in a line below the line of Buildings.

Alright, let’s get started with this task! Here’s what we need to do:

    1. Gather some coins and place them in the middle of the table. We’ll call this the “bank”.

    2. Each player will receive 10 coins. They will get 1 gold coin and 5 silver coins.

    3. Now, it’s time to determine who goes first. Randomly choose a player to be the first player. That player gets the First Player card and puts it in front of them.

Great! We’ve completed these steps. Now we can move on to the next part of our game.

    How to Play the Game

Hey there! Let’s dive into this exciting game and learn how to play. It’s all about taking turns and making strategic moves. Each player gets a chance to play, starting with the First Player and passing to the left. When it’s your turn, you can take three actions. And if you want to do more, you can pay 5 Coins for each additional action.

Now, let’s see what you can do with these actions:

    1. Start Construction: Get a Building card and fill the empty space in the line.
    2. Recruit a Worker: Add a worker to your team.
    3. Send a Worker to Work: Assign a worker to a task.
    4. Take Coins: Collect some valuable Coins.

    I. Start Construction

    Starting Construction Costs One Action.

Want to build something amazing? Choose a Building card from the line and place it in front of you. Once you do that, replace the empty space in the line with the top card from the Building deck. You can construct as many Buildings as you want in one go!

If you still have actions left, feel free to start construction again. Keep in mind that each time you start construction, it costs you one action. So, plan your moves wisely!

Imagine this: I’m playing a game and I decide to build the Chapel. I take the Chapel card and put it in front of me, with the construction side facing up.

    II. Bring in a Worker

Getting a Worker Costs One Action.

I get to choose a Worker from the five Worker cards available in the lineup and place it in front of me. Then, I immediately fill that empty space in the lineup with the top card from the Worker deck. I can recruit as many Workers as I want.

I can even repeat this action during my turn as many times as I want (as long as I have actions left).

For example: I realize that I need more Workers to finish building the Chapel. So, I decide to bring in the Craftsman. I put the Craftsman card in front of me, along with my other Workers.

III. Put a Worker to Work

Sending a Worker to Work Requires Some Actions.

When I’m playing this game, I can place one of my Workers next to one of my Buildings that’s currently being built. It’s important to make sure that the Resources my Worker produces match the requirements of the Building. To do this, I have to pay the number of Coins mentioned on the Worker card to the bank.

Once I send a Worker to work on a Building, they can’t move until the Building is finished.

Every time I add a new Worker to a Building, I just make sure to align its Resources with the other Workers already there. It’s that simple!

    Worker Action Costs:

When you send just one Worker to a building, you’ll use up one action, regardless of how many Workers are already there.

If you send a second Worker to the same building in the same turn, it will cost you two extra actions, bringing the total to three.

Sending a third Worker to the same building in the same turn will cost you three additional actions, for a total of six!

And the pattern repeats for each additional Worker.

However, if you send another worker to a different Building, it will only cost you one action for that worker.

    IV. Take Coins

Taking Coins Comes at a Variable Action Cost.

You have the option to spend your actions on taking Coins from the bank:

For just one action, you can take one Coin.

Alternatively, you can spend two actions to take three Coins.

Completing a Building: A Guide to Victory

Hey, did you know that finishing a building is a crucial part of the game? It’s true! Let’s talk about how you can achieve this important milestone and earn yourself some victory points.

    What You Need to Know

Before we dive into the details, let’s go over a few key points. Firstly, you can take six Coins for three actions. Keep this in mind as you plan your moves.

Remember, at the end of the game, you’ll earn 1 victory point for every 10 Coins that your buildings are worth. So, the more buildings you complete, the more points you’ll rack up.

    Completing a Building

When you send a worker to work on a building, something magical happens. If the total resources of all the workers you’ve added to that building meet or exceed the building’s requirements, congrats! The building is complete.

Now, let’s break it down further:

    Step 1: Workers Return

The workers you assigned to the building return to your team. Make sure to keep them with your other workers. They deserve a little rest after a job well done!

    Step 2: Receive Your Pay

It’s payday! You earn the number of Coins shown on the building card from the bank. Cha-ching! Make it rain!

Once you’ve collected your hard-earned cash, flip the building card over and set it to the side. This will help you keep track of your completed buildings and victory points.

    Putting It All Together

So, by completing buildings, you not only progress in the game but also earn victory points. Remember, the more points you have, the closer you are to victory!

Now that you know the ins and outs of completing a building, it’s time to put your skills to the test. Good luck, and may your buildings be ever grand!

When I send my Craftsman to the Chapel for 4 Coins, I have completed the Building! The Chapel needs 3 Stone, 2 Wood, 2 Knowledge, and 3 Tile. By adding the Craftsman, I bring the 1 Knowledge and 3 Tiles that were missing, making the Chapel complete.

I earn the 18 Coins listed on the Chapel, then flip it over and add it to my completed Building pile to score 5 victory points. All of my Workers return to my team in front of me on the table.

    Machines

Machines are a special type of Building that I can construct. When I finish building a Machine, it’s treated like a Worker that doesn’t require any payment for its work (the cost in Coins to send a Machine to work is zero).

A Machine is like a regular Building, but with a twist. When you finish building a Machine, it doesn’t just sit on the side like other buildings. Instead, it becomes part of your team of workers once you flip it over.

    The End of the Game

The game comes to an end if you have 17 or more victory points at the conclusion of your turn. Remember, only count the points you earned from Buildings and Machines, not the Coins.

If some players haven’t had a turn in the last round, each of them gets one final turn. This way, all players will have the same number of turns, with the last player to go being the one to the right of the First Player.

Hey there! Let me break it down for you. If the First Player manages to earn a whopping 17 victory points on their turn, don’t worry, everyone else still gets a final chance to play their turn. But here’s the twist: If it’s actually the last player who triggers the end of the game, then the game ends right after their turn wraps up!

Once all the players have finished their last turns, it’s time to do some math. Each player needs to tally up the victory points they’ve earned from their completed Buildings and Machines. And here’s a tip: for every 10 Coins of value that you still have in your possession, you add 1 victory point to your total.

So here’s the deal: if you wanna be the top dog in the kingdom, you gotta rack up them victory points. The person with the most of these bad boys is gonna be crowned the Master Builder and take home the glory. It’s all about those points, baby!
