Connection pieces, on the other hand, are small plastic pegs that you’ll use to connect your Tetriminos and secure them in place on the board.
Okay, now that we know our playing pieces, let’s talk about the goal of the game. The objective is to create lines of connected squares, just like in the classic game of Tetris. However, in Tetris Link, your focus is not just on creating lines, but also on forming color groups.
Each Tetrimino has a color, and your aim is to connect squares of the same color. The more squares you connect, the higher your score. So, you’ll want to strategically place your Tetriminos to maximize the number of color groups you can create. It’s all about planning and making the right moves!
Playing Tetris Link is simple. On your turn, you can do one of two things: place a Tetrimino on the board or place a connection piece to connect your Tetriminos. You’ll keep alternating turns with your opponent until all the spaces on the board are filled.

In this game, you need to link Tetriminos of the same color in groups of three or more to earn points. It’s all about strategy and quick thinking.
How to Play
The goal is to create as many links as possible before the tower is full. To do this, you must place your Tetriminos strategically on the game board. You can move and rotate them to find the best positions.
When you successfully link three or more Tetriminos of the same color, they will disappear, and you will earn points. But be careful! Your opponents are also trying to make links, so you need to block their Tetriminos from connecting.
The game continues until the tower is completely filled. At the end, the player with the highest score is declared the winner. So, make every move count!
Before we start playing the game tower, let’s make sure we attach the feet to its base. You can remove the feet later when you want to store it back in the box. And don’t forget to keep all the packaging for future use and reference.
Now, it’s time to choose our colors! Each player can pick a color and grab all the Tetriminos in that color. You’ll have 25 Tetriminos of each shape, with 5 pieces of each shape.
The playing die is a special dice that has different Tetrimino shapes and the TETRIS LINK logo on each side. Before each turn, we need to roll the die to see which Tetrimino we have to play next.
Once the Tetrimino is rolled, you’ll need to drop it into the tower to play it. The Tetrimino that you rolled is the one that you must play on your turn.
Finally, let’s determine who goes first. The player who rolls TETRIS LINK on the die gets the honor of playing first.

I can drop my Tetrimino into the tower in any direction and any available space. But watch out! If I leave a gap underneath, I’ll lose a point.
How to Play the Game
- When you play the game, you have to use the Tetrimino that is rolled, even if it will create an empty space beneath the Tetrimino.
Making Connections
To earn points in the game, you need to connect your Tetriminos by making groups of 3 or more pieces. You can connect them in any direction, except diagonally. If you can’t connect to your own color group, you can drop a Tetrimino in a different part of the tower. On your next turn, you can build off of either group. Once you have a group with 3 linked Tetriminos, you’ll earn points.
It’s also important to block your opponents from scoring points. You can do this by dropping Tetriminos around their pieces, preventing them from linking and earning points. Think strategically about how you can connect your own Tetriminos while also blocking your opponents. Good luck!
When I play Tetris, I’ve noticed that if my blocks get stuck and I can’t move them anymore, I can’t earn any more points with those pieces. That means I have to start a new group of blocks to start scoring again. It’s important to connect three blocks to start earning points.

When I connect 3 Tetriminos, I earn 3 points. That’s 1 point for each Tetrimino in the group.
If you only have 1 Tetrimino or a group of 2, you won’t earn any points. You need at least 2 other Tetriminos of the same color linked to earn points.
Once I’ve connected 3 Tetriminos, each additional Tetrimino I link to the existing group of 3 is worth an extra point.
Grouping Tetriminos Together
When I link two groups of 1-2 Tetriminos into a single group, I get a point for each Tetrimino that becomes part of the new group with 3 or more pieces.
However, I don’t earn any points for Tetriminos that I have already included in my score.
Losing Points in Tetris
Hey there! Did you know that in Tetris, you can actually lose points? It’s true! Let me explain how it works.
- If you leave just one empty space right under your falling Tetrimino, you’ll lose one point. Ouch!
- But it gets worse. If you leave two or more empty spaces beneath your Tetrimino, you’ll lose a whopping two points. That’s a bummer! But don’t worry, you’ll never lose more than two points in a single turn. Phew!
Oh, and here’s a pro-tip: if you start the game and your first Tetrimino is the S or Z shape, you’ll actually begin with a negative point. Yikes!
Earning Points: Good and Bad
When I clear out an empty space while also linking 2 or more Tetriminos of the same color, something interesting happens – I gain and lose points at the same time.
Keeping Score
To keep track of my points, I use these markers on the tower. One marker is for my Tetriminos on the left, and the other is for those on the right. I slide them up and down to show my score.
Every time I gain or lose points, I need to move my marker to the right number so that it matches my new score. It helps me stay updated on how well I’m doing!
Have you noticed the small recessed circles on each Tetrimino? They’re actually quite important! You can determine your score by counting the circles in your Tetriminos. Keep in mind that only Tetriminos connected to 2 or more other Tetriminos of the same color are worth points.
Oh, and don’t forget to subtract points for any empty spaces!
