Rules for Playing the Telestrations After Dark Game
Hey there! Ready to have some fun? I’m going to walk you through the rules of playing the Telestrations After Dark game. It’s a game that’s all about drawing and guessing, but with a twist of some grown-up humor. So buckle up and let’s get started!
First things first, let me explain how the game works. In Telestrations After Dark, each player gets a sketchbook, marker, and a category card. The game is played in rounds, and in each round, you’ll be drawing and guessing a word or phrase related to the category.
Here’s what to do: you start by rolling the dice and selecting a word or phrase from the category card based on the number you rolled. You keep this word or phrase a secret from others. Then, you’ll have about a minute to draw that word or phrase in your sketchbook. The catch is, you have to keep it PG-13. No adult content here!
Once the time is up, you pass your sketchbook to the player on your left. They’ll look at your drawing and try to guess what it is. They write down their guess on the designated space on your sketchbook, and then they fold the page to hide it. Then, they pass it to the next player, who will see the guess and draw their interpretation of it. This continues until everyone has contributed to each sketchbook.
Now, it’s time to reveal and have a good laugh! Starting with the first sketchbook, each player takes turns unfolding the pages and showing the progression from drawing to guess to sketch. It’s hilarious to see how the original word or phrase gets transformed along the way. And remember, it’s all in good fun!
At the end of each round, players score points based on how many correct guesses were made. The game ends when all the rounds are completed, and the player with the most points wins!
Now that you know the rules, gather your friends, grab a drink (if you’re of legal drinking age, of course!), and get ready to enjoy a night of laughter and creativity. Telestrations After Dark is a game that guarantees a good time for adults looking to have some silly fun!

How to Play the Game
Let me explain how the game works. It’s really simple and fun!
1. Getting a Word
First, we need to decide on a specific number. We can all agree on a number, like 2, or we can choose any one of the six words or phrases on the card you have. Remember, if you get an underlined word, you can come up with any word for that category!
Now, here’s the important part. Once you have your word, you need to secretly write it down in your book. Don’t say it out loud or show it to anyone else!
Just a quick reminder, if you see an underlined word, you can make up your own word for that category!
2. Number of Players
Let’s talk about the number of players you need for a particular game. This is an important factor to consider because it determines whether you can play a game with just a few friends or if you need a large group to enjoy it.
When it comes to the number of players, there are games that can be played with just two people, such as chess or checkers. These games are perfect for a quiet, strategic battle between friends or family members. You don’t need a whole crowd to enjoy them. On the other hand, there are games that require a larger group of people to fully experience the excitement and competition. Party games like charades or Pictionary thrive on the energy and laughter that comes from having a big group of players.
So, before you choose a game, think about how many people will be playing. If you’re looking for an intimate experience or a quiet challenge, a game that can be played with just a few people would be a great fit. But if you want a lively, energetic atmosphere with lots of laughter and interaction, then you’ll need a game that can accommodate a larger group.
Remember, the number of players can make or break a game, so be sure to take it into account when making your decision.
Why is this important?
At the end of every round, no matter how many people are playing, you need to write down your guess instead of drawing it.
Step 3: Drawing
Now we’re all on “SKETCH IT!” page 1. Go back one page to see the word, then come back to “SKETCH IT!” page 1. Take about a minute to secretly draw the word.
After that, turn to page 2 to hide your drawing and pass the open book to the player on your left.
4. Let’s Try to Figure It Out!
Alright, now it’s time for an exciting challenge called “GUESS IT!” We’re all on page 2, so let’s get started! Before we dive in, take a quick glance at the sketch on the previous page. Keep it to yourself though, we want to make this a suspenseful journey!
Alright, let’s get started! First, go back to page 2 and make your guess. After that, flip to the next page and give the open book to the player on your left.
5. Round & Round it goes
Keep going! Keep drawing, passing, and guessing. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on the following pages until you get your own book back. Make sure everyone’s book ends with a guess.
The Exciting Moment
I can hardly contain my excitement now that we all have our own books again. It’s finally time for the big reveal! Let’s take turns flipping through the pages and sharing the wild and wacky sketches and guesses we made. Get ready for some outrageous outcomes!
Helpful Hints
Sketchin’ Hints
Forget about writing letters or numbers. Don’t leave any empty pages. Just try your best to draw the word quickly. I promise it will make the game more enjoyable!
Guessin’ Hints
Hey there! Have you ever found yourself staring at a question mark, feeling completely stumped? It happens to all of us, even the best of us! Trust me, I know the feeling. That’s why I’m here to tell you about a little something called creative guessing. It’s a superpower that we all possess, but often forget to use.
Hints for the Win!
Once you’re done sketchin’ or guessin’, flip to the next page and wait for everyone to get ready. We all pass our books around at the same time.
The Game Ends
Did you have a blast? Then, congratulations! You’re a winner!
But what about keepin’ score? If you wanna do that, there are two ways to score points.
Keepin’ Score
In this game, I will use the score sheet in the front of my book to keep track of my points. We will play three rounds, and after the third round, we will add up our points.
The player who has the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
For Friendly Scoring:
After I reveal the outcomes in my book, I will do the following:
- I will give 1 point to the player who has my favorite sketch in their book.
- I will give 1 point to the player who has my favorite guess in their book.
- If the last guess matches the secret word, I will give myself 1 point.
For Competitive Scoring:
As I reveal the outcomes in my book, we can all score points:
- If a guess matches the secret word or the previous guess, the guesser earns 1 point.
- If a sketch helps a guesser make a match, the sketcher earns 1 point.
Let’s Keep Playing!
So, here’s the deal: we’re gonna keep playing this awesome word game and see if you can guess my secret word. Remember, you have up to 8 tries to crack the code and find out what it is. After each guess you make, I’m gonna give you a point if you’re getting close. And if, by some miracle, you manage to guess the word right on the nose, you’ll get a whopping 10 points! Are you ready for the challenge?
- Make a guess.
- I’ll give you a hint: give yourself 1 point if the last guess matches your secret word.
Want Another Round?
Of course you do! Firstly, let’s get rid of any evidence by erasing pages 1 through 8. Put aside the used cards and give everyone a fresh one for more excitement and laughter. To spice things up, you can even change the passing direction!
Feeling Adventurous?
If you want to take it to the next level, switch seats for the next round or try passing the book in reverse. You can even come up with your own words and phrases (things might get wild!) or how about this: draw with your non-dominant hand! The possibilities are endless. Let’s unleash our creativity!
