Stratego Junior Game Rules
Hey there! Are you ready to become a master strategist? Well, get ready for some excitement, because I’m about to introduce you to the amazing world of Stratego Junior. It’s a game that will challenge your mind and keep you on your toes!
In this game, you’ll be using your wits to outsmart your opponent and capture their flag. But before we dive into the battlefield, let’s go over the rules to make sure you’re well-prepared.
First things first, let’s assemble our armies. Each player will have an army of 10 pieces, all represented by cute and colorful characters. These characters have different ranks, and the higher the rank, the stronger the character.
Now, let’s talk about how to play. The objective of the game is simple: capture your opponent’s flag. But be careful, because they’ll be trying to do the same thing to you!
You’ll take turns moving your pieces, one at a time. You can move your pieces vertically or horizontally, but not diagonally. And here’s the catch – you can only see the rank of your opponent’s piece when you attack it. So, you’ll need to use your memory and deduction skills to figure out which pieces are the strongest.
When you attack an opponent’s piece, the higher-ranking piece wins and the lower-ranking piece is removed from the game. But watch out for bombs! If you attack a bomb, your piece is taken out instead. It’s like a game of hide and seek!
Now, let’s talk about some special characters. The Spy is the weakest piece on the board, but it has a special power. If the Spy attacks the Marshal, the Spy wins! It’s like a spy movie twist.
You’ll also find a few other special characters, like the Flag and the Miner. The Flag is the most important piece in the game – protect it at all costs! And the Miner has a special power of defusing bombs. Pretty handy, right?
The game continues until one player captures the other player’s flag. But remember, you’ll need both strategy and luck to win this game. So, think carefully, use your memory, and make your moves!
Now that you know the rules, it’s time to gather your troops and start strategizing. Get ready for an epic battle of wits in Stratego Junior! May the best strategist win!
Do you remember all of Disney’s famous heroes like Peter Pan, Snow White, Simba, and Robin Hood? Well, imagine if they had to face off against Disney’s most infamous villains – Captain Hook, Scar, Ursula, and The Wicked Queen. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? It’s like a battle of good versus evil. Who do you think would come out on top?

- Instructions
The First Time I Play:
Let’s start by carefully attaching the 19 blue illustrations to the blue castles. Find the pictures of the Treasure Chest, The Genie, and the Dalmatian on the blue background. Slide each of these into one of the three big blue castles.
Now, take the remaining 16 blue pictures and slide them into the 16 small castles. Make sure you’re careful and don’t end up with any characters upside down in their castle!
Once you’ve finished building the blue castles, it’s time to move on to the red ones. Now, keep your eyes peeled for the Treasure Chest, Cruella De VII, and the Hyena on the red background. These three elements belong in the large red castles.
Take the remaining 16 red pictures and make sure they’re facing the right way. Then, carefully place them into the small red castles that are still empty.
The Game’s Goal
The objective of the game remains the same for both Stratego Quest and Stratego Triumph: I win by being the first player to reach the last row and capture my opponent’s Treasure Chest.
Stratego Quest
(for Players 4 Years And Up)
Setting Up
Let’s determine who will play with the red pieces and who will play with the blue pieces. We’ll open the game board, making sure the red side is closest to the red player and the blue side is closest to the blue player.
Now, in secret, we’ll arrange our castle pieces in the following manner: You’ll place your three big castles on the three castle towers shown on your side of the board. You have the freedom to choose which piece goes on each of the three towers.
If you want to play the game, start by placing your 16 small castles on the front four rows. Leave the four spaces in the middle empty. Make sure you position your castles with the picture facing you and hidden from your opponent.
Take a look at the picture on the box base to see how your board should look when you’re ready to play. You and your opponent each have a dice with pictures of your characters.
Playing the Game
When you play the game, the castles you place on the board stay right where you put them. You can’t move your castles or your opponent’s castles to different spaces.
Hey there! Let me explain how to play this cool game. So, the red player gets to go first. When it’s your turn, you gotta roll the dice that has your opponent’s characters on it. Exciting, right?
Now, here’s the fun part. Choose one of your opponent’s castles in the front row. Pick it up, turn it around, and have a peek at the hidden character. Careful, don’t let them see what you’re up to!
If the character you rolled on your dice matches the one you saw, you get to remove that castle piece from the board. Whoosh! It’s gone! But if it’s not the same character, you gotta put the castle piece back where you found it. Keep it fair, you know?
Here’s a little tip to help you out. Try to remember which character it was and where it was on the board. It might come in handy later, trust me! If you end up rolling that character again, you’ll be able to pick up the castle piece and remove it from the board. Now that’s a sweet reward!
Remember, you only get to roll the dice once on your turn, and you can only look at one castle piece. It’s all about strategy, my friend! The blue player is up next, and then it’s back to you. Keep taking turns and having a blast!
Alright, here’s the deal. When it’s your turn, roll the dice and aim to choose a castle that matches the character. But here’s the catch – you can’t just go for any castle on the board. You can only move the castle pieces that aren’t blocked by other castles in front of you.
At the beginning of the game, you can select any one of the four castles in your opponent’s front row. Once you remove one of these from the board, you can then reach the castle piece in the second row.
Now, here’s the thing – you don’t have to choose the castle right in front of you. It can be the one on your left or your right. Just remember, you can’t pick up diagonal pieces. As you play, try to create an open path that leads to the three big castles at the back.
So, imagine this: you’re playing a game, and suddenly, you come face-to-face with The Beast or Maleficent the dragon. Uh-oh! Your path is completely blocked, and you can’t move forward. The thing is, you won’t find these characters on the dice. Sneaky, right? Well, not only that, but once you place a castle piece with The Beast or Maleficent the dragon on the board, it’s there to stay. You can’t remove it! It’s like a secret trap that adds a twist to the game. So, when you’re setting up for your next game, make sure to find a clever spot to hide these tricky characters. Good luck!
Capturing the Treasure Chest
Once I’ve taken out any of my opponent’s castles from their back row (Row 4), I have the option to pick up and examine one of the three large castles on my next turn. It doesn’t matter where I ended up on the back row; I can select any of the three big castles (IV)*.
If I choose the Hyena or the Dalmatian, I can remove that castle from the board. Then, on my following turn, I get to choose one of the remaining two big castles. However, if I pick Cruella De Vil or The Genie, tough luck!
My opponent has the power to collect all the castles I’ve already taken off the board and place them back on! They get to decide where each castle goes.
If that happens, I have to start all over again! But if I manage to get rid of Cruella or the Genie, they’re out for good and don’t come back. And if I happen to pick the Treasure Chest, guess what? I win the game! How awesome is that?
Stratego Triumph
(for Players 6 Years And Up)
Hey there! If you’ve already played Stratego Quest, then you’re ready to level up with Stratego Triumph. It’s a game that brings you closer to the Classic Stratego rules, making it the perfect next step in your Stratego journey.
In Stratego Triumph, you’ll get to use the same pieces as in Stratego Quest, except you won’t need the dice this time. Instead, you’ll have the freedom to move your pieces around as you strategize your way to victory.
Your mission in this game is to outsmart your enemy in battle and make your way to the back row. Once you reach there, it’s time to channel your inner treasure hunter and search for the hidden Treasure Chest, just like you did in Stratego Quest. Exciting, isn’t it?
Getting started
Getting started with Stratego Triumph is easy peasy. The preparation and set up are exactly the same as in Stratego Quest. So if you’re already familiar with that, you’re good to go!
How to Play the Game
Hi there! If you’re ready to embark on a magical adventure, I’ve got some simple instructions for you on how to play this exciting game!
So, here’s the deal: you and I both have our own set of characters and castle pieces. But here’s the catch, my friend: not all characters can be moved around the game board. The Beast and Maleficent the dragon are a bit too big for that and need to stay put on the spaces where they started.
Alright, now let me tell you how your turn works. Pay attention! You can move one of your castle pieces to a space that’s right next to it. And here’s a twist – you can move forwards, backwards, or sideways, but no diagonal moves. Got it?
Now, let’s talk about attacking. Are you ready to show your opponents who’s boss? Check out those cool illustrations on your playing pieces. Notice something interesting? Each one has a number on it!
That number tells you how strong your character is in battle. We’ve got some real heavy hitters here. Peter Pan and Captain Hook are the toughest with a ‘5’. Simba and Scar are pretty strong with a ‘4’. Next, we’ve got Prince Philip and Ursula at 3, Snow White and The Wicked Queen at 2, and Kaa and Mickey at 1.
But wait, there’s an exception! The characters that occupy the big castle pieces, plus The Beast and Maleficent the dragon, don’t have a battle value. They’re too busy holding down the fort.
Hey, let’s talk about a super cool game called Castle Knockout! The goal of the game is to knock your opponent’s castles out of the game. It’s all about strategic attacks and outsmarting your opponent.
So, here’s how it works: when you’re next to one of your opponent’s castles on the game board, you can choose to attack it. But remember, it’s totally up to you.
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how battles are determined. You compare the two castles and see which one is the strongest. The castle with the lowest value loses the encounter and is removed from the game board. Bye-bye castle!
Oh, and when your attacking castle wins, it gets to move onto the space left free by the defeated castle. It’s like claiming territory!
But wait, there’s more! If both castles have the same battle value, well, sorry pal, both of them are removed from the game. It’s a tie!
And here’s a little reminder for you: you can attack a castle that’s next to you, in front of you, or even behind you. Keep your eyes on every direction!
Special Features of Certain Castles
Maleficent the Dragon and The Beast
These castles cannot budge an inch; they must stay put on the same spot where they were positioned at the start of the game. And let me tell you, they’re fierce creatures.
Notice that they don’t have a battle value. But if any piece attempts to attack them, that piece will be defeated and tossed out of the game. Maleficent the Dragon and The Beast remain rooted on the game board.
But wait! There are two exceptions: Prince Philip and Ursula. These two have astonishing magical powers. If either of them faces off against Maleficent the Dragon or The Beast, they emerge triumphant, and the creature is removed from the board.
Keep an eye on where Maleficent the Dragon and The Beast are positioned on the board, and unleash Prince Philip or Ursula to vanquish them, if you can.
Prince Philip and Ursula
Not gonna lie, they might not be the toughest warriors out there, but let me tell you something – they’re the only ones who can take down Maleficent the dragon and The Beast, all thanks to their insane magical powers (remember what I said earlier?).
Now, let’s talk about Mickey and Kaa.
These two don’t have much battle value, which means they’re most likely gonna lose in a fight. However, they have a secret weapon up their sleeves – they can actually defeat opponents with the highest battle value!
So, here’s the deal – Mickey and Kaa will definitely lose if they come face to face with any castle. BUT, they’ll emerge victoriously if they go up against Captain Hook or Peter Pan. You see, if either Mickey or Kaa attacks Captain Hook or Peter Pan (or if Captain Hook or Peter Pan attacks them), boom! Captain Hook or Peter Pan gets knocked off the board!
Oh, one more thing…
You gotta pay attention to this rule or you’re gonna get yourself into a sticky situation. Let’s say you make a move, right? And on your next turn, you try going back to the place you started from. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but on the turn after that, you can’t do the same move again. It’s like one and done, my friend.
Hey there! Let’s talk about a cool game called Castle Quest. It’s a game with castles and strategy. I’ll explain the rules to you, so don’t worry.
Moving the Castles
Okay, so let’s start with moving the castles. Imagine you have a castle and you move it to a space ahead. But here’s the thing: if you move back to the space you came from on your next turn, you can’t move that castle forward again. It’s a bit tricky, right? So, try moving in a different direction or move another piece on the board.
Reaching the Last Row
Now, let’s talk about reaching the last row. Imagine you’ve been battling for a while and you finally reach the last row of your opponent’s half of the board. On your next turn, something awesome happens – you can take on one of the big castles! If you uncover the Hyena or the Dalmatian, you get to remove that castle from the board. Pretty cool, huh?
But here’s the catch. If you uncover Cruella De Vil or The Genie, it’s not so great. Not only do they get taken off the board, but your castle piece gets removed too. Bummer! But don’t worry, you can try again. Just reach your opponent’s last row with another one of your castles and give it another shot.
Find the Treasure Chest and Win!
Now, here’s the exciting part. If you find the Treasure Chest, you’re a true hero! It means you’ve shown great bravery and skill, and you win the game! How awesome is that?
So that’s Castle Quest for you. It’s a game of strategy, tricky moves, and exciting battles. Have fun playing!
An Essential Piece of Advice:
Hey there! Let me tell you something crucial before you start playing Stratego Triumph. It’s super important to set yourself up for success right from the beginning. You see, you don’t want your opponent to quickly break through your defenses and infiltrate your back row with their strongest pieces like Peter Pan or Captain Hook.
But don’t you worry! We have a trick up our sleeve to deal with that. You can strategically place powerful characters like Maleficent the dragon, The Beast, Mickey, or Kaa to keep those pesky attackers at bay. The key is to choose the perfect spot for these heroes. Let’s get to it!
