Objective

The goal of Spirits of the Wild is to collect the most valuable sets of animal cards. There are five different animal spirit stones in the game, and each one has a corresponding deck of cards. Game Setup

Before we get started, let’s set up the game board. First, place the game board in the middle of the table. Then, shuffle the five animal card decks and place them face down next to the board. Also, make sure the spirit stone tokens are handy. Each player chooses a color and takes the spirit stone tokens of that color. Lastly, give each player two randomly drawn animal cards.

Gameplay

The game is played in turns, with each turn consisting of three phases: Dream, Gather, and Refresh.

Dream Phase

In the Dream phase, you’ll be drawing one or two animal cards from the top of any of the animal card decks. You have the freedom to choose any combination of cards from either one deck or two different decks.

Gather Phase

In the Gather phase, you can take one of the following actions:

• Draw More Cards: You can draw one animal card from any of the animal card decks. Just be careful not to exceed the hand limit of four cards.
• Play a Set: If you have three or more animal cards of the same kind, you can play them as a set. This means you get to take the corresponding spirit stone token.
• Exchange Cards: You can exchange two animal cards from your hand with two cards from any combination of decks. This can be a great way to optimize your hand for future turns.

Refresh Phase

In the Refresh phase, you’ll be preparing for the next turn. If you played any cards during your turn, simply draw cards from any of the decks to refill your hand back up to four cards. Then, it’s the next player’s turn.

Game End

The game continues until the last card is drawn from any of the animal card decks. At that point, players no longer draw cards during the Dream phase. The final round is played until all players have had an equal number of turns. After that, it’s time to count up the points!

Scoring

Scoring in Spirits of the Wild is based on the spirit stone tokens you’ve collected throughout the game. Each token has a point value, and the more tokens you have, the higher your score. Additionally, if you’ve collected all five different spirit stone tokens, you’ll receive a bonus.

For those who offer these precious stones, the animals will bestow great rewards upon them. However, beware the sly and envious Coyote, who delights in obstructing those who wish to present these treasures to the animals.

The Essential Parts

I have everything I need to prepare for the game:

– 1 bowl

– 1 coyote

– 1 cloth bag

– 2 player boards

– 56 stones (8 each in 7 colors)

– 12 action cards (6 per player)

– 6 spirit power cards

Now let’s get into the game!

The objective of the game is to use action cards to reveal colorful stones and collect them to earn points. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!

To set up the game, follow these steps.

Hey there! Let’s have some fun with this game! Grab a bowl and set it in the middle, between you and me. Oh, and don’t forget to put Coyote to the side, we don’t want him getting in the way.

Let’s begin by putting all the stones into the bag and giving it a good shake. After that, draw four stones and place them in the bowl. But here’s the catch: if any of the stones you drew happen to be special opalescent Spirit Stones, put them back in the bag and draw new ones until you have a total of four in the bowl.

Now it’s time to hand out the player boards and action cards. Each player gets a board and a set of six action cards. Spread the cards face-up in front of the boards so everyone can see them.

We also need to prepare the Spirit Power cards. Shuffle them and split them into two equal piles, making sure they are face-up. Each pile should have three cards in it.

Okay, now it’s time to choose who goes first. The lucky player who gets the honor flips over their “Take Two Stones” action card so that it’s face-down. They won’t be able to use that action until they recover it later on.

How to Play the Game

When it’s your turn, you get to choose one of your action cards and do what it says. Once you’re done, flip the card over so it’s face-down. If the card tells you to take some stones, make sure there are enough in the bowl for you to take.

Grab a Stone – Reach into the bowl and grab one stone. Then, put that stone on your scoring board. But remember, if there are no stones left in the bowl, you won’t be able to do this action.

Two Stones for You – I’m going to give you a simple task. Reach into the bowl and take two stones. Put them on your scoring board. Just remember, if there are less than two stones in the bowl, you won’t be able to do this.

Here’s a game for you: Add two stones & take one stone! So, this is how it goes: grab two stones from the bag and put them in the bowl. After that, you pick one stone from the bowl and put it on your player board.

Let’s play an exciting game – Add three stones & move coyote! First, I’ll reach into the bag and take out three stones. I’ll place them in the bowl. Now, it’s time to strategize. I can choose to move the Coyote pawn onto one of the animals on my opponent’s board. It’s up to me, I have the freedom to decide. If I don’t want to move the Coyote, that’s totally fine too. The choice is mine!

Let’s use the power of spirits and recover cards – You can only do this if you have at least three other action cards face-down.

Choose one of the spirit power cards that are face-up. Take the action(s) shown on the card and place it back at the bottom of where it came from. Flip all six of your face-down action cards so that they are face-up.

Note: You have to do the actions on the spirit power card in the order they are written.

Putting the Stones in Place

After you take stones from the bowl, put them on your player board. The board is split into five parts, each showing a different animal and their special needs.

If the stone doesn’t meet the animal’s needs, you can’t give it to them. If you get a stone that you can’t put on your board, put it back in the bowl.

What the Animals Need

Owl – You need pairs of stones that are the same color.

When you give Owl a complete pair, you earn 3 points. Remember, you don’t have to finish a pair in one turn. It’s okay to start a new pair before you finish the previous one.

If you collect a complete set of Rabbit cards, you earn 6 points. To complete the set, you need cards of three different colors.

For the Beaver cards, you need to collect three cards of the same color and a pair of cards that have the same color. If you do, you earn 5 points for the three-of-a-kind and 2 points for the pair. Just like with Rabbit cards, you don’t have to finish both sets in one turn. You can start one set before finishing the other. If you manage to complete both sets, you get a bonus of 7 points, for a total of 14 points.

If you collect one of each color of Salmon card, you earn points based on how many stones you give to Salmon. If you give Salmon one stone, you earn 1 point. Two stones get you 2 points, three stones earn 4 points, four stones earn 6 points, five stones earn 9 points, and if you give Salmon six stones, you earn a whopping 13 points.

Finally, to earn points with Turtle cards, you need to collect all Turtle cards of the same color. The more cards of the same color you have, the more points you earn. The choice is yours!

When you give Turtle more stones, you earn more points! Each stone has a value: one stone is worth 1 point, two stones are worth 3 points, three stones are worth 6 points, four stones are worth 9 points, and five stones are worth a whopping 14 points!

The Magic of Spirit Stones

Spirit Stones are extraordinary. They have a special power that can only be unleashed in the bonus spaces. When you place a Spirit Stone in a bonus space, the points you earn for that animal will be doubled! But be careful – once you place a Spirit Stone, that section is closed off, and you can’t add any more stones to that animal.

The Crafty Coyote

Let me introduce you to Coyote, a cunning trickster who takes delight in diverting the attention of other animals. If Coyote happens to land on one of your animals, you won’t be able to place any stones, including the precious Spirit Stones, in that area until Coyote decides to make its move. But worry not, for there are two strategies to outsmart this sly creature:

If you want a strategy that allows you to gain an advantage in the game, try using the ‘Add three stones & Move Coyote’ action. This move involves adding stones to the bowl and then moving Coyote to an animal on your opponent’s scoring board.

Hey there! Let’s talk about the exciting game of Spirit Island and how to play it. You’ll love it!

Here’s a tip: Take one stone actions! On the back of each ‘Take one stone’ action card, you’ll find half of Coyote. Once both cards are face down, you complete the image of Coyote. How cool is that? And guess what? You can then move Coyote to an animal on your opponent’s player board. Talk about strategy!

The End of the Game

Now, let me tell you about winning this awesome game. If there are five Spirit Stones out of the bag at the end of any player’s turn, the game ends immediately. These stones can be in the bowl or on player boards. So be on the lookout for those Spirit Stones!

Scoring
