Spaceteam Game Rules
Hey there! Ready to blast off into the wacky world of Spaceteam? Buckle up and get ready for a wild ride!
Spaceteam is a cooperative party game that will challenge your communication skills and teamwork. The goal is simple: work together to save your spaceship from certain doom. But be warned, this game will push your limits and leave you laughing until your sides ache.
Here’s how it works:
1. Gather your crew: Grab your friends, family, or random people at the bus stop – the more, the merrier! Spaceteam is best played with a group of 2 to 8 players.
2. Set up your devices: Each player will need a mobile device running the Spaceteam app. Make sure you’re all connected to the same Wi-Fi network or use Bluetooth to link up.
3. Brace for chaos: Once you’re all connected, prepare for the chaos to begin. You’ll each be assigned a control panel with buttons, switches, and dials. But here’s the twist – the instructions you receive will be for someone else’s control panel.
4. Follow the instructions: As the game starts, you’ll receive a series of gibberish instructions on your screen. These instructions are the real deal, so don’t ignore them! But wait, there’s a catch – the instructions you receive are meant for someone else’s control panel. You’ll have to communicate with your teammates to let them know what instructions you have and listen to them to know which instructions are meant for you. It’s like a frenzied game of telephone in space!
5. Shout it out: Communication is key in Spaceteam. Shout out the instructions you have and listen carefully to what your teammates are saying. You’ll need to work together to figure out who needs to do what and when. The clock is ticking, so don’t waste any time!
6. Beat the clock: Each instruction will have a time limit. If you don’t complete it in time, bad things will happen to your ship. Sparks will fly, alarms will blare, and chaos will ensue. Stay focused and work quickly to avoid disaster!

Hey there! I’m your Captain and I’m here to guide you through your adventure as part of a Spaceteam on a malfunctioning spaceship. Our main goal is to make sure that all the ship’s systems are working perfectly so that we can escape a dangerous black hole.
Each of you has a vital role in fixing malfunctions in your assigned area. We’ll equip you with some awesome space tools to help you out. But wait, there’s more! Sometimes, we’ll encounter anomalies that will need all of us to coordinate and work together as a team. We only have 5 minutes to complete our repairs, so let’s be quick and efficient. Good luck, and remember, I’ve got your back. Captain out!
What You’ll Need
- There are 24 tool cards
- There are 45 malfunction cards
- There are 15 anomaly cards
- There are 6 systems go cards
- There is 1 five-minute timer
The Aim of the Game
In Spaceteam, we all work together to either win or lose. We win if we can find and put together all 6 Systems Go Cards before time runs out. If we can’t do that, then we lose.
Getting Ready

I’ll set the timer for 5 minutes and put it in the middle of the table.
Separating the Tool Deck
First, let’s split up the Tool Cards (the ones with the blue backs) from the rest of the cards. Each of us should get some Tool Cards. You can look at them and keep them in your hands. It doesn’t matter how many of us there are – we have to use all the Tool Cards.
Welcome to the Malfunction Deck!
Let’s get started by setting up the Malfunction Deck, which consists of Malfunction Cards, Anomaly Cards, and Systems Go Cards (all with orange backs). To determine the difficulty level and the number of players, follow the table below. Once you have the right number of cards, add the 6 Systems Go Cards. Any unused cards can be set aside for now.
Remember, these unused cards won’t be used in the game. Now that we have the Malfunction Deck ready, let’s shuffle the cards and distribute them evenly among all players. You can keep the deck in your playing area, but don’t peek at the cards!

Game Play
Begin
Ready, set, go! Flip over your Malfunction Deck and reveal the bottom card. We all play and shout simultaneously, no waiting for turns here.
Now it’s time to resolve each malfunction one by one, starting from the top of your deck. After resolving a card, discard it face down in a discard pile next to you.
What’s on the Cards?
The malfunction cards hold surprises and challenges. Each one brings a unique twist to the game that you’ll have to handle.
When I come across a Malfunction Card, I can fix it by placing all the necessary Tool Cards right above it. The Malfunction Card tells me which tool or tools I need in the ‘FIX WITH’ box.
I can find out the tools I need by looking at their names, images, or tool-type icons. Once I’ve fixed the Malfunction, I can pick up the Tool Cards I used and keep playing.
Anomaly Cards

When you come across Anomaly Cards during the game, you’ll need to take action to resolve them. These cards will tell you what action you need to perform in order to move forward.
Once you’ve completed the action specified on the card, you can discard the Anomaly Card and continue playing.
Systems Go Cards
Hey there! Let’s talk about Systems Go cards. These cards tell us that a specific part of our Spaceship has been fixed and is working well.
When we find a Systems Go Card, we have to read out the caption really loudly (like “NAVIGATION SYSTEMS ARE GO!!”) and put the card in the middle of our play area.
There are 6 Systems Go Cards in total. Each card represents a different part of our Spaceship. If we can find all 6 cards, then we win the game!
Tools
Guess what? On the Spaceship, we’ve got a bunch of cool tools, but here’s the twist: we only have one of each tool. And you know what else? These tools are scattered among all of us Players. Each tool is unique and falls into a specific category, like Booster or Atomizer. You can easily spot the tool’s category by looking at its name and the icon in the top left corner of the Tool Card.
Now, here’s the real challenge: we need to work together to fix the spaceship before time runs out. And that means we have to share our Tool Cards with each other. But there’s a catch – you can only hand a Tool Card to a Player who’s sitting right next to you. No passing it along across the table. Got it?
Oh, and one more thing: once you place a Tool Card on a Malfunction, you can’t remove it or use it somewhere else until that specific Malfunction is fixed. Just something to keep in mind. And hey, don’t go overboard – you can’t have more than 3 Tool Cards on the playing surface at any given time. Gotta keep things fair.
