Watch out for these sneaky creatures! They’re always hungry for fireflies and will come running when they see them. Some of them might leave if they don’t find what they’re looking for, but others will stick around no matter what. Eventually, you’ll be surrounded by a bunch of adorable little creatures. Whether that’s a good thing or not, I’ll let you decide!
The Stuff You Get
- 50 Cards
- 40 Beads
- 1 bag to store the beads

The Goal of the Game
The game consists of 10 rounds where you bid fireflies (beads) to acquire creatures that will earn you points. In order to win, you need to be strategic with your bids. While most creatures will increase your score, others will actually decrease it. And be careful! If two of your cards have the same color in their top-left corner, you have to get rid of both of them.
So, here’s the deal: once we finish the final round, those colored beads we’ve been collecting during the game won’t be worth much anymore. The winner, my friend, will be the one with the highest number of points.
Setting Up the Game
To get started, all you need to do is prepare the draw pile. This is really easy – just follow these simple steps, and you’ll be ready to play.
First, take a look at how many players are going to be joining in on the fun. Depending on the number of players, you’ll need to make a few adjustments to the deck.
- If there are 5 players, then no changes are needed. You can use all the cards in the deck.
- If there are 4 players, you’ll need to remove any cards that have the image shown below: #image.jpg
- For 3 players, you’ll want to remove any cards that have this image on them: #image.jpg
Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments, it’s time to shuffle the remaining cards. Once they’re thoroughly mixed up, create a draw pile by placing them face-down in the center of the play area. And that’s it – you’re all set and ready to start playing!

Hey there! Let’s get into the exciting world of a game called “Clear Beads”. It’s super easy and loads of fun! Here’s how it works:
I’ll give you 6 clear beads, and you’ll hold them secretly in one hand. Remember, no peeking!
Now, it’s time to play! Are you ready?
Let’s start by placing the remaining beads, both clear and blue, near the draw pile. These will serve as our common supply.
Now, the starting player is the last person who saw a firefly.
Playing the Game
We will play a total of 10 auctions, each consisting of two phases: Revealing and Bidding. These phases must be played in order.
1. Revealing
In the Revealing phase, we will reveal as many cards as there are players in the game. These cards should be placed face up, in ascending order, next to the draw pile.

2. Bidding
Once the cards are revealed, bidding will start with the starting player and continue in a clockwise direction. Bidding can go on for multiple rounds.
On your turn, you have the option to either bid or back out.
A. Bid: To stay in the auction, you have to put 1 clear bead on the card with the lowest value. If there are multiple cards with the lowest value, you choose which one to put your bead on. Then it’s the next player’s turn.
B. Back out: If there is at least one card with 1 or more beads on it, instead of placing a bid, you can back out of the auction. Pick a card with beads on it, place it in front of you, and take all those beads in your hand.
If there are multiple cards with beads on them, choose one among those.
Once a player has backed out, they are skipped for the rest of the current auction.
Important: If no cards have beads on them, you cannot back out.
Hey there! It’s your turn now! If you’re the only one left in the auction, congratulations! You automatically get the last card, even if there aren’t any beads on it. And guess what? You become the start player for the next auction. Exciting, isn’t it?
Oh, and by the way: by now, every player has received one of the cards that were revealed earlier. So, keep that in mind as we move forward!

Can’t dodge or quit: If you can’t bid (you don’t possess any clear beads) or quit (no cards hold beads), you must grab a clear bead and a blue bead from the stash, and immediately bid with the clear bead.
Blue beads keep track of how many clear beads you’ve borrowed; at the end of the game, you lose one point for each blue bead.
Note: Players are not allowed to bid with blue beads.
Stash depleted: If the supply runs out of either color of beads, use a suitable replacement. Remember that whenever you take a clear bead from the stash, you must also take a blue one.
If you come across two cards with the same color in the top-left corner, you gotta get rid of them right away. Toss those cards out of the game!
Let’s say it’s a game with three players:
When it comes to starting a game of Adele, the first move is crucial. As the starting player, I have the responsibility of strategically placing a bead on the -2 position. This initial move sets the tone for the rest of the game and can have a significant impact on the final outcome.
Next up is Bianca, and she’s got a choice to make. She can either take the -2 with the bead or plop a bead on there. After a little thought, she decides to take the card. And just like that, she’s got a shiny new bead! Oh, but hold on – it turns out Bianca already has a card that shows the color yellow. So what does she do? Well, she tosses both of those cards to the side.
I’m completely out of beads. So here’s what I did: I grabbed a clear bead and a blue bead from the supply. Now, here comes the tricky part. I decided to bet with the clear bead, even though both beads have the same value and I could have placed it on either card.
I grab the card with a bead on it, as Adele chooses to retreat. She had the option to place a bead on either card if she wanted to.

I’m the last player, so I get to take the final card, even if there aren’t any beads left on it. That means I’ll be the one who starts the next auction.
Game Over
After 10 auctions, the draw pile will be empty. Once the last auction is finished, the game comes to an end, and we can start scoring points. Here’s how it works:
- To find out how many points I have, I add up the values of all my cards, positive and negative.
- If I have a set of 5 clear beads (or more), I get an extra point for every set.
- But if I have any blue beads, I lose a point for each one.
The player with the most points wins. But if there’s a tie, we look at who has the most clear beads. If the tie still isn’t broken, then we all share the victory!
Here’s an example to show you how scoring works:
Cards: When I add 6 and 3 and then subtract 2, I get a total of 7 points.
Beads: I have 6 clear beads, which gives me a score of 1 point. But I also have 1 blue bead, which takes away 1 point.
Final Score: So, when I add up my points from the cards and the beads, my final score is 7 points.
