A mommy velociraptor and her five babies are being chased by a team of scientists. If you’re in control of the raptor family, you can win by getting rid of the scientists or by helping three of your babies find a safe hiding spot deep in the jungle, where no one will ever find them. On the other hand, if you’re in control of the scientists, your goal is to either neutralize the mother raptor or capture three of her babies.

The player controlling the raptors wins if:

– Three baby raptors manage to escape from the board, or

– There are no scientists left on the board.

The player controlling the scientists wins if:

– The mother raptor has 5 sleep tokens, which makes her neutralized, or

– Three baby raptors have been put to sleep and captured.

Now, let’s talk about the different components of the game.

The most important part is the game board.

I made a game board out of different tiles:

– 6 big tiles with 9 spaces each

– and 4 L-shaped tiles with 3 spaces and one exit (half-space)

The two sides of the board have different vibes.

Get Ready

To begin the game, you will need to set up the board:

Setting Up the Game

1. Choose either a jungle or savannah atmosphere for the game. This decision applies to all ten tiles on the board.
2. Randomly place the six square tiles in a 2-by-3 rectangle.
3. Randomly place the four L-shaped tiles on the shorter sides of the rectangle from step 2.
4. Put the 3D rocks on the spaces that don’t show a circle or half-circle.
5. The Raptor player goes first and places the raptor figurines on the board, followed by the Scientist player.

The Raptor Player Receives:

• The Raptor player aid 1
• The 9 Raptor Action cards
• The mother figurine
• The 5 baby raptor figurines

I put the mama raptor and her babies on the playing board. The mama raptor goes on one of the two middle tiles 2. Then, I scatter the 5 baby raptors around the board, putting one on each of the other tiles 3.

Now it’s the scientist player’s turn. I get some items: a card with helpful information 4, 9 action cards to use, 10 scientist figurines, 10 fire tokens 5, and 5 sleep tokens that I place face up on the top right corner of my card 6.

Next, I put one scientist on a spot of my choice on each of the 4 L-shaped tiles 7. I keep the remaining 6 scientists by my card 8, ready to use later.

Okay, here’s what you need to do:

First, shuffle your deck of Action cards and put it in front of you. Make sure you have 9 cards in your deck.

Next, draw the top 3 cards from your deck and hold them in your hand. These cards will be the ones you use in the game.

Now, we’re ready to start the first round!

Note: I’ll be using male pronouns throughout this guide, but remember that this includes female players as well.

How to Play

• Make sure there’s only one figurine or token on each space. You can’t have two on the same space.
• Spaces next to each other are considered neighbors, but only if they are next to each other in a straight line. Diagonal spaces don’t count.

Alright, listen up! I’m gonna break it down for you. So, in this game, we got these exit spots called half-spaces. The babies need to escape through these half-spaces, got it? No other tokens or figurines can go there, only the babies. And you know how those little raptors move? It’s when we use the “A baby raptor moves one space” action. Easy peasy!

Now, let’s talk about the game turn. So, each player picks one of their cards and puts it face-down in front of them. Then, bam! Both cards are revealed at the same time. If the cards have the same value, we just throw ’em away. They don’t do anything. Cool, right?

That’s the deal, my friend. Simple rules for a fun game. Now go out there and have a blast!

When it comes to playing cards, it’s important to know that in most cases, each card will have a different value. If that’s the case, the player who played the card with the lowest value gets to go first and apply the effects of their card, if possible. After that, the other player gets a number of action points equal to the difference between the values of the two cards.

But here’s the important part: the player who receives action points doesn’t get to apply the effects of the card they played. They can only use those action points to do other things.

The Scientist player used their “Reinforcements” card, which was card 2. On the other hand, the Raptor player played card 6, titled “Disappearance and observation.”

Since the Scientist player played the lowest value card, they got to apply the effect of their card. As a result, they were able to add two scientists to the game board. How cool is that?

Now, the Raptor player has 6 action points, but they already used 2 to play their card. So they have 4 action points left. They can use these points to interact with either the mother or the awake babies. Talk about options!

And that’s the end of the round. It was an intense and thrilling game, wouldn’t you agree?

In the game, each player gets three cards in their hand and the action cards they play are placed in front of them for everyone to see. If a player runs out of cards in their draw pile, they shuffle the discard pile and draw three new cards.

The game ends when one of the following conditions is met: Three baby raptors escape or there are no more scientists on the board. If the Raptor player fulfills either of these conditions, they win. On the other hand, if the mother raptor has five sleep tokens or three baby raptors are captured, the Scientist player wins.
