PicWits! Game Rules

Hey there! Welcome to the wonderful world of PicWits! I’m here to walk you through the rules and get you ready for an awesome time. So let’s dive right in, shall we?

PicWits is all about using your imagination to come up with the funniest and most creative captions for the pictures you see. It’s like a game of wit and hilarity rolled into one. And the best part? Anyone can play!

Here’s how it works. First, you’ll need a deck of PicWits cards. Each card has a unique picture on it. These pictures can be anything from animals to objects to people doing silly things. The possibilities are endless!

Once you have your cards, you’ll choose a judge for the round. Don’t worry, it rotates with each round, so everyone gets a chance to be the judge. The judge will draw a caption card and read it out loud.

Now, it’s your turn to shine. You’ll look at the picture on your card and come up with a caption that you think matches the caption card. Get creative! The goal is to make the judge laugh or be amazed by your witty response.

When everyone has come up with their captions, the judge collects them all and reads them out loud. This is where the real fun begins! As the judge, you get to decide which caption is the best match for the picture. It’s completely up to you, so choose wisely!

The player who submitted the winning caption gets to keep the caption card as a point. The game continues with a new round, and the judge role moves on to the next player. The first player to collect a certain number of caption cards (decide on the number at the start of the game) wins!

PicWits is a game that brings people together through laughter and creativity. It’s a chance to let your imagination run wild and see the hilarious ideas that others come up with. It’s the perfect game for parties, family gatherings, or just a fun night in with friends.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your friends, your sense of humor, and let the captioning begin! Get ready for an unforgettable time of laughter and wit with PicWits!

To start playing PicWits, you’ll need the white Caption Cards and red Picture Cards. Shuffle the white Caption Cards and place them facedown in the middle of the table. Shuffle the red Picture Cards and deal 8 cards to each player.

Now, take the remaining Picture Cards and create smaller decks, placing them within easy reach of each player around the table.

How to Play

PicWits is played in rounds, and each round requires a judge. The first round’s judge is the player who most recently used a camera. If there’s any disagreement, the youngest player becomes the first judge for the game.

Starting a Round

When I start a round, I pick a card from the Caption deck. I read the caption out loud and put the Caption Card face up on the table.

Everyone else looks at their cards and tries to find the picture that matches the caption the best. They have to think like the judge and choose the card they think the judge will like the most. Once they’ve made their choice, they put the card face down in front of the judge.

If someone is taking too long to pick a card, the judge can start counting down from five. When they reach one, anyone who hasn’t played a card yet loses their chance to play in this round.

When we all play a Picture Card, or when the countdown is up, the judge mixes up the Picture Cards so that they don’t know who played which card.

Then, the judge flips over the Picture Cards one by one for everyone to see. After looking at each picture, the judge decides which card they think best goes with the caption. The person who played that card wins the round and gets the Caption Card.

Ending the Round

Gather all the Picture Cards played in the round and put them aside in a separate pile.

Except for the judge, each player should draw a new Picture Card to have a hand of 8 cards again. The person sitting to the left of the judge becomes the new judge for the next round.

Game Over

We keep playing rounds until someone collects enough Caption Cards to claim victory. Here’s how many cards you need to win:

Number of cards needed to win:

  • If there are 3-4 players, you need 7 cards.
  • If there are 5-6 players, you need 6 cards.
  • If there are 7-8 players, you need 5 cards.
  • If there are 9 or more players, you need 4 cards.
