Welcome to the Pictionary Junior Game!
Are you ready to test your drawing skills and have a blast with your friends? Let’s dive in!
Here’s how the game works: you and your fellow players will take turns drawing pictures that represent specific words or phrases. Your objective? Get your teammates to guess the correct word or phrase within a certain amount of time. Sounds fun, right? Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need
Before we begin, make sure you have everything you need to enjoy the game:
- A game board
- Category cards
- One-minute sand timer
- Drawing paper
- Pencil or pen
- A playing piece for each team
Once you have all the necessary supplies, you’re ready to begin!
Setting Up the Game
To start, each team will choose a playing piece and place it on the “Start” space on the game board.
Next, shuffle the category cards and place them face down within reach. Each category card has a list of words or phrases that you’ll be drawing throughout the game.
Decide which team will go first. The team can be chosen using any fair method, like flipping a coin or Rock-Paper-Scissors. Once you’ve determined the starting team, they’ll be the “Drawing Team” for the first round.
Playing the Game
When it’s your team’s turn to draw, you’ll select a category card from the deck. Look at the top word or phrase on the card, and keep it a secret from your teammates.
Start the one-minute sand timer, and begin drawing! Your goal is to represent the word or phrase on the card through your drawing. You cannot use any written words, numbers, or gestures to communicate the word or phrase.
As you draw, your teammates will try to guess what you’re representing. When they think they know the answer, they can shout it out! If they’re correct, your team scores a point, and it’s the next team’s turn to draw. If they can’t guess it within the allotted time, no points are awarded, and play passes to the next team.
The teams continue taking turns, rotating the Drawing Team each round, until one team reaches the finish space on the game board. That team is declared the winner!
Tips for Success
Here are a few tips to help you succeed in the game:
- Keep your drawings simple and clear. You want your teammates to be able to guess the word or phrase quickly!
- Be creative! Sometimes you’ll need to think outside the box to represent a challenging word or phrase.
- Don’t be afraid to take risks. You only have one minute, so go for it!
Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the Pictionary Junior game with your friends and family. Let your imagination run wild and get ready for an exciting guessing game like no other!

Let’s Play!
The goal of this game is to use your drawing skills to advance from the Start square to the Finish square. The first team to reach the Finish square and correctly guess the final sketch will win the game!
Getting Started
To get started, divide the players into two teams. Try to have an equal number of players on each team and make sure they are around the same age.
Tip: There are two card decks in Junior Pictionary. The yellow cards are easier and better suited for younger players, while the orange cards are more challenging and perfect for older players.
We recommend starting with the yellow cards and progressing to the orange cards. If you have teams with different ages, you can mix and match the two decks to accommodate everyone.
When you play the game, each team will need a pencil, a drawing pad, and a playing piece that starts on the Start square.
To start, each team selects a Picturist who will be the first one to sketch a word. The Picturists will roll the die, and the player with the highest roll gets to choose the first card.
Playing the Game
You may be wondering, how do I play this game? Well, let me break it down for you. When you first start, you’ll be given a character to control. This character is represented on the screen by a little sprite. The goal of the game is to navigate your character through different levels, overcoming obstacles and enemies along the way. You can move your character using the arrow keys on your keyboard. The left and right arrow keys control horizontal movement, while the up arrow key allows your character to jump. The game is divided into different levels, each with its own unique challenges. As you progress through the game and complete levels, you’ll earn points and unlock new levels.
Level Design
Now, let’s talk about level design. Level design is the process of creating the different levels in the game. Each level is carefully crafted to provide a unique and interesting experience for the player. The design of the levels can vary greatly, from simple platforming challenges to complex puzzles. One important aspect of level design is the placement of objects and enemies. These can pose obstacles for the player and provide opportunities for strategic thinking. Level design is a crucial part of creating a fun and engaging game that keeps players coming back for more.
Graphics and Sound
Graphics and sound play a critical role in enhancing the gaming experience. Engaging visuals can immerse you in the game world and make it more enjoyable to play. Whether it’s vibrant colors, detailed backgrounds, or smooth animations, good graphics can elevate the overall experience. Sound effects and music also contribute to the atmosphere of the game. They can heighten the sense of excitement or create a feeling of tension. The combination of visuals and sound can make a game truly come alive.
Strategy and Skill
In addition to the technical aspects of the game, strategy and skill are key components of gameplay. As you progress through the levels, you’ll encounter more challenging obstacles and enemies. You’ll need to think strategically and develop your skills to overcome these challenges. This may involve learning enemy patterns, timing your jumps correctly, or using power-ups effectively. The more you play, the better you’ll become, and the more satisfying it will be to conquer those difficult levels.
The Joy of Gaming
Playing games is not just about winning or advancing through levels. It’s about the joy and excitement of immersing yourself in a different world. It’s about the sense of achievement when you overcome a difficult challenge. It’s about the thrill of competing with friends or working together to solve a puzzle. Games offer a unique form of entertainment that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, playing games is a fun and engaging way to spend your time. It allows you to explore new worlds, test your skills, and experience a wide range of emotions. So, grab your controller (or keyboard) and dive into the wonderful world of gaming. You never know what adventures await!
Ready, Set, Sketch!
Hey there! So, you’ve landed on the Start square, huh? Well, guess what? This square is pretty special – it’s called the ALL PLAY square. And let me tell you, things are about to get exciting!
Alright, here’s the deal. Both teams are going to be sketching at the same time. Yep, you read that right! Both of you are going to flex your artistic skills and try to guess the same word. Pretty cool, right?
Here’s how it works. The Picturist who starts the game grabs a card and reads out the theme at the top. This theme will give everyone a little hint about the word you’re all gonna try to sketch.
Now, here’s the sneaky part. The starting Picturist shows the card to the Picturist on the other team, secretly, of course. You’re all in it together, but a little friendly competition never hurt anyone!
Alright, once the stage is set, the timer gets turned over, and it’s off to the races! Both Picturists have one minute to sketch as many clues as possible for their teams to guess the word. Think you can handle the pressure?
If the timer runs out before either team guesses the word correctly, it’s the other team’s turn. They pick a new card and choose a new Picturist – No need to roll the die. Only when a team makes a correct guess can they roll the die.
If a team correctly guesses the ALL PLAY word before the timer runs out, they roll the die and move their playing piece the number shown. The team then selects a new Picturist and continues with the next card.
Remember, the same rules apply when you land on an ALL PLAY square later in the game.
The Picturist for the team that lands on the ALL PLAY square is the one who takes a card and shows the other Picturist the word that matches the color of the ALL PLAY square.
How to Play as One Team:
When you see this symbol, it means that the word you need to draw is only played by your team.
Here’s how it works: one player becomes the Picturist and picks a card. They read the theme at the top and then look at the word that matches the colored square their team’s playing piece is on.
Once the timer starts, the Picturist begins sketching clues for their teammates to guess the word.
If your team guesses the word before the time runs out, you can roll the die and move your playing piece the number shown. Then, it’s time for a new Picturist and a new card. Keep playing!
If your team doesn’t guess the word in time, you don’t get to roll the die. The other team gets a turn. Just remember, you can only roll the die if you guess the word correctly.
How the Game Ends
Hey there! Let me tell you how to play this fun game.
So, the goal is to be the first team to land on the Finish square. But here’s the twist – you also have to guess a word correctly!
Now, the Finish square has an ALL PLAY symbol on it, which means the word you have to sketch is an ALL PLAY. Exciting, right?
Here’s an important thing to remember: you need to win the ALL PLAY and be on the Finish square to win the game. Got it?
Here are some Dos and Don’ts for the game:
It’s okay if you sketch a word that’s close to the actual word. For example, if the word is “tow,” you can sketch “toe.” And if the word is “son,” go ahead and sketch “sun.” You get the idea!
Now, there are a couple of things you can’t do while sketching clues. The picture can’t talk or use hand signals, and you can’t use letters or numbers. Fair enough, right?
Now, here’s some other important stuff to know:
Each team takes turns being the Picturist. And for each new word, there should be a new Picturist.
If you only have three players, no worries! Just let one player be the Picturist for both teams.
Oh, and here’s a cool thing: two “Sketch” playing pieces can occupy the same square at the same time. How fun is that?
If you’re an experienced player looking for a challenge, don’t reveal the theme on the card.
For younger players, flip the timer as soon as it runs out – this gives them twice the time to guess the word.
Feel free to use multiple sheets of paper for the same word, but make sure to use both sides.
To add more color, you can use different colored pencils, but keep in mind that you only have one minute to help your teammates guess.
Flexibility
Decide at the start if it’s acceptable to bend the rules. For instance, is it okay to say “bunk” when the word is “bunk bed”? The choice is yours.
