There are two ways you can make a Trend work for you when you want to move your Flask: either by spending Energy Tokens to activate multiple trends or by gaining Energy Tokens and activating just one trend.

Spending Energy Token(s)

If you choose to “Spend,” you have to pay Energy Tokens to get multiple periodic trends up and running. To activate the first one, put 1 Energy Token on the trend you want to activate.

Then, move your Flask across the periodic table 1 to 5 spaces in the direction the periodic trend indicates. If you want to activate additional trends, put 2 Energy Tokens on each one you’re interested in.

You can activate as many periodic trends as you want, and you can even activate the same trend multiple times if you have enough Energy Tokens.

Get Some Energy Tokens

You can move your Flask 1 to 5 spaces in total. Remember, this is the only trend you can activate on this turn, unless you have Award Tiles.

If the trend you want to activate has no Energy Tokens, you can take 1 Token from the player with the most Tokens. If multiple players are tied for most, you get to choose. But in a game with only 2 players, you take the Token from the box.

This lets you move your Flask either left or right, based on the Atomic Number. Just a reminder, moving from Barium to Hafnium or from Radium to Rutherfordium counts as one space. And if you want to move diagonally, you’ll need to move two spaces. For example, you can move up and then right. But you can’t move diagonally in just one move.

2. Refreshing after your Turn

Once you’ve finished your final movement, take a moment to see if you need to do any of the following: Refresh Completed Goal Cards or Advance Markers on Tracks.

a. Refresh Completed Goals Cards

I’ve got an important point to bring up. So, if one person has Research Cubes on each element of a Goal Card, that means the Goal Card is done! And get this, they can even finish multiple Goal Cards in just one turn (pretty impressive, right?). Now, here’s the really interesting part: any Goal Cards that weren’t finished during that turn stay the same for the next person’s turn. But, for the Goal Card(s) that were completed, listen up because this is exciting! You get to do the following: take some Lab Tokens (which are like points) and also keep those Research Cubes you used. It’s like a double win!

When a Goal Card is completed and has Research Cubes on it (excluding the player who completed the card), each player takes back their Research Cubes and receives Lab Tokens as a reward. Here’s how the Lab Tokens are awarded based on the total number of Research Cubes a player has on the completed Goal Card:

– If a player has 1 Research Cube, they receive a Lab Token worth 3 points.

– If a player has 2 Research Cubes, they receive a Lab Token worth 5 points.

In addition to this, there are a few other actions that need to be taken:

1. Take the completed Goal Card and Award Tile.

2. Flip a new Goal Card.

3. Advance the markers on the different tracks.

4. Advance on the Element Group Track.

As I advance my Microscope to the next Element Group Card, I also move my Disc one level to the right along the Academic Track. This way, I keep track of my progress and accumulate points.

Now that my turn is over, it’s time for the player to my left to take their turn. The final round of the game will commence when one stack of Goal Cards is depleted. If that happens, we replenish the empty stacks with Goal Cards from the box, ensuring that there are always four cards available for us to use.

Award Tiles

Award Tiles are special rewards that you receive when you finish certain Goal Cards. These tiles have amazing benefits that can help you during the game.

When it’s your turn, you have the option to use as many Award Tiles as you want. It doesn’t matter if you spend or gain actions, you can still enjoy the bonus abilities provided by these tiles.

But here’s the catch – once you use an Award Tile, you have to put it back in the box. It’s a one-time bonus that you can’t use again.

+3 Spaces – After you activate a periodic trend, you can use this tile to move your Flask an extra 1, 2, or 3 spaces in the same direction as the trend. It’s like getting a boost to help you move farther!

Free Trend – You can use this special tile during your turn to activate the periodic trend shown on the Award Tile, without having to pay for it.

Move To – You can use this tile whenever you like to transport your Flask to any element on the periodic table. Just make sure the element is in the same Element Group shown on the Award Tile.

Get Energized – Kickstart your turn by using this tile to collect 2 Energy Tokens from one or two periodic trends. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to activate the periodic trend where the Energy came from.

Once you’ve used this tile, carry on with your turn as normal, whether you’re gaining or spending.

Mission Cards
