Getting Started

• If you’re the youngest player, you’ll receive the Chief Penguin card.

I’m so excited to tell you all about this awesome game! First things first, let’s get set up. Here’s what we need to do:

1. Each of us needs to grab a set of 5 Action cards. Make sure they’re all the same color. Any extra sets can be put back in the box for now.

2. Now, let’s shuffle the Goal cards and draw 3 of them. We’ll place these face up on the table where everyone can see. Any remaining Goal cards can be put away for later.

3. Time to shuffle the Penguin card deck and place it on the table. We’ll also need to draw a number of Penguin cards equal to the number of players and lay them face up for everyone to see.

Once we’re all set up, it’s time to start playing! Let’s have some fun!

Object of the Game

Hey there! So, here’s how it goes: in each round, we all choose a card from our hand to determine the order in which we get to pick a penguin. The lower the number on your card, the sooner you get to choose!

Once we’ve all picked our penguins, we have to place them in front of us according to certain rules. As we go along, we’ll be building a pyramid, and we want to make sure the heavier penguins are on the lower levels.

Oh, but don’t forget about the Goal cards! They give us extra ways to score points. At the end of the game, we’ll get points for the penguins in our pyramid and for matching Goal cards. The player with the most points becomes the penguin pharaoh!

Game Play

Alright, let’s get down to business. The game goes on for 10 rounds.

Alright, let’s get this game started! To begin each round, I’ll reveal a number of Penguin cards from the deck, and this number will be equal to the number of players. We’ve already done this for the first round, so no worries.

Now it’s time for each of us to pick an Action card from our hand, but we have to keep it a secret. So, put your chosen card face down on the table. Once we’re all ready, we’ll reveal our cards at the same time.

Next, we’ll take our turns in a specific order determined by the number on our Action cards. The player with the lowest number goes first, followed by the second lowest, and so on. In case of a tie, we’ll break it by starting with the player who has the Chief Penguin. If the Chief Penguin isn’t involved in the tie, we’ll move to the player closest to them in a clockwise direction.

Once you play an Action card, don’t forget to keep it face down in front of you to the side. You won’t be able to use it again until you draw it again (which happens when you play Action card #4, as we’ll see below).

Let me give you an example of how the turn order works. Imagine we have three players: Luke, Peter, and Michelle.

In this game, each player is assigned a number to indicate their turn. Luke has the number 1, while both Peter and Michelle have the number 4.

Now, let’s see how the turn order plays out. Since Luke has the lowest number, he goes first. After Luke, it’s Peter’s turn since he has the next lowest number. Finally, Michelle goes last since her number is the highest among the three.

So, the turn order for this game is as follows: Luke, Peter, and then Michelle.

So, here’s what you do when it’s your turn:

• First, you gotta pick one of those Penguin cards that are still available. You know, the ones that nobody else has taken yet. Slide it right into your pyramid.
• Next, if you want, you can do the special thing that’s written on the Action card you just played. It’s up to you.

Building Your Pyramid

Okay, so when you’re building your pyramid, remember this:

Start from the bottom and work your way up. There are four levels, and you gotta follow this configuration:

To build the Penguin pyramid, there are some important rules you must follow:

• When placing a penguin, it must be beside another penguin or on top of two lower penguins. However, for your first penguin, you have the freedom to place it anywhere on your base level;
• The penguins above your base level need support from the penguins below. This means that the combined strength of the two penguins below must be equal to or greater than the weight of the penguin above.

Notice: Always choose a penguin that you can place in your pyramid, if possible.

Only when there are no legal penguins available can you take a penguin and place it in your pyramid by flipping it to the grey side.

Example: I’m faced with a tough decision – I have to choose between a heavy 3-weight penguin and a weightless 0-weight penguin for my pyramid. Unfortunately, I can’t add the 3-weight penguin, but I can definitely add the weightless one. So, the only choice for me is to take the 0-weight penguin.

Getting Things Done

When you play an Action card, it tells you what you can do:

• I can grab the Chief Penguin card. If others have played this card too, we’ll go in the usual order, clockwise. In the end, the last one to play this card gets to keep the Chief Penguin card for the next round.
• I can flip one of my penguins to the grey side. It can be the penguin I just took or one I already have, as long as it can still hold penguins on top of it.

Before I explain the rules of Penguinyramids, let me tell you about a few important things.

First, you have the option to exchange one of the available penguins with the top card from the deck before choosing a penguin on your turn. Just remember that the penguin you replace will go to the bottom of the deck.

Next, you can take back all of the Action cards you have played, including the one you just used, and return them to your hand. This way, you can reuse them later in the game.

You also have the opportunity to collect Strength tokens. These tokens can be placed on the arm of one of your penguins, giving it more strength. Each token increases the arm strength by 1. Keep in mind that you can do this at any time during the game.

Now, let’s talk about the Goal cards. There are 10 of them, but only 3 are revealed at the start of the game. These Goal cards indicate special conditions that, if met, can earn you additional points at the end of the game. So keep an eye on them and strategize accordingly.

The End of the Game

But that’s not all! We also have these cool Goal cards that players can fulfill throughout the game. Fulfilling a Goal card earns players some bonus points. And get this, multiple players can score points for the same Goal card.

So, how do we determine the winner? It’s simple! The player with the highest score takes home the victory. They’re the champ!

Now, what if there’s a tie? Well, in that case, we look at who has the Chief Penguin card. That person is crowned the winner. If nobody has the Chief Penguin card, then we look at who’s sitting closest to them in clockwise order. That person becomes the ultimate champion.
