Object of the Game
Hey there! Let me tell you about this exciting game: underwater exploration! With my team of divers, we venture into the depths to uncover sunken cities and gather valuable resources for our colony to thrive.
The goal is simple: be the most efficient player and earn the highest Prestige points. Once someone reaches 18 Prestige points on the Score track, the game concludes at the end of the round, and the player with the most Prestige points takes home the victory!
During the game, you can earn Prestige points in different ways:
- You can place the X Key token on any level, even if you don’t have a regular Key token available at that level.
- When you finish Step 3, flip the X Key token and place it on the Hacker track, just like a regular Key token.
- First, let’s talk about how Battery Tokens can boost our movement. During Step 1 of our dive, we have the option to spend 1 Battery Token. By doing so, we can activate our divers’ propeller, allowing us to move one of our diver tiles up or down a number of levels equal to or less than our maximum movement value. This value is determined by our Mechanic tile. And don’t worry about creating space for the moving diver tile – the other tiles will automatically shift to make room.
- Now let’s dive into Step 3. Here, we have another opportunity to utilize Battery Tokens. By spending 1 Battery Token, we can activate our diver’s oxygen reserve. This means that the activated diver won’t resurface immediately but instead slides back into its space. This can come in handy when we want to continue exploring without interruption.
- Cards that require a specific combination of resources
- Cards that require a specific number of different resources
I have a few tips for you when it comes to playing the game. First, let’s talk about contracts. Completing contracts is a great way to earn rewards. To complete a contract, you need to gather the necessary resources. It’s important to carefully choose which contracts you want to focus on, as some may be more rewarding than others.
Another way to progress in the game is to upgrade your diver’s equipment. As you level up, you’ll unlock new and better equipment that will help you dive deeper and explore new areas. Upgrading your equipment will make your dives more successful and increase your chances of finding valuable treasures.
You can also sell the resources you find during your dives to the Store. The Store will buy your resources and give you coins in return. You can use these coins to buy more equipment or upgrade your existing equipment. It’s a great way to make some extra money and keep progressing in the game.
Finally, let’s talk about Reward tokens. These tokens are worth Prestige points, which are used to unlock new features and areas in the game. You can earn Reward tokens by completing certain tasks or reaching milestones in the game. Make sure to use these tokens wisely to maximize your Prestige points and unlock all the exciting content the game has to offer.
So there you have it – some tips to help you succeed in the game. Remember to choose your contracts wisely, upgrade your equipment, sell your resources to the Store, and use your Reward tokens strategically. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a successful treasure hunter. Good luck and enjoy the game!
Getting Ready
Preparing Your Game Board
Hey there! Are you excited to learn how to set up your game board? I’m here to guide you through the process. Let’s get started!
First things first – we need to make sure your game board is all set up and ready to go. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Find a flat, spacious surface to place your game board on. It could be a table or even the floor. Just make sure there’s enough room for everyone to comfortably play.
2. Lay out the game board flat on your chosen surface. Take a moment to admire the beautiful artwork on the board. It’s like a window into a different world!
3. Now, let’s grab the player tokens. Each player will choose a token to represent themselves on the board. Make sure everyone has their own unique token. You can use anything from small figurines to game pieces – get creative!
4. Place the player tokens on the starting spaces indicated on the game board. These are usually marked with a special symbol or color. This is where your journey begins!
5. Finally, let’s set up any other pieces or cards that may be included with your game. These could be resource cards, action cards, or any other components that add extra layers of strategy to the game. Follow the instructions provided to place them correctly.
And just like that, your game board is all set up and ready for adventure! Take a moment to appreciate your hard work and get ready for an exciting game ahead. Good luck, and may the best player win!
1. I’m going to start by grabbing a player board in the color I want and put it right in front of me. This is going to be my search zone.
2. I’ll get a set of 5 Key tokens that match my color and place one token in each level space on my board. Each token has a number from 1 to 5, so I’ll put the token numbered “1” on level 1, the token numbered “2” on level 2, and so on. Then, I’ll take the X Key token that matches my color and put it in its space on my board.
3. I’ll grab a set of 2 Technician tiles. First, I’ll put the Mechanic tile on the right side of my player board. Then, I’ll place the Hacker tile below my player board on their starting spaces, just like in the picture.
4. Finally, I’ll grab a set of 8 different Diver tiles and randomly place each one on the Diver spaces of my player board. I’ll make sure to put them with their Basic side facing up, and slide them to the left.
And there you have it! I’ve set up my search zone with all the necessary components.
Alright, let me break it down for you. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Grab one resource of each color – just pick any one – and put them on the resource spaces in your search zone. Make sure to do this for every level, except for level 1.
Step 2: Now, it’s time to get some goodies. Take 3 Credits and 1 Battery token and put them near your player board. You’ll need these later.
Step 3: Oh, and don’t forget about the colony board setup. Here’s what you gotta do:
When it’s time to set up the game, there are a few important steps to take to ensure everything is ready for a successful adventure. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Start by placing the Colony board in the center of the play area. This board will be the central hub for all the action.
2. Take the Credit tokens, the Battery tokens, and all the resources and sort them into piles. These piles will form the supply that players can access throughout the game.
3. Next, gather all the Reward tokens and place them in a bag. Then, you’ll want to draw 2 tokens for each level of the board. Place these tokens faceup on their designated spaces on the Colony Display. These tokens will have an immediate effect on the game, so keep them handy!
4. To add some variety to the game, randomly place the 5 Sponsor tiles on the Colony Display. These tiles will be found to the left of the Colony board. Each Sponsor will bring their own unique abilities and benefits to the game, so choose wisely!
By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to an exciting game of strategy and exploration. Get ready to embark on your colony-building journey!
Note: Hey there! I wanted to give you some tips on how to play this game. The Sponsor tiles have two sides – Basic and Advanced. If you’re new to the game, use the Basic side. If you’ve played before, randomly choose which side to use for each Sponsor tile.
5. Grab two resources of the same color, then get one resource of a different color, and one more resource of a third color. Put them on the matching spots in the Store, starting from the top row. Let’s say you have 2 fuel, 1 metal, and 1 plant.
6. Now let’s set up the Contract cards. Shuffle them and put them face down to make a deck. Draw the top 3 cards and put them face up in the Contract card spaces above the board. Everyone can see these contracts.
If you’re playing with two people, just draw the top 2 cards instead.
7. Finally, grab the neutral X Key tokens and make a pile near the board.
That’s it for the setup! Now you’re ready to start playing. Good luck and have fun!
I’m here to explain how to play the game Otys. Let’s get started! You start by placing each player’s marker on space “0” of the Score track.
Important! Remember, you have an unlimited amount of resources, credits, and batteries.
Now, let’s talk about the game play. In Otys, you play the game over a series of rounds. During each round, players take turns in clockwise order. The player with the greatest lung capacity gets to be the First Player and starts the game. That player gets to keep the First Player marker for the entire game.
Now, it’s your turn! Here’s what you need to do when it’s your turn:
Step 1: Slide your Key token to the right so that it touches the Diver tile on the same level. If there is a Sponsor tile located on the same level on the Colony Display, you can immediately use its effect.
Step 2:
Keep on sliding the Key token, pushing the Diver tile to the right. The diver is now activated, so you can use its effect right away.
Step 3
Now, flip the Key token and put it below your player board in the leftmost empty spot on the Hacker track. This Key token can’t be used anymore. Then, your diver needs to come back up. Place the activated diver on the top level of your player board. You’ll have to move the other Diver tiles down to make room for it.
If you try to place a Key token and it would end up on or over the Hacker tile, return all your Key tokens to their original spaces on your player board. Make sure to flip them back over.
When I’m playing the game, one important thing I need to do is return any neutral X Key tokens to the supply – but I always keep my own X Key token on my player board. Remember, I can choose whether or not to use the effects of a Sponsor or Diver tile.
Step 1 – So here’s what I do: I choose my “1” Key token and slide it to the right. Now, there’s this Sponsor tile on the Colony Display that I could use to return one of my Key tokens to my player board. But this time, I decide not to use it.
Step 2 – After that, I slide my Key token to the right again. As I do this, it pushes the diver I want to activate – the Engineer. And guess what? I get to use the Engineer’s effect! I spend 1 Credit and improve my Mechanic skill. Now, my divers’ propellers can move a maximum of 2 spaces!
Step 3 – Now it’s my turn! I’ll flip my “1 Key” token and put it on my Hacker track. When it reaches the Hacker tile, I’ll return all my Key tokens back to my player board (I don’t have any neutral X Key tokens). And just to seal the deal, I’ll move my Engineer to the surface. Easy peasy!
X Key Tokens
Instead of using one of the Key tokens you have, you can choose to use an X Key token. You can use your own X Key token or a neutral one. When you decide to use the X Key token, you need to put it on your player board, to the left of the diver you want to activate, instead of following Step 1.
After placing the X Key token, you need to update the Colony Display. Move the Sponsor tile from level 5 to level 1, and shift all the other Sponsor tiles down one level.
Now you can use the effect of the Sponsor tile that is on the same level as the X Key token. After that, continue with Step 2 and Step 3 as usual.
Step 1 – So, I’m going to choose my X Key token to act as the “2” Key token that I’ve already used. I’ll just place my X Key token on level “2” and bam! The Colony Display gets updated right away. I’ll snag the Sponsor tile on level 5 and bring it down to level 1, pushing the other Sponsor tiles down as well.
By the way, I can also use the effect of the Sponsor tile on level 2 of the Colony Display. So, I think I’ll choose to return my “4” Key token back to my player board.
Step 2 – Okay, now it’s time to slide my X Key token to the right and activate my Fuel Expert. When I do that, I get to take 1 fuel (the purple one) from the supply and place it on a resource space on the Fuel Expert’s current level. Oh, and since my Fuel Expert is upgraded, I also get 1 Battery token. Score!
Step 3 – Okay, so here’s what I do next. First, I flip my X Key token and put it on my Hacker track. Then, I move my Fuel Expert to the surface. It’s like a little dance, but with robots!
Battery Tokens: A Powerful Tool For Divers
When it comes to underwater exploration, one thing is certain – diving technology keeps evolving. Today, I want to talk to you about an essential component of this technology: Battery Tokens. These small but mighty tokens play a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of divers like us.
Remember: You can use multiple Battery Tokens during the same step, giving us even more flexibility and control during our dive.
Now, let me illustrate how this works with an example. Imagine I’m Delphine, and I’ve chosen the “4” Key token in Step 1. As I slide it to the right, I activate the effect of the Sponsor tile on the same level of the Colony Display. The reward for this activation is an immediate gain of 1 Credit.
So here’s what happens next: I decide to use 1 of my Battery tokens to activate my diver’s propeller. Now, my diver can move up to 3 spaces. I move my Metal Expert down two levels, and then I shift the other divers up one space to make room for the Metal Expert’s tile.
After that, it’s time for step 2. I slide the Key token to the right, which activates my Metal Expert. This means I get to take 1 metal (the blue kind) from the supply and place it on a resource space that’s on the same level as my Metal Expert.
Finally, we’re at step 3. I finish my turn by flipping my “4” Key token and putting it on my Hacker track. And just before I end my turn completely, I spend 1 more Battery token to activate the Metal Expert’s oxygen reserve, so he doesn’t have to resurface yet.
Finish a Contract
You can complete a Contract as soon as you have gathered all the resources needed. These resources can be either in your hand (private contracts) or on the board (public contracts).
Completing a Contract doesn’t count as an action, so you can finish multiple contracts in the same turn if you can.
When you finish a contract, you immediately get the number of Prestige points shown on the card. This can range from 1 to 5 Prestige points, depending on the contract. Move your marker on the Score track accordingly.
Afterwards, return the resources you used back to the supply. If you have other resources on the same level of your search zone, leave them there. Finally, discard the completed Contract card. If it was a public contract, replace it with the top card from the deck.
Note: I want to tell you something important. The search zone has five levels, and each level goes deeper than the one above it. Each level has a different number of resource spaces, and the number of spaces increases as you go deeper (there are 3 spaces on level 1 and 2, 4 spaces on level 3, 5 spaces on level 4, and 6 spaces on level 5).
This means that more challenging contracts can only be completed at the deeper levels.
Step 1 – First, I choose my “5” Key token. I slide it to the right and use the effect of the Sponsor tile on the same level on the Colony Display. This instantly gives me 1 Battery token.
Step 2 – Next, I slide the Key token to the right to push and activate my Plant Expert. I take 1 green plant from the supply and place it on a resource space on the Plant Expert’s current level.
Now, I have gathered all the resources I need to complete a contract on this level. I return 1 blue metal and 2 green plants from this level back to the supply, and as a reward, I earn 3 Prestige points.
Step 3 – Finally, I end my turn by flipping my “5” Key token and placing it on my Hacker track. I also move the Plant Expert to the surface.
Contract Cards
There are two types of Contract cards:
Note: Some Contract cards have a one-time effect that you resolve immediately when you complete the contract. Depending on the card, you may gain 1 Credit, 1 Battery token, or 1 Credit and 1 Battery token.
Specific Combination
To complete this contract, you need to gather the resources mentioned on the card at the same level of your search zone.
Specific Number
To complete this contract, you need to gather the indicated number of resources at the same level of your search zone. You can choose any color of resources, but they must be different for each number required.
The Game Comes to an End
So, you’ve been playing and strategizing, and now it’s time to see who emerges victorious. When I reach or exceed 18 Prestige points on the Score track, we’ll finish the current round, making sure everyone gets the same number of turns. But here’s the kicker: the player with the most Prestige points will be crowned the winner.
In the event of a tie, we have a plan. The player who’s tied with others will take home the glory if they have the most resources left in their search zone. However, if there’s still a tie after that, it’s time to share the victory and play it out again!
Remember: Once the game ends, we won’t be gaining any more Prestige points for our Credits, Battery tokens, or leftover resources. It’s all or nothing!
