Getting Started

  • First, let’s sort the three different Card types into three separate piles. Remember to keep them face down.
  • Next, place the Tokens in a tidy pile in the center of the play area so that everyone can easily reach them.
  • Now it’s time to draw five Business Cards from the pile. Hold them in your hand or keep them face down to keep them hidden from other players.
  • Before we start playing, let’s decide how many rounds we want to play. If there are many players, one or two rounds may be enough. For smaller groups, you can aim for two or three rounds.

Playing the Game

You Are the Boss

As the game owner, I will be the first to play. I will roll the die and see what fate has in store for me. If I roll a 6, I will pick a Human Resources Card and read it out loud, following its instructions.

But if I roll a number between 1 and 5, things get interesting. I will take a Job Card from the stack, flip it over, and read it out loud to all the other players. Then, I will insert the special word that corresponds to the number rolled into the sentence.

The number I roll also determines the reward for the player who wins the job – the higher the number, the more money they receive! Here’s how it breaks down:

  • 1 = $10 (1 token)
  • 2 = $20 (2 tokens)
  • 3 = $30 (3 tokens)
  • 4 = $40 (4 tokens)
  • 5 = $50 (5 tokens)

Applying for the Job

Hey there! So here’s the deal: you and all the other players each have a set of Business Cards. Your goal is to convince the Client to hire you for a specific job. It’s a bit of a challenge because your Business Cards might not be a perfect match for the job, but it’s all about how you “sell” it!

Here’s how it works: the player to the right of the Client goes first. They pick one of their Business Cards and read it out loud. Now, they can stop there if they’re not sure how to convince the Client. But if they’re feeling confident, they can make a little argument or sales pitch about why they’re the best person for the job.

Once everyone has had their turn, it’s up to the Client to choose who to hire. The chosen player gets paid with $10 Tokens from the pile – cha-ching!

But here’s the twist: if you get hired, you have to put that Business Card at the bottom of the pile and pick a new one to add to your hand. So, keep an eye on your options and strategize wisely!

Hey there! Keep your Tokens close to you; our aim is to earn more than anyone else! Everyone else should hold on to their Business Cards for the next round.

The player on the right side of the Client becomes the new Client and gets to read a fresh Job Card. Then the game continues.

The End of the Game

When we finish the agreed number of rounds, the player who has the most Tokens (which means the biggest “paycheck”) wins!

You can take a break and enjoy a little “retirement,” or you can play again and try to win once more!

A Quick Note

If you’re playing with a lot of people or some players aren’t as confident in making sales pitches, don’t worry! You can play as a team in pairs.

An Example of How to Play

  • So, here’s the deal: I’m the Client, and I’ve got this Card and Die. I roll the Die and it lands on five. And just like that, I have a sentence with a blank that needs filling. The sentence says, “I need someone to sniff my spouse’s back hair. Can you help?”
  • Now, Mary comes in with her Business Card. She wants the job, so she “applies” by saying, “Hey there, I’m Petunia Planter. I’m a Gardener, and you know what they say, ‘all of my fingers are green!’ I work in gardens full of beautiful flowers. And let me tell you, my nose is as sharp as they come. I can sniff your spouse’s back hair and give you all the details you need. My nose knows it all.”
  • Ryan hands over his Business Card for the opportunity: “Petunia might be great at sniffing, but her nose usually enjoys pleasant floral scents. Now, I’m Precious Lodes, a School Bus Driver, and on my bus full of children, I encounter all sorts of odors! From PB & J sandwiches to body odor and even vomit, I’ve experienced it all. So, no matter how foul or unpleasant your spouse’s back hair may be, I am well-prepared to handle the job with efficiency and effectiveness.”
  • Now, it’s Tate’s turn to present his case: “I’m E. Z. Tapps, an App Developer, spending my days in a sterile office environment, where fragrances are virtually non-existent. My sense of smell is like a blank canvas, untouched and unaffected by any outside influences. Therefore, it’s ready and willing to tackle any scent without bias. Just point me towards your spouse’s back hair, and I’ll get the job done!”

I roll the dice and get a five. Jen laughs and agrees to hire me. She gives me $50 as payment since I rolled a five to start. Now, the person sitting to the right of Jen becomes the new client, and the game continues!
