Welcome to Noctiluca Solo Rules!
Noctiluca is a thrilling single-player game that lets you dive into the enchanting world of bioluminescent creatures. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the rules so you can start your solo adventure with confidence.
Objective
Your goal in Noctiluca is to collect the most valuable noctiluca dice by strategically placing your divers around the board. The more dice you collect, the more points you’ll earn!
Setup
To set up the game, follow these steps:
- Place the game board in the center of your playing area.
- Shuffle the deck of mission cards and place them face down.
- Randomly draw 6 mission cards and place them face up next to the board.
- Place the noctiluca dice in the provided bag and give it a good shake.
- Draw a number of dice equal to the number of players plus one, and place them on the corresponding spaces on the board.
- Give each player 2 divers and place them in the starting area.
Gameplay
On your turn, follow these steps:
- Choose one of your divers and place it on a space adjacent to the dice. You must pick up all the dice in that space.
- Place the collected dice on your player mat, making sure to match the colors to the available patterns.
- If you complete a pattern, mark it with a disc to score points at the end of the game.
- Take one of the mission cards from the display, replacing it with a new card from the deck.
- Pass the dice bag to the next player.
The game continues until there are no more dice left in the bag. At that point, each player takes one final turn, and then it’s time to tally up your points!
Scoring
Here’s how scoring works:
- Check each completed pattern on your player mat and score points according to the scoring track.
- Add any bonus points from completed mission cards.
- The player with the highest score wins!
Now that you have a grasp of the rules, it’s time to dive in and experience the mesmerizing world of Noctiluca. Happy gaming!
Hey there! Have you ever heard of Noctiluca? It’s a pretty cool game that you can play on your own. Imagine a peaceful pool of water, but something has disturbed its tranquility. Now, it’s up to you to rescue as many Noctilucas as you can before they get scattered by the troubled waters.
When playing Noctiluca solo, you follow all the same rules as the multiplayer version. However, there are a few changes you need to keep in mind:
Getting Started
Let’s get started! Here’s what you need to do:
1. Use the numbered board side. Make sure to choose this side of the board for our game.
2. Get the black die and put it near the board. We’ll use this die during the game.
3. Take only six pawns. Leave the other six pawns aside for now. We won’t need them right away.
Now let’s set up the cards:
1. Instead of splitting the jar cards into different piles, let’s mix them all together. Shuffle the cards well.
2. Place the shuffled cards near the board as a single deck. Make sure to place them facedown, so we can’t see what’s on the cards.
Finally, let’s set up the first player:
1. Take the first player marker and put it on the center space of the board. The marker should be pointing towards the purple section.
That’s it! We’re now ready to begin our game of… [GAME NAME]. Good luck!
How to Play the Game
Let’s get started! I’ll go first, and then it’s your turn. If you find yourself with noctiluca dice that you can’t place on your turn, don’t worry. Just put them beside the black die in the tempest. Keep in mind that for each noctiluca die you can’t place, you’ll lose some points.
When it’s time for you to take a new jar, there’s a little twist. Instead of simply getting a new jar, you’ll draw the top two cards from the deck. Then, you get to choose one to keep and place the other face-down at the bottom of the deck. It adds a bit of excitement to the game!
The Tempest
Here’s something interesting. After each of your turns, something called the tempest comes into play. The tempest startles the noctiluca and they scatter into the depths of the pool. It’s like they can’t resist the tempest’s power!
- To begin, I start by discarding the top card from the jar deck. Then, I take the point token that matches the color of the card (gold, brown, or red) and place it next to the black die in the tempest.
- Next, I check where the arrow is pointing on the board and roll the black die. Based on the number rolled, I remove all the noctiluca dice from the corresponding space and put them back in the box lid.
The End of the Round
Once the first round is over, I don’t remove any pawns from the board. Instead, I collect the six set-aside pawns, which I will use in the second round. The pawns I placed in the first round will block me from using those shores.
Don’t forget to flip the first player marker; during the second round, the arrow on the marker will rotate in the opposite direction.
Game Over
Let’s wrap up and see how you did! It’s time to add up your score and determine the winner. Just like in the multiplayer game, we’ll use the point tokens you have and the point tokens in the tempest to resolve majorities.
If the majority of point tokens of a certain color are in the tempest, that means those point tokens will be placed face down in the tempest.
Now, here’s the tricky part. You’ll lose points equal to the value of the point tokens in the tempest. Not only that, you’ll also lose one point for each noctiluca die that ended up in the tempest. Ouch!
But don’t lose hope! If your final score is one or higher, congratulations, you’re the winner! Otherwise, well, it’s time to try again. Good luck!
