If you ever come across an answer that you think doesn’t quite fit, no worries! You have options. You can discuss it with your friends and vote on it, or even look it up to settle the debate. Object of the Game

The goal of Name 5 is to be the first team to reach the Name 5 space and win!

Setup

To get started, follow these steps:

1. Split the cards into two piles and place them face down in front of each team.
2. Form two teams, with 2 or 3 players in each team.
3. Each team chooses a token to represent them in the game.
4. The team with the youngest player goes first. Their token is placed on the Start space on the Game Board.

Note: These instructions are for team play, but you can also play individually with two additional tokens included in the game.

When my team goes first, we roll the die and move our token the number of spaces rolled. It’s always exciting to see how far we’ll go!

Once we land on a space, one of us picks a card that matches the color of that space. The card has a Name 5 Challenge on it.

We have 30 seconds to answer the challenge by naming 5 things. For example, we might get a challenge like “Name 5 Orange Foods.” We can say oranges, cheddar cheese, carrots, pumpkin, and apricots. But sometimes, our answers might only partly fit the challenge. Like, we might say candy corn or peach cobbler since they have orange in them. As long as we can explain why our answers sort of make sense, that’s okay!

We’re allowed to give a little explanation, but we have to do it in the 30 second time limit. It’s tricky, but it makes the game even more fun and challenging!

During my turn, I can shout out answers as they pop into my head and keep track of how many I come up with. It’s really exciting to see how many I can name before the time runs out. If things start getting too loud and chaotic, we can assign one person to be the spokesperson and report the answers for the team. That way, it’s a bit more organized.

If my team manages to come up with five answers within the Name 5 category, we get to take another turn and roll the dice again. But if we’re not successful, it’s time for the next team to give it a shot. If the other team happens to be a team of NAME 5 “All Stars” and they successfully complete five rolls in a row, well, then it’s automatically their turn.

After each turn, we all return our cards to the bottom of the stack and grab new ones for the next round. It’s a fresh start every time!

Now, let’s talk about some special spaces on the game board.

Special Spaces on the Game Board

All Play:

Hey, did you know that the All Play symbol comes in two different colors? Pretty cool, right? So, here’s what happens: if your team happens to land on an All Play space, you get to pick one of the two colors that sits below the symbol. And get this, that color determines the Name 5 category you’ll be playing. But hold up, there’s more! The other team gets to play the Name 5 challenge that matches the other color on the space.

Now here comes the fun part. One player from each team gets to quietly read the card. And guess what? You won’t need a timer for this round, so no need to stress about time running out. Once both players have read the card and are all set, they go ahead and announce the category to their teams. And then, it’s game on! The teams race against each other to be the first to Name 5 things from their category. Talk about a nail-biter!

The team that manages to complete their Name 5 Challenge first is the winner, and they get to roll the die and take the next turn. But wait, there’s a twist. If neither team can complete the Name 5 Challenge, don’t worry. It’s not over yet. Both teams grab another card and give it another shot. May the best team win!

Note: Let’s try a fun twist on the classic game of All Play. Instead of naming five things, each team will only have to shout out one answer to their Name 5 challenge. The team that shouts out an answer first wins the round. If both teams shout out their first answer at the same time, they can keep going and shout out a second answer until one team emerges as the winner.

Flip Flop:

If my team lands on a Flip Flop space, we have to flip a card and see what Name 5 Challenge we need to do. The color on the space will tell us which Challenge we have to do. First, my team names one item related to the Challenge, then the other team names one, and then my team names another. We keep going back and forth like that until one team can’t name another item. When that happens, the team who named the last item gets an advantage – they get to roll the dice again and move that number of spaces. They also get to take the next turn.

Oh, and just a reminder: it might be a good idea to write down our answers on a piece of paper. If we give the same answer as another team, it doesn’t count.

And now for the Wild Challenge:

If you land on a Wild space, you get to choose the Name 5 Challenge you want to tackle. You have 30 seconds to think of 5 items for that challenge. If you succeed, your team gets to go again. If not, it’s the other team’s turn. Ready? Let’s go!

Double Down:

If my team lands on a Double Down space, we get a special chance. I can read all of the Name 5 Challenges on the card and choose 2 Challenges to name all 5 items in 30 seconds. We start the timer and I have to name the items. If we’re successful, we get to roll the die and move double the number that comes up. But if we fail, it’s the other team’s turn.

The End of the Game

When my team’s token reaches the end of the board, we have to roll the exact number of spaces needed to reach the Name 5 space in the center of the board.

If we roll a higher number, we have to play the Name 5 Challenge that matches the color of the space our token is on. If we complete the challenge, we earn another roll. When we finally roll the exact number needed to land on the Name 5 space, we get to take a card.

We have 90 seconds, which is two turns of the timer, to complete all of the Name 5 Challenges on the card. If we can do that, we win Name 5!

If I fail, it’s the other team’s turn. But on my next turn, my team gets to pick another card and have another go. Oh, and just a little reminder: that white arrow isn’t a space, so we can’t land on it or count it.
