Monster My Neighbour Game Rules
Hey, have you ever played the Monster My Neighbour game? If you haven’t, let me tell you all about it! This game is super fun and exciting, and I’ll explain the rules to you.
It’s a game where you and your friends are trying to collect as many points as possible. But, beware, there are also monster cards lurking around that can make you lose points!
Here’s how you play:
1. Set Up: Start by shuffling the deck of cards and dealing 5 cards face down to each player. These are your “houses”. Then, place the rest of the cards in a draw pile, face down.
2. Objective: The goal of the game is to have the most points at the end. You earn points by collecting different types of cards.
3. Gameplay: Take turns, starting with the youngest player. On your turn, you can either draw a card from the draw pile or take a card from another player’s house.
– If you draw a card from the draw pile, add it to your hand.
– If you take a card from another player’s house, replace it with one card from your hand. This is called “trading houses”.
4. Monster Cards: Watch out for those tricky monster cards! If you draw a monster card, you lose points. The number of points you lose depends on the monster card’s value.
5. Special Cards: There are also special cards in the game that can help you or hinder your opponents. For example, you might find a card that lets you steal cards from other players or a card that allows you to skip your turn. Use these cards strategically to gain an advantage!
6. End of the Game: The game ends when all the cards have been drawn from the draw pile. At that point, players count up their points. The player with the most points wins!
So, now that you know the rules of the Monster My Neighbour game, gather your friends and get ready for a thrilling game night! Remember, be strategic, watch out for those monster cards, and have fun!
Imagine playing a thrilling game where some players are hunters and one player is a mysterious monster. The twist? The monster’s identity keeps changing, making it challenging to determine who is who.
During the game, each player takes turns being a hunter or the monster. In one moment, you could be a skilled hunter trying to capture the elusive creature, and in the next moment, you could transform into the monster, evading capture.
What You’ll Need
To play this game, you’ll need a few things:
- 38 cards
- 40 tokens
- a rule book
Getting Started
Okay, let’s get this game going! First, shuffle the 5 Monster cards and put them aside, face down, to form the Monster deck. Don’t peek! Now, place the Victory Point (VP) tokens next to the Monster deck. Nice and close. Lastly, take the remaining cards and make a deck out of them. We’re all set!
Setting Up the Round
Let’s get started! Here’s what you need to do:
- Grab one Hunter card, one Hide card, and one Wanted card from the deck. These will be the cards you start with.
- Now, shuffle the remaining cards in the deck. The number of cards you’ll need depends on how many people are playing:
3 | 8 |
4 | 12 |
5 | 16 |
6 | 20 |
7 | 24 |
8 | 28 |
Alright, here’s what you need to do:
First, grab a card from the Monster deck and add it to the starting deck. This completes the starting deck, but remember, only three cards were taken out in the previous step, so those are the only ones known.
Quick note: Don’t mix up the Monster deck and the general deck!
How to Play
Round Overview
- The round starts with the player who has the Wanted card in their hand. Play that card – its only purpose is to determine the starting player.
- Now, take turns in a clockwise order. Each player plays one card per turn, placing them in front of themselves.
- The round comes to an end when either the Monster card is played or a Hunter or Dog card forces it to be discarded. (Check out the details below for more information on this.)
- Finally, it’s time to score!
Note: This game has a limit of 4 turns per player, so each round will be short.
Rules of the Game
- Monsters can only be played on the final turn of a round.
- Hunters cannot be played on the first turn of a round.
- The colored numbers on some cards remind you of these restrictions:
- You cannot play them during the turn (in this case, the first turn).
- You can play them during the turn (in this case, the first turn), but they won’t have an effect.
- You can play them during the turn (in this case, the third turn) if the condition is met.
- You can play them during the turn (in this case, the fourth turn).
- If a card’s effect contradicts the rules, the card’s effect takes priority.
- Depending on the card that caused the discarding, cards are placed in different locations to help players keep track:
- If discarded by the Friend effect, place the card at the bottom of the main deck.
When you’re playing the game, there are a few special cards you should be aware of. One of them is the Monster card. If you play this card, you automatically win the round! It’s important to remember that you can only play the Monster card on your last turn of the round, or if a special condition is met.
Another special card is the Hunter. If you make another player discard the Monster card using your Hunter, you also win the round! However, there are some cards that can protect the targeted player from your Hunter, so be cautious. Just so you know, you’re not allowed to play the Hunter card during the first turn of a round.
And finally, we have the Dog card. If you make another player discard the Monster card using your Dog, you win the round! So keep that in mind when it’s your turn.
But here’s the thing you need to know about playing the Dog: when you play it, the other player gets to choose which card to discard. That means you’ll probably only catch the Monster with the Dog if it’s the last card they have.
Friend
When you play a Friend card, you become friends with the monster. You win or lose the game together!
If a player is forced to discard the Monster because of a Friend card, it’s called a Friend’s Betrayal. In that case, the Friend loses the game too!
Note: Friend cards that haven’t been played don’t do anything.
Hide
The Hide card, and some Monsters, let you ignore any effects from Hunters as long as you have it in your hand. These cards stay hidden when you use them.
Note: Hide won’t protect you from the Dog’s discard effect!
Scoring
(at the end of each round)
If the Monster card is played successfully, Monster & Friends gain 2 VP. If the Monster card is discarded, the player who forced its discard gains 2 VP, while everyone else (except Monster & Friends) gains 1 VP. If a Friend card forces the Monster card to be discarded, everyone (except Monster & Friends) gains 1 VP. Remember to take the necessary VP tokens as a reminder.
Now, let’s talk about the next round. In the next round, all the cards used in the previous round are put back in the general deck, except for the Monster card, which is set aside. So, in the next round, we start with a new Monster card.
Finally, let’s discuss the end of the game. The game concludes after the scoring of the 5th round. The player with the most VP wins the game. It’s as simple as that!
