Welcome to the Mint Works Game Rules!
Hey there! I’m excited to guide you through the rules of Mint Works, a super fun game that will keep you entertained. Let’s dive right in!
Goal
The goal of the game is to accumulate the most points by building and managing your mint factory.
Setup
First, place the mint board in the center of the playing area. Each player receives 5 meeples, a reference card, and 2 starting mints. Shuffle the mint cards and distribute 3 to each player. Then, shuffle the location cards and place 4 face-up next to the mint board. The remaining mint cards and location cards form their own decks.
Gameplay
In Mint Works, the game is played over a series of rounds. Each round consists of the following phases:
- Assign Meeples: Players take turns assigning their meeples to location cards or the mint board. Each location card has a specific action that can be taken.
- Take Actions: Starting with the first player and going clockwise, players take turns resolving the actions of the location cards they assigned their meeples to. Each action can help you gain resources, build more mints, or earn victory points.
- Refresh: After all players have taken their actions, any remaining meeples are returned to their owners, and the used location cards are discarded. New location cards are then revealed to replace the discarded ones, and a new round begins.
The game continues until either the mint deck is empty twice, or a player fills all their factory slots. At that point, the final round is played, and scores are calculated.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players earn points based on the mints they built, their factory upgrades, and any bonus points from location cards. The player with the most points wins!
Conclusion
That’s it! You’re now ready to embark on your Mint Works adventure. Have a great time playing and may the best mint factory owner win!

Let’s Talk About Locations
Plans
Hey there! Let’s talk about plans. I know we all make plans for different things in our lives. It’s interesting how a simple plan can have such a big impact on our future. Plans can help shape our goals, guide our actions, and give us a sense of direction. They can be exciting and motivating, but they can also be challenging and unpredictable.
Now, let’s dive into why plans are so important. Plans give us a roadmap to follow. They help us stay organized and focused on what we want to achieve. Without a plan, it can be hard to know where to start or what steps to take. It’s like trying to find your way in a maze without a map.
When I make a plan, I like to break it down into smaller tasks. This makes the overall plan feel more manageable and allows me to celebrate small victories along the way. It’s like putting together a puzzle – each small piece contributes to the bigger picture.
Another great thing about plans is that they can be flexible. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes our plans need to adjust accordingly. By having a plan, we can adapt and make changes as needed. It’s like having a compass that helps us navigate through uncertain times.
However, it’s important to remember that plans are not set in stone. Sometimes we need to be open to new opportunities and willing to make adjustments. It’s like being on a treasure hunt – you never know what you might stumble upon along the way.
So, my friend, next time you find yourself with a goal or a dream, make a plan. Break it down into smaller steps, stay flexible, and be open to the unknown. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve when you have a clear vision and a plan to guide you. Now go out there and start planning – your future is waiting for you!
Getting Started
When we set up the game, we need to place the four (4) Core Locations on the table where everyone can reach them. Each player can look at the side that matches the number of players we have.
Next to the Core Locations, we put the two (2) Deed Locations. These show a ‘closed’ side.
If we want to make the game more challenging, we can also pick two (2) Advanced Locations at random and put them next to the Core Locations.
We shuffle all the Plans and stack them face down near the Locations. This forms the Plan Deck.
Now we draw three (3) Plans and put them face up next to the Plan Deck. This creates the Plan Supply.
Hey there! Let me break down what happens with the Mint Tokens. They’re placed close to the Plan Supply, creating what we call the Mint Supply. When it’s time to get started, each player will take tokens from the Mint Supply.
Oh, and here’s a fun twist! The super fresh breath champion gets the honor of holding the Starting Player Token. So make sure to brush those teeth and freshen up before the game begins!
Once everything is ready, the play area will resemble the diagram above.
Keep in mind: The Mint Supply is unlimited. If you happen to run out of Mint Tokens, you can always grab some from the Supplier without leaving any spaces empty.
Keywords
Neighborhood
Your Neighborhood is the space in front of you. This is where you have control over the Mint Tokens, Plans, and Buildings that are in your possession.
Plan
Plans are cards found in the Plan Deck, Plan Supply, and facedown in players’ Neighborhoods. When you build a plan, it becomes a Building.
Building
Buildings are Plan cards that are face-up in players’ Neighborhoods.
Gain
When you gain something, it means taking it from the appropriate supply and placing it in your Neighborhood.
Lose
When your Plan gets lost, it’s put face down at the bottom of the Plan Deck. Any lost Plans are returned to the Mint Supply.
Playing the Game
The game consists of two phases: the Development phase and the Upkeep phase.
Development
You start the game by holding the Starting Player Token and taking the first turn.
On your turn, you have two options: you can either Place a card or Pass. After you make your choice, the turn passes to the next player in a clockwise direction.
The Development phase continues until every player consecutively passes, which marks the end of this phase. Then, it’s time to proceed to the Upkeep phase.
Place
When playing the game, I get to choose and occupy an empty Mint Placement Space. Afterwards, I have to place the required amount of on the chosen space, which will then give me the special effect associated with that Location.
Now, let’s talk about the Pass action. If I choose to Pass, my turn ends. However, on my next turn, I’ll have the option to choose between Place and Pass again. It’s like taking a break and then deciding whether I want to keep playing or take another break.
During the Upkeep phase, there are a few things that happen. First, if any player has seven or more Buildings in their Neighborhood, the game ends, and it’s time for Scoring. Second, I need to refill the Plan Supply with three face-up cards from the Plan Deck. If I can’t fully fill the Plan Supply, then the game also ends, and Scoring takes place. Lastly, I have to resolve all the “Upkeep” effects on my Buildings. It’s important to make sure everything is in order before moving on to the next phase.
If there are any images on Deed Locations, the Owners of those Locations gain the indicated amount of Mint Works from the Mint Supply. Return all Mint Works on Locations to the Mint Supply. Each player gains Mint Works. Proceed to the next Development phase.
End of the Game
Hey there! Today, I want to talk to you about a really cool trick involving counting. We’re going to figure out how much money each player makes from the buildings in their neighborhood. How cool is that?
So, here’s what you need to do. Take a look at the buildings in your neighborhood and count how many of each type there are. You might have a few shops, a couple of houses, and maybe even a park or two. Write down the number of each type of building.
Once you’ve got your counts, it’s time to get down to business. Now, each type of building earns a different amount of money. For example, a shop might earn $100, while a house only earns $50. You’ll need to look up the earnings for each type of building and write them down.
Next, take your counts and multiply them by the earnings for each type of building. So, if you have 3 shops and each shop earns $100, you’ll multiply 3 by 100 to get $300. Do this for each type of building.
Finally, add up all the earnings from each type of building. This will give you the total amount of money each player earns from their buildings in the neighborhood. And there you have it!
Now, I know this might sound a little confusing at first, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it’s actually a lot of fun. Plus, it’s a great way to practice your math skills!
So, why not give it a try? Grab a pen and paper, count up those buildings, and let’s see how much money each player is raking in!
Imagine this – the player who has the most outstanding Neighborhood is declared the winner! Simple, right?
But what happens when there’s a tie? Well, in that case, the player with the smallest Neighborhood, which means fewer Buildings and Plans, is the ultimate champion!
If two or more players are still tied after considering all the other factors, then the player who has won the most games will come out on top.
Are you still in a dead heat? If that’s the case, the player among the tied ones who is closest to the age of 42 will take the crown!
