Megaland Game Rules

Welcome to the world of Megaland, where adventure and excitement await! In this game, I’ll guide you through the basics so you can get started on your quest to become a legendary hero. But first, let’s go over the rules and mechanics.

Megaland is a cooperative game, which means we’ll all work together to achieve our goals. The objective is to collect as many treasures as possible while avoiding dangerous encounters. Are you ready to begin your epic adventure? Let’s dive in!

In Megaland, I’ll be your trusty guide. As we explore the different levels of the game, I’ll provide you with valuable information and tips to help you make the best decisions. Together, we’ll navigate through treacherous dungeons, face fearsome creatures, and collect valuable loot.

Each turn, you’ll have a choice to make. You can either enter a new room or return to the village. Exploring new rooms will bring you closer to treasures, but it also comes with risks. You see, every room has its own set of challenges and dangers. Some rooms may contain valuable items, while others may be home to deadly monsters.

When you enter a new room, I’ll reveal a card that describes the room’s contents. Pay close attention to the information on the card, as it will help you decide whether to proceed or retreat. Remember, your goal is to collect treasure, so choose your actions wisely!

To complete a level and move on to the next, we need to find the key card. This card is hidden within one of the rooms, so we’ll have to explore and take risks to find it. Once we have the key, we can make our way to the exit and move on to the next level.

But beware, my friend. Megaland is a dangerous place, and you’ll encounter many obstacles along the way. Some rooms may require you to use your resources wisely, while others may challenge your wits and strategic thinking. Don’t worry, though – I’ll be right there by your side, guiding you through every step of the journey.

Remember, teamwork is the key to success in Megaland. We must collaborate and communicate to overcome any challenges that may come our way. Together, we’ll conquer the dungeons, defeat the monsters, and gather the treasures that await us.

I want to explain the different parts of this game’s setup. First, we have 10 Level Cards. Then, we have 5 Player Cards followed by 96 Treasure Cards. Getting Ready to Play

Ok, so here’s what you need to do to set up the game. First, gather all the star buildings and line them up in the middle of the play area. Make sure they’re face up, and keep each type of star card in its own pile.

Next, you’re gonna choose seven types of normal building cards from the seventeen available. Arrange them in a row below the star buildings, with each type having its own pile. Keep these cards face up as well. Now, if you’re playing for the first time, try to pick a set of buildings that includes at least one of each cost, from one to five, in the upper-left corner. This will give you a good variety to start with. But remember, in future games, you can mix it up and choose different combinations.

Once you’ve set up the cards, it’s time to shuffle the level cards and place them in a face-down pile. Don’t forget to put the level tile next to the deck, so you can easily keep track of the levels.

Lastly, gather the heart tokens, jump tokens, and coins, and place them next to the play area. Keep the heart cost card nearby as a reference. These items make up the supply, which you’ll use throughout the game.

Alright, here’s what we’re gonna do:

First, we shuffle the treasure cards and put them in a pile, face-down.

Next, we give each player a character and a player card. Oh, and don’t forget to hand them four heart tokens, which they need to place on the “heart” side of their card.

Now, the player who last played a video game gets the first-player token. Nice!

And now, my friend, we are ready to dive into the action!

So, what’s the goal?

Listen up! In Megaland, you don’t come for power-ups, but for coins! You’re on a mission to explore each level and find treasures that will help you build a thriving business in Megaland City. But beware – don’t push your luck too far, or you’ll lose everything! The game ends when someone reaches 20 coins, and the player with the most moolah takes the prize!

How do we play?

Alright, here’s how it goes:

The game is divided into rounds, and each round has three phases.

Phase 1: Run The Level

Ready to go for a run? Get your character ready for action by placing your character token on the level tile. Then, draw a treasure card and place it above your player card. No need to wait your turn; all players can place their characters and draw treasures at the same time.

After each player has placed their character token and drawn a treasure, the first player picks the top card from the level deck and reveals it next to the level tile.

Whenever a skull appears on the card, all players whose characters are still on the level tile will suffer damage! To take damage, simply move one heart token to the right side of your character card where it says “Injury”.

Imagine you’re playing a game called Megaland. It’s a fun and exciting adventure where you collect treasures along the way. Let’s talk about the treasure cards and how they work.

In Megaland, you’ll find treasure cards during your journey. These cards represent the treasures you’ve gathered in the game. You keep them in a special place called the level above your player card, like a treasure box. You can think of it as your own personal collection.

But here’s the catch: if you fall during the game, those treasures are gone. When I say fall, I mean if you lose all your hearts on the heart side of your player card after taking damage. It’s like losing a life in the game. When that happens, you have to say goodbye to all the treasures you’ve collected so far. They vanish into thin air.

Speaking of the treasure box, there’s something special about it. When you draw the treasure box card, everyone gets a bonus. Each player immediately draws one extra treasure card. It’s like getting a little extra luck on your side. Who doesn’t love that?

So remember, as you’re venturing through Megaland and collecting treasures, keep them safe above your player card. And watch out for falling! If you lose all your hearts, those treasures will disappear. But if you happen to draw the treasure box, you’ll get a nice little boost. It’s all part of the thrilling adventure of Megaland. Let the treasure hunting begin!

When you’re playing the game, it’s important to know what to do when you reach a new level. Let me explain.

Next Level Card

After you finish resolving the current level card, you have a choice. You can either stay on that level or return home. Here’s what happens in each scenario:

If You Stay in the Level

If you choose to stay on the level, leave your character where they are and draw one treasure. Once everyone who’s staying has drawn their treasure, it’s time to draw the next level card and take care of any damage that may occur. Keep repeating these steps until nobody remains on the level.

If You Return Home

If you decide to go back home, take your character off the level tile. If you have any treasures that were placed above your player card, move them below the card to keep them safe. Then, wait until all the other players have returned home before moving on to the next phase. You won’t take any damage or collect any treasures once you’re back home.

When I finish playing, phase 1 comes to an end and all the players go back to their homes.

Phase 2: The Buying Process

Now it’s time to buy some building cards! We will take turns, starting with the first player and going clockwise. During our turns, we can use the treasures we have collected to purchase building cards from the center of the table.

Get Your Own Building

When I consider the idea of purchasing a building, I am filled with both excitement and apprehension. The thought of owning a physical space that I can call my own is incredibly intriguing. But I also recognize that this decision comes with its fair share of responsibilities and challenges.

First and foremost, I must carefully assess my need for a building. Am I seeking a space for personal use or for a business venture? Understanding the purpose of the building will help me determine its size, location, and layout. It will also enable me to envision how the building will contribute to my overall goals and aspirations.

Finances are a crucial aspect to take into account when contemplating the purchase of a building. Not only do I need to consider the initial cost of acquisition, but I also need to factor in maintenance, repairs, and other ongoing expenses. It’s essential to assess my budget and ensure that I have the financial means to not only purchase the building but also sustain it in the long run.

Additionally, I must evaluate the condition of the building and any potential issues it may have. Conducting a thorough inspection will help me identify any necessary repairs or renovations, allowing me to estimate the costs involved. It’s important not to overlook crucial details like the building’s age, structural integrity, and compliance with local regulations.

Choosing the right location for my building is paramount. I want to ensure that it is easily accessible to me and the intended audience. The surrounding neighborhood, transportation options, and proximity to necessary amenities are all factors I need to consider. A prime location can significantly impact the success and convenience of using the building for my desired purposes.

Acquiring a building also means taking on the role of a landlord, if I decide to rent it out. This involves dealing with tenants, lease agreements, and potential legal matters. I would need to familiarize myself with landlord-tenant laws to protect my rights and uphold my responsibilities. Renting out the building can provide a steady stream of income, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and potential risks.

Lastly, I must consider the long-term implications and potential benefits of purchasing a building. Will it appreciate in value over time, or will it require constant maintenance and repairs? Will it support my goals and aspirations as they evolve in the future, or will it become a burden? Evaluating the long-term prospects of the building is vital to ensure that it aligns with my overall vision and objectives.

In conclusion, contemplating the purchase of a building is an exciting yet complex decision. By carefully assessing my needs, finances, building condition, location, and long-term goals, I can make an informed choice. Acquiring a building can be a transformative experience, presenting opportunities for personal and professional growth. But it also requires substantial research, planning, and preparation to navigate the challenges that come with it. So, if you’re considering buying a building, remember to approach the process with enthusiasm, diligence, and an eye towards the future.

When it’s my turn, I can buy as many buildings as I can afford. Each building has a different cost, which you can find in the top left corner of the card.

For example: Let’s say I want to buy a Lodge. It costs 4 treasures. I can pay 1 carrot, 1 stone, 1 crystal, and 1 egg, but I can’t pay 2 carrots and 2 stones, or any other combination like that.

Once I buy a building, I discard the right number of treasures and put the new building next to my player card to show that it’s mine. Some buildings give me an immediate reward, while others give me special abilities that I can use throughout the game.

Buying Hearts

On my turn, I can also buy extra hearts. The cost of hearts is listed on the heart cost card.

How to play Megaland Official Rules UltraFoodMess

To get a heart, you have to pay matching goods. You begin with 4 hearts. If you want to buy a 5th heart, it will cost you 2 matching goods. And if you want a 6th heart, you’ll have to pay 3 matching goods, and so on.

For instance, let’s say Tom buys a 7th heart. He would need to pay 4 carrots.

When you pay with treasures, remember to place them in a discard pile, face up, right next to the treasure deck draw pile. If the draw pile ever runs out, just shuffle the discard pile to create a new draw pile.

Once all players have had their turn to buy, we move on to phase 3.

It’s important to note that you can only buy one of each building type per turn. For example, you cannot buy four “Sandwich Stand”s in one turn. However, you can buy four of them if you purchase only one each round.

Now, let’s move on to phase 3: Night.

First up is the First Player.

How to play Megaland Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When we start playing, the first player gives the first-player token to the player on their left. And just like that, that player becomes the first player.

What to Do with Treasures

Every night, you must get rid of all your unused treasure cards. But there’s a little trick – if you own a building, you can keep one treasure per building. Just put it under the building to show that you’re “storing it in the basement.”

Look for the Moon Symbols

Now it’s time to pay attention to the buildings’ abilities with a “moon” symbol. Those abilities kick in right now.

For example: Let’s say Tom owns the Lodge. During phase 3, Tom gets 2 coins. And guess what? In the next round, during phase 3, Tom gets 2 coins again. It keeps happening each round.

Resetting Hearts

We all reset our hearts. Move any hearts from the injured (right) side of your player card to the heart (left) side, replenishing them for the next round.

Shuffling the Level Deck

Gather all the level cards that have been played and shuffle them back into the level deck. Each night, this deck should have ten shuffled and face-down cards, ready for a new level.

The End of the Game

When the night phase ends, if a player has 20 coins, the game is over. Count the coins of each player, and the one with the most coins wins! If no one has reached 20 coins yet, the game goes back to phase 1.

Building Cards

Jump Tokens

How to play Megaland Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! Let’s talk about jump tokens and how they can help you out in a level. So, before you draw a level card, you have the option to use a jump token. If you decide to go for it, simply return the token to the supply and declare that you’re “jumping”.

Now, here’s the cool part. If the next level card you draw has a jump symbol in the top left corner, you don’t take any damage from that card, no matter if it’s a level 1, 2, or 3. It’s like you dodged the bullet! But, if the card doesn’t have a jump symbol, well, there’s no special effect for you this time (bummer). Oh, and by the way, you’ll still lose the jump token even if it doesn’t do anything in that case.

Example: I say I’m going to jump before the next level card is drawn. I give back a jump token. The card is the Sludge Monster, but I don’t get hurt by it.

Trade with the Rabbit

If you’re playing the level and the rabbit card gets drawn, you have a chance to trade with the rabbit. You can offer the rabbit some carrots in exchange for new goods.

When you come across the rabbit, you can choose to get rid of exactly 3 carrots. In return, you get to draw 3 new treasures from the deck. However, there’s a catch – you still get hurt. The rabbit bites you before the trade! If the rabbit makes you fall, you can’t trade carrots.

Do you know what makes this rabbit unique? It has a special preference when it comes to carrots – it likes them, but only when they’re served in sets of three!
