Hey there, welcome to the frozen world of MammuZ! Get ready to embark on a thrilling adventure in search of squirrels, saber-toothed tigers, mammoths, and yes, even dinosaurs! Wait, dinosaurs don’t exist anymore? Think again!

Guess what, my friend? In this game, dinosaurs are here to stay! MammuZ is an awesome card game designed for 3 to 7 players, aged 8 and above. And guess what? Cheating is totally allowed, officially!

What You’ll Need

  • In my hand, I have 2 mammoth cards.
  • There are also 3 bear cards.
  • I’ve got 4 deer cards.
  • And don’t forget the 5 saber-toothed tiger cards.
  • Oh, and I can’t leave out the 6 hare cards.
  • There are also 7 squirrel cards.
  • I even ended up with 8 gopher cards.
  • Plus, I somehow ended up with 9 mouse cards.
  • Just to keep things interesting, there are overview cards.
  • Lastly, there are 6 dinosaur cards.

Let’s Play!

Okay, let me explain how we play. The goal is to be the first one to get rid of all your hand cards. There are two ways you can do this. You can either lay out your cards, and guess what? You can cheat as much as you want! Or, if you want to take the honest route, you can discard complete species. It’s up to you – there’s no right or wrong way.

Getting Started

When you play the game, you’ll need to follow these rules for the number of players:

# players Animals cards to be removed Dinosaurs in play Cards in play Hand cards per player
3 Mice and gophers 3 30 10
4 Mice 5 40 10
5 Mice 5 40 8
6 4 48 8
7 5 49 7

In the game, depending on how many players there are, we remove certain animal cards from the game. These animals are listed in the table above.

Then, I shuffle the 6 dinosaur cards and draw a number of cards according to how many players there are. The dinosaur cards that aren’t needed are taken out of the game.

Next, I shuffle all the remaining cards in play and deal them out evenly to all players. It’s important to make sure everyone has an equal number of cards.

If you put the overview cards of the species in play next to each other in the middle of the table, with the colored side facing up, you’re ready to start the game.

Playing the Game

Starting a Round

The person who saw a dinosaur last gets to be the starting player and begins the first round. They choose one species for this round and place 1 to 4 cards face down in front of them.

This will be their current display, which they use to start a herd. They claim that they only played animal cards of this species. However, they might actually have playing cards of different animals in their display. Cheating is allowed.

For example: I say, “These two animals are saber-toothed tigers.”

Now it’s your turn, and you can challenge what I said or add to the herd. If you challenge, you think that I’m lying about the animals. If you want to add to the herd, you believe that what I said is true, and you want to add more cards to the display.

A. Challenging the Display

If you don’t believe me and want to challenge my statement, you can say, “I challenge!” If you do challenge, we turn over the cards in my display. If I was lying and there are no saber-toothed tigers, then I get a penalty. But if I was telling the truth and there really are two saber-toothed tigers, you get the penalty instead.

#image.jpg

Player 2 says, “I’ve got three more saber-toothed tigers.”

Then it’s the next player’s turn, going in a clockwise direction. They can choose to either add more cards to the group or question the previous claim.

Listen up: A group includes all the cards played in a round.

Pay attention: The number of cards in a group can be higher than the actual number of animal cards from that species. This is a sign that someone may have cheated.

B. Questioning the previous claim

If I don’t trust what the previous player said, I can look at their cards. I pick one card from their group and turn it face-up. There are three possible outcomes:

I wrongly doubted the previous player.

So, here’s the deal: when one of us plays a card that matches the species we’ve all agreed is the herd for this round, that player’s gotta snatch up the whole herd. They add it to their hand, and then it’s the next player’s turn to start a fresh round with a brand-new herd. Got it? Good.

You’ve nailed the challenge.

So here’s the deal: if the card doesn’t match the species that was declared as the herd for this round, guess what? You gotta take the whole herd into your hand. That’s right, it’s all on you. And once you’ve taken on that responsibility, the next round starts with a brand new herd.

Now check this out: when the card is flipped and it reveals a dinosaur, things really get interesting.

When a card with a dinosaur appears, you have to do something with it (check the list below to see what you should do). Then, you can add the dinosaur card to your hand and start a new round with a different group of dinosaurs.

Brontosaurus

Imagine this: you’re playing a game with your friends, and it’s your turn. The player before you just played a Brontosaurus card. Now, it’s up to you to gather all the Brontosaurus cards into your hand. Sounds easy, right? Well, there’s a catch – you have to take the entire herd of Brontosaurus cards. It’s a big responsibility, but also a lot of fun!

Pterosaurus

Hey there! Let me tell you all about the amazing Pterosaurus! This incredible creature is also known as the “winged lizard.” How cool is that?

So, picture this: you’re the active player, and it’s your turn to interact with these magnificent creatures. Your task is to round up the entire herd and bring them into your hand. Imagine the excitement and challenge of capturing these flying wonders!

Now, Pterosaurus might sound like a big, fancy word, but let me break it down for you. “Ptero” means “wing,” and “saurus” means “lizard.” Put them together, and you have a flying lizard! Isn’t that incredible?

These creatures have been around for millions of years. Can you even fathom that? They lived during the time of the dinosaurs and were the rulers of the skies. It’s mind-boggling to think about how massive and awe-inspiring they must have been!

Now, here’s the thing about Pterosaurus: they’re not like regular lizards that crawl on the ground. Oh no! They’re airborne, baby! These creatures had wings and could soar through the sky. Talk about an incredible sight!

But capturing an entire herd of Pterosaurus is no easy task. It requires skill, strategy, and a deep understanding of these magnificent creatures. You need to think like them, anticipate their movements, and guide them gently into your hand.

Imagine the exhilaration of holding a whole herd of Pterosaurus in your hands. Feeling their delicate wings, witnessing their beauty up close – it’s an experience unlike any other!

So, my friend, if you’re up for an adventure and want to immerse yourself in the world of Pterosaurus, give it a try. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Good luck capturing these winged wonders!

I’m going to rewrite the provided text, but first I need to take the entire herd into consideration.

When I’m the active player, the first thing I do is shuffle the entire herd. Then, I start dealing the cards to each player, one by one, starting from the player on my left. Once everyone has their cards, it’s time to take them into our hands.

Discovering the Plesiosaurus

So here’s the deal: when we start playing, we don’t look at what everyone else is doing. We just take all the cards from the herd and put them in the middle of the table. Simple enough, right?

Now, it’s my turn to add a new species to the herd. Gotta keep things interesting! So I pick a card and throw it in. The game keeps going like this, with each person adding to the herd.

But here’s the catch: when it’s someone’s turn to pick up the new herd, they have to take the old herd too. Yeah, it’s a little tricky, but that’s what makes it fun!

Tyrannosaurus Rex

All the dinosaurs in this group are taken out of the game. I sort the cards by species and place them face up under the corresponding overview card(s).

Here’s the thing: From now on, I only need to have the remaining number of cards for a species to make it “die out” (see Becoming extinct).

Becoming Extinct

If, at any time while we’re playing, I have all the cards of a species in my hand, I show them to you and put them on the corresponding overview card.

Then, I flip the pile over so that the brown back of the overview card is showing. That species is now extinct and, as a result, out of the game. (But wait! There’s a special case with Tyrannosaurus Rex).

#image.jpg
Look at these cool cards with the extinct bear and saber-toothed tiger!

Hey there! Did you know that dinosaurs never actually became extinct? That’s right, even if you have all the dinosaurs in your hand, they’re still alive and kicking!

Listen up: If you get to take several turns in a round, just slide your old display up a bit for a better view. Then, put your new cards below your current display. You can only challenge the cards in your current display, though.

The Game Comes to an End

When I lay down my final cards in front of me, we have to see if the game is over. You, the next player, have to challenge what I’ve played. Here’s what could happen:

  1. If the card I reveal matches the species I declared, the game ends right there and then. I win!
  2. If the card I reveal doesn’t match the species I declared, I have to take all the cards into my hand and the game keeps going.
  3. If the card I reveal shows a dinosaur, its action gets carried out. If, after that, I still have no cards in my hand, I win the game.

The game can also end if another player discards their last cards because a species goes “extinct.” If that happens, they win instantly.
