So, what exactly is Lucidity? In simple terms, Lucidity is a game that allows you to dive into the realm of dreams and unravel the mysteries that lie within. It’s like stepping into your own personal virtual reality, where the laws of physics and reality are bent to your will.
But Lucidity goes beyond just being a game. It’s an experience unlike any other. It challenges you to think creatively, to push the boundaries of your imagination, and to question the nature of reality itself. It’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, wrapped in a captivating and mind-bending adventure.
So, how does it all work? Well, the rules of Lucidity are simple. As you navigate through the dream world, you’ll encounter various challenges, puzzles, and obstacles. Your goal is to overcome these challenges using your wits, creativity, and imagination. Think outside the box, break the rules, and embrace the unexpected.
One of the key aspects of Lucidity is the concept of lucid dreaming. Essentially, lucid dreaming means being aware that you are dreaming while you’re in the dream. This state of awareness gives you incredible power and control over the dream world. You can shape the environment, summon objects and characters, and even alter the very fabric of reality.
But lucid dreaming is not just about having fun and playing with the dream world. It’s also a powerful tool for personal growth and self-improvement. By exploring your dreams and unraveling their hidden meanings, you can gain insight into your own subconscious mind, unlock hidden talents and abilities, and work through emotional challenges.
So, are you ready to dive into the world of Lucidity? Are you ready to challenge your mind, expand your imagination, and explore the depths of your own consciousness? If so, grab your imagination, buckle up, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Lucidity awaits!

The Game’s Goal
At the end of the game, the person with the most Power (represented by and dreams) wins, regardless of whether they are a Nightmare or a Dreamer.
Setting Up
First, each of us chooses a Dreamer card and places it multiplayer-side up in front of them.
The multiplayer side of a Dreamer card is the side with the Power row along the bottom edge. The other side is meant for the single-player variant.
Hey there! Let’s get started playing this awesome game together. First, I’ll explain how to set up the game.
Each of us will need a sleep marker and a summary card. Next, we’ll place four primary Nightmare cards – Depths, Envy, Imprisonment, and Primeval Fear – in the middle of the table. Don’t worry, both sides of these cards are the same.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. You have the option to replace either the Envy or Primeval Fear Nightmare with the Nightmare of Temptation. You can choose whether to use the green or red side of the Temptation Nightmare. This adds a fun twist to the game, but it’s recommended for experienced players.
We’ll need the 80 dice, also known as dreams, for the game. Let’s put them all in a bag and give it a good shake to mix them up nicely. The bag will be within everyone’s reach throughout the game.
Now it’s time to decide who goes first. The player who had the most recent bad dream gets the honor. And from there, we’ll take turns going clockwise.
So, what will we be doing on our turns as dreamers?
Well, I’m glad you asked! Here’s how it works:
1. Choose a Sleep Track
When I start a new turn, I get to choose how far I want to dive into my dreams.
2. Draw and Choose Dreams
First, I’m going to pick a few dreams from the bag. I’ll take out as many dreams as the number shown under my sleep marker. After that, I’ll select two dreams from the ones I drew and put them back in the bag.
Remember: The summary card tells me which faces are on each color of dream.
- The Depths: These dreams will completely consume me.
- Envy: These dreams give and take Power quite easily.
- Imprisonment: These dreams will make me end my turn earlier than expected.
- Primeval fear: These dreams come with high risks, but also high rewards.
3. Roll and Deal with Dreams
Next, I’ll roll the dreams that are left in the bag, and then I’ll handle them by matching the symbols I roll to the spaces on my Dreamer card.
Rerolling Dreams: You have the power to change your dreams. Whenever you want, you can use one of your dream cards to reroll any dreams that share the same color. Just take a card from your power row that matches the color of the dreams you want to reroll. Place that card on the Nightmare card that matches its color, or put it back in the bag if that Nightmare has already been claimed by another player.
Order of Resolution
To keep things organized, it’s important to resolve your dreams in a specific order:
- First, resolve any dreams that have a green symbol in the corner.
- Next, take care of any dreams with a blue symbol.
- Then, it’s time for dreams with a yellow symbol.
- Finally, address any dreams with a red symbol.
- Make sure to follow this order every time you resolve your dreams.
Power
Here’s how you play Lucidity. Place a tile in your Power track. The tile counts as two points. Don’t forget to leave a gap in your row to show this. Next, indulge in the thrill of the hunt.
First things first! Drop that item in your Hunt row.
Make sure to use it efficiently
We all know the feeling – you come across an item that seems so promising. The possibilities it holds, the potential it carries. It’s incredibly tempting to jump right in and start using it, without a second thought. But before you do, take a moment to think.
Why is it important to use your items wisely? Well, let me break it down for you:
- Longevity: When you use an item carefully, making the most of its features and capabilities, it lasts longer. Think of it like a battery – the more you use it, the quicker it drains. But if you use it wisely, conserving its power when you don’t need it, it will last much longer.
- Effectiveness: Every item has its purpose and its unique strengths. When you take the time to understand these strengths and use them to your advantage, you get the best results. It’s like having a secret weapon that no one else knows about.
- Opportunity Cost: Using an item unnecessarily or inefficiently means missing out on other opportunities. Instead of using it where it can have the greatest impact, you waste it on tasks or situations where it’s not needed. And who wants to miss out on great opportunities?
So, next time you find yourself with a new item in your hands, make a plan. Consider how you can make the most of it, both in terms of longevity and effectiveness.
Here’s what you can do:
- Read the instructions or user manual to understand how the item works.
- Experiment with different settings or features to find the best fit for your needs.
- Ask for advice or tips from others who have used the same item before.
- Take care of the item, cleaning and maintaining it regularly to ensure it stays in top condition.
Remember, the item you have is a tool, and like any tool, it’s up to you to make the most of it. So, be intentional in your use, and let it be a valuable asset in your journey.
Hey there, let’s talk about placing your Exhaust row. It’s an important aspect of the game that you should know.
Shadow
Here’s a little tip for you: if a row is full, just place any extra dreams of the same symbol next to it. And don’t forget to apply Shadow effects. They can be pretty cool, you know?
In a two-player game, there’s something interesting. The fourth space in the Shadow rows is only used for that.
Shadow of the Depths
When I reach into the bag and draw a random dream, I roll it and add it to my list of unresolved dreams. However, if it’s not a dream of Envy, I have to resolve it before I can move on to any other dreams.
Shadow of Envy
Now it’s your turn. Choose any dream from my Dreamer card, except for a dream of Envy. I’ll reroll that dream and add it to my unresolved dreams. Once again, if it’s not a dream of Envy, I have to resolve it before moving on.
Shadow of Imprisonment
If I have any dreams in my Exhaust row, I can rotate one to its other side. This doesn’t move the dream, just changes its orientation.
Shadow of Primeval Fear
Hey there! Let me explain how to play the game Lucidity using simple words. Remember, this is all about having fun!
1. Moving Dreams
So, on your Dreamer card, choose any dream in any color and move it to your Hunt row. Easy peasy, right? But don’t rotate the dream, just move it.
2. Checking for Filled Rows
Now, let’s see if any rows on your Dreamer card are filled, but in a specific order. Here’s how:
Hunt Row
If you have four or more dreams in your Hunt row, you’re done for, my friend! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You’ll have to return all your dreams to the bag. Oh, and no more turns for you. But hey, you still count as the “next player” for certain cool stuff.
Exhaust Row
If you have three or more dreams in your Exhaust row, you’re exhausted, just like after gym class. But don’t worry, it’s not permanent. You get to draw one random dream from the bag. Once you’ve done that, put it back in the bag, along with any and dreams of the same color that are in your Power row. And voila, you’re good to go!
I can’t dream again if I’m tired. I need to rest and take a break. But even when I’m resting, there’s a chance I might become a Nightmare.
Becoming a Nightmare
If I have three or more dreams in any Shadow row (or four or more in a two-player game), I become a Nightmare. I’ll become a Nightmare of the same color as my most filled Shadow row. If there’s a tie, I can choose between the tied colors.
I need to return all the dreams on my Dreamer card, except for and , back to the bag.
When you encounter the matching Nightmare card, I want you to place it right on top of your Shadow rows. Then, I want you to gather all the and symbols on that card and add them to your Power row. Finally, you can end your turn. From now on, whenever it’s your turn, you will be playing as a Nightmare.
Once you become a Nightmare, you will need to remove all dice from your game, except for the ones in your Power row. Keep this in mind as you continue playing.
5. Rest or Dream Again
If you’re tired or finished with a sleep session, you have two choices: rest or dream again.
Rest: When you rest, you can regain some control over your dreams. You can return either one or all of your dreams on your Dreamer card back to the bag. Then, it’s the end of your turn.
Dream Again: If you want to take a risk, you can choose to dream again. This allows you to gain more insights, but be careful because you’ll start losing control. Move your sleep marker one step further along the Track. But remember, you can’t switch Sleep Tracks.
Let’s go back to the “Draw and Select Dreams” step, but this time, we’ll need to draw even more dreams than before.
Note: You have two chances to take a risk on each turn before you have to take a break.
Order of Play (Nightmare)
If you have claimed a Nightmare card, you are now considered a Nightmare. Nightmares are different from Dreamers.
During your turn, you have two options: Consume Power or Send Minions to attack a Dreamer.
Consume Power: Take one or of your color from any player’s Power row (whether they are a Nightmare or a Dreamer) and add it to your own. Then, end your turn.
Send Minions: Draw two dreams randomly from the bag. Keep one dream and give the other one to a Dreamer player. They must roll the dice and deal with the dream immediately. Then, end your turn.
The Terrifying Powers of Nightmares
Whenever you, as a Dreamer player, decide to resolve specific symbols on a dream that matches your color (as shown on your Nightmare card), something frightening happens. You snatch that dream away, transforming it into a shadowy manifestation and adding it to your Power row. But that’s not all – you also have the option to unleash a special ability.
Each Nightmare card specifies which symbols you claim as your own, and grants you access to unique powers you can unleash. Since each Nightmare claims dreams of its own color, there will never be two Nightmares of the same color.
The Game Comes to an Eerie End
After each of my turns, I check if any player (Nightmare or Dreamer) has 15 or more Power. You can tell if a player has reached this level by looking for the and symbols. If this condition is met, all the remaining Dreamer players get one last turn before the game comes to an end.
When the game is over, the player (whether Nightmare or Dreamer) with the most Power wins. The number of Power points a player has is determined by the , which counts as + . The winner is either the one who has escaped the dream world or the one who has become the most powerful Nightmare and consumed all the others.
If, at any point, there are no Dreamers left in the game, it immediately ends, and the Nightmare with the highest Power wins.
The “Worst Case” Rule: If I ever have more dreams than I’m supposed to, you can choose the extra dreams that I have to give back to the bag.
After that, I have to roll or reroll the dreams. If I give back more than two dreams to the bag, you can pick dreams of any color from the bag and put them in their place.
Once I give a dream back to the bag, I can’t change my mind and take it back out again.
If there are no dreams left in the bag, I finish my turn and roll any remaining dreams. Then, the player with the most Power wins.
Two Player Games
In a game with only two players, we become Nightmares if we fill all four spaces in a Shadow row.
