Welcome to the Kanagawa Yokai Game!
Hey there! Have you ever played the Kanagawa Yokai Game? Well, if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat! Let me fill you in on all the important details. But first, let’s talk about the rules.
So, the game is set in Kanagawa, a beautiful city in Japan. In this game, I’ll be guiding you through the city, where you’ll encounter various Yokai, which are mythical creatures from Japanese folklore. Your goal is to capture as many Yokai as possible and create the most impressive painting to earn points.
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of the game rules. To start, you and the other players will each have a personal board, where you’ll be creating your paintings. On your turn, you’ll have three choices: draw a Yokai card, play a Yokai card, or pass.
If you choose to draw a Yokai card, you’ll add it to your collection. These cards depict different Yokai creatures with unique abilities that can help you in the game.
If you decide to play a Yokai card, you’ll follow the instructions on the card and place it on your personal board. This is where the strategy comes into play. You’ll need to carefully choose which Yokai to play and where to place them on your board to create a harmonious and balanced painting.
But be careful! The Yokai cards have symbols on them that can trigger events. These events can affect both you and the other players, so choose wisely!
Lastly, if you think you’ve done enough for now, you can choose to pass. This means you won’t draw any more cards or play any more Yokai cards. The other players, however, will have a chance to take another turn before the round ends.
The game consists of several rounds, and at the end of each round, you’ll evaluate your painting. You’ll score points based on the Yokai cards you’ve played and their arrangement on your board. And remember, the more diverse your painting is, the better chance you have of earning more points!
After several rounds, the game will come to an end. The player with the most points wins and becomes the master Yokai artist!
So, are you ready to embark on this artistic Yokai adventure? Trust me, it’s going to be a blast! Get your paintbrush ready and let’s unleash our creativity in the Kanagawa Yokai Game!
Hey there! I’ve got something really cool for you today. Have you played Kanagawa before? If you have, then you’re going to love the Yokai expansion. It’s like an extension pack that adds even more excitement to the game. You’ll need the base game to play, but trust me, it’s totally worth it!
Hey there! Let me tell you something cool. When you paint kites, lanterns, and umbrellas in your prints, you can earn new diplomas. How awesome is that? The Mischievous Yokai
Let’s talk about the Yokai tokens! These sneaky spirits can be quite tricky. They have the power to grant you a Diploma during the game, but be careful! If you don’t deal with them in time, they can snatch away your hard-earned points at the end!
Lively Lessons
Hey there! Let me tell you about the Lesson cards in this game. They’re like the cards you already know, but with a twist! There are 3 new Main Subjects to explore: Kites, Lanterns, and Umbrellas.
What’s cool is that these new cards can introduce some interesting Yokai into the game, or give you a way to banish them from play. It’s all about finding the right strategy!
Now, let’s talk about the Diploma Tiles.
Hey there! I want to tell you all about these 11 awesome tiles that you can get. They include 10 Diplomas that are connected to the Main Subjects of the new cards, plus 1 special Diploma that’s all about the Yokais.
Getting Started
When you’re setting up the game, everything is pretty much the same as the regular version, but there are a few small changes:
Let’s start by picking out four sets of Lesson cards that you want to play with. Choose two sets from the base game and two sets from the expansion. Don’t forget to put the remaining cards back into the box.
When you’re playing the Yokai game, start by placing the Yokai Diploma tile next to the other Diploma and Studio tiles. Then, choose the Print Diploma tiles that match the Main Subjects of the Lesson cards you want to use and sort them by color, just like the base rules say. Remember, you should only have 4 categories of Print Diploma in use for this game.
When you’re playing the game, you’ll need to place the Yokai tokens next to the Brushes that are still available for the players to use.
How to Play
A New Yokai Arrives
When you find a new card with the symbol like this , you have to take one of the Yokai tokens from the pile and put it in front of you. It doesn’t matter if you decide to put the card in your Print or your Studio.
If there are no tokens left in the pile, you can choose one from another player.
How the Yokai Moves
Hey there! When you see this icon in your Studio, it means something exciting is about to happen. You get to give one of your Yokai to one of your opponents. It’s like a special trade-off between you and them. But wait, if you don’t have any Yokai, then this symbol doesn’t do anything. So make sure you have some Yokai hanging around before you try to use it later.
Let’s talk about the Diploma tiles
Just like in the base game, you have a choice at the end of your turn – take a Diploma or leave it. But here’s the exciting part, some of these Diploma tiles have unique powers. They add a little extra something to the game. How cool is that?
Imagine this: you have collected all 3 Yokai tokens. That’s an impressive feat, and it deserves recognition. Well, with this Diploma, you’ll get just that.
Having all 3 Yokai tokens in front of you grants you a gain of 4. It’s like a reward for your hard work and dedication. And here’s the best part: even if, in the future, you no longer have all 3 Yokai tokens, this Diploma will still be with you.
It’s a symbol of your achievement, a reminder of the time and effort you put into collecting those tokens. So hold onto it, cherish it, and let it serve as a testament to your success.
If you have at least 3 yellow Kites in your Print, you’ll acquire 3 points and 1 Brush. It’s that simple!
When you have 3 or more blue Kites in your Print, you can gain 4 and then give one of your Yokai to another player. It’s like a trade, where you’re getting something and giving something in return. But instead of money or toys, you’re giving away one of your Yokai. It’s a way to help out another player and maybe even make their game better.
If you have 2 or more red Kites in your Print, you will receive 5 points and the Assistant pawn.
If you have at least 7 Kites in your Print and they can be of different colors, you’ll receive a total of 6 points and 1 Storm token as a reward.
You can earn 3 points if you have three cards in your Print with one Lantern on each of them.
Imagine this: you have a set of cards, and each card has a beautiful lantern on it. If you have two cards that both have two lanterns on them, you get four points. It’s as simple as that!
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to have an abundant supply of cards in your Print? Well, I’m here to tell you that if you have 3 cards with 1, 2, and 3 Lanterns respectively in your Print, you can gain 6! It may sound like a puzzle, but it’s actually a really cool strategy that can help you in the game.
If you have 2 Umbrellas on one or more consecutive cards in your Print, you’ll get 3 Yokai and then give one of them to another player.
If you have 3 Umbrellas on one or more consecutive cards in your Print, you’ll gain 5 and the Assistant pawn.
If you have 4 Umbrellas in a row on your Print, you’ll get 7 points. It’s important to note that if a card has more than one Umbrella, they are considered consecutive. So, even if you have just one card with two Umbrellas, it still counts for the Umbrella diplomas.
Game Over
The game will end just like the base game, with one difference:
Hey there! So, guess what? Those tricky little Yokai spirits are up to no good again! Those sneaky creatures just love to steal your hard-earned points. I mean, seriously, can you believe it? You work so hard, and they just swoop in and snatch them away. It’s like playing a game of hide and seek, but instead of finding hidden treasures, you’re losing points. Not cool, Yokai, not cool at all.
Now, when it’s time to do the final count and see who came out on top, you need to take those annoying Yokai tokens into account. Every one of those pesky tokens you have in front of you means subtracting points from your total. Yeah, I know, it’s a bummer, right?
But hey, don’t let those Yokai get you down! Keep your wits about you, and remember that every game has its challenges. It’s like a test of your strategic skills, and you’ve got what it takes to outsmart those sneaky spirits. Stay focused, keep your eyes on the prize, and show those Yokai who’s boss. You’ve got this!
