- I have 35 stock cards divided into 5 colors.
- I also have 29 money cards with specific values: $1 (10 cards), $2 (5 cards), $5 (6 cards), and $10 (8 cards).
- In addition, I have 2 wild cards.
- The last item is the instructions that come with the game.
Goal of the Game
The objective is for me to compete against my opponent to earn the most money by wisely buying and selling stock cards. I will buy cards at their original price, or “face value”.
From there, for every two cards of the same color that I can sell, I will calculate the value of the two cards multiplied together. My aim is to sell the cards at the highest possible price, while at the same time preventing my opponent from doing the same.
The ultimate winner of the game will be the person who has earned the most money by the end of the game.
Getting Set Up
- To begin, I will separate the deck into two piles based on the back design of the cards.
- I will then remove the two multi-colored wild cards and place one face up in front of each player.
I’m going to give you step-by-step instructions on how to play a fun card game called Ka-Ching! Let’s get started.
First, shuffle the deck of 35 stock cards, which have a grey back. Lay them out face up in the middle of the playing area, arranging them in five columns of seven cards. Make sure to overlap the cards like shingles, with the numbers clearly visible.
Next, each player needs to be dealt money cards totaling $20. You’ll receive 5 one-dollar cards, 1 five-dollar card, and 1 ten-dollar card. Keep your money cards hidden in your hand throughout the game.
Now, sort the remaining money cards by their value and use them to form the bank. Place the bank within easy reach of both players.
To help you visualize the game, here’s a sample starting layout:

Now that we’re set up, we can start playing Ka-Ching! The person who was paid most recently gets to go first, and then play alternates between players. On your turn, you have two options:
1. Buy the last unobstructed stock card from any column. This means you can purchase the card at the end of a column that doesn’t have any other cards covering it.
2. Draw a new money card from the bank. This will give you more funds to use in the game.
Repeat these steps until all the stock cards have been purchased. The game ends when there are no more stock cards left to buy.
Remember, the objective of Ka-Ching! is to have the highest total card value in your possession at the end of the game. So choose your purchases wisely and try to outsmart your opponent!
Have fun playing Ka-Ching!
When playing the Stock Market Game, there are two key actions you can choose from on each turn. First, you can sell two stock cards of the same color from your collection. This means that if you have two blue cards, for example, you can sell them to earn some points or currency in the game. Second, you can buy one stock card. This means that you can add a new card to your collection by purchasing it with your points or currency. It’s important to note that you must take one of these two actions every turn. So, make sure to strategize and decide whether you want to sell or buy cards based on what will benefit you the most in the game.
When playing this game, you can only purchase the last unobstructed stock card from any column. Just imagine you have a picture to give you an idea of what I mean. Essentially, you can only buy the card that is at the very bottom of each column, with no other cards covering it. The cost of a stock card is equal to the value printed on the card itself, so a card with a value of 5 will cost you $5.
To buy a stock card, simply select the card you want and place it face up in front of you. Don’t forget to pay the bank the corresponding amount of money for that card. It’s important to note that the purchased cards need to remain face up in front of you, so that both players can see who owns what.
Selling Two Cards of the Same Color
When it’s my turn to sell cards from my collection, I can only sell two cards of the same color. The money I get for selling the cards is determined by multiplying their values.
To sell the cards, I need to choose two cards and say how much I want to sell them for. Then I take the money from the bank. After that, I put the cards face down in a discard pile.
Let me show you an example. If I sell a red 4 card and a red 5 card, I will get $20 from the bank. I paid $9 for the cards, so I make a gain of $11.
What about the Wild Card?
If you want, you can sell your 2 wild cards and any colored stock card that you bought, but you can only do this once during the game.
For example, let’s say you sell your 2 wild cards along with a yellow 3. You would earn 2 x 3 = $6. Remember to place both cards in the discard pile.
Game Over
The game comes to an end when there are only two columns of cards left in play. When this happens, each player has one final opportunity to sell two stock cards of the same color, if they can.
Any extra stock cards that you still have are worthless. Count up your money and compare totals. The player with the most money is the winner.
Variations
Here are a couple of variations you can try:
- Play an odd number of rounds, like three or five. The first player to win the majority of rounds is the overall winner. Make sure to alternate starting players each round.
I have a fun game for you to play called “Money Madness.” Here’s how it works:
First, decide how many rounds you want to play. It could be 5, 10, or any number you choose. Make sure to write down each player’s money total at the end of each round.
Next, gather all the players and explain the rules. Each player will start with a certain amount of money, let’s say $10. At the beginning of each round, everyone will place a bet. They can bet any amount they want, but it can’t be more than the amount of money they have.
Once everyone has placed their bets, it’s time to roll the dice. Each player will take turns rolling the dice and adding up the numbers. For example, if they roll a 3 and a 5, their total for that round would be 8.
Here’s where things get interesting. If the total is an even number, the player gets to add that amount to their money total. But if the total is an odd number, the player has to subtract that amount from their money total. It’s a double-edged sword!
Keep playing rounds and recording everyone’s money totals after each round. The player with the most money at the end of all the rounds is the winner!
So gather your friends, set a number of rounds, and get ready for some Money Madness. Have fun!
