Hey there! Let me tell you about this super cool variant mode of play designed specifically for four players. It’s just like the regular game, but with a few special twists:

New Setup Rules

  • First things first, pick a scoring token to represent your team and put the other one away for now.
  • Next, sit right next to your teammate and make sure your gates are together on the winter side of the board.
  • Place a Team Storage card right between you and your teammate.
  • Now it’s time to choose the starting team. The starting player will be the one sitting on the left side of the starting team. So, the turn order will go like this: Team 1, Team 2, Team 2, Team 1 – going clockwise.
  • When it’s time to draft the trolls, everything is as usual, but the starting resources should go into the team storage. Oh, and just so you know, there are no bonus starting resources for where you are in the turn order.

New Gameplay Rules

Hey there! Guess what? You don’t have to worry about using the personal storage areas on your player mats. They’re just there for show, really. Whenever you get any resources, they automatically go into team storage. Isn’t that convenient?

Now, when it’s your turn, you can spend resources from your own trollsmoot or from team storage, or even a combo of both. What you can’t do is spend resources from your partner’s trollsmoot. That’s off-limits.

But here’s the cool part. This limitation actually opens up new strategies for you. You can use your workshops to move resources from your trolls to team storage. And why would you want to do that? Well, because then your partner can benefit from those resources too!

Oh, and one more thing. While you start your network at your own gate, you can totally connect it to your teammate’s. Yep, you heard me right. You two can be tunnel buddies! When your networks are connected, you can treat your teammate’s network as if it were your own. It’s like having double the power and options. Pretty awesome, right?

So, when it’s time to find some trolls to recruit, we take the Pedestals and put them in our team storage. Then, when we get a chance to use a pedestal, it comes right out of the team storage.

Now, here’s the cool part. The honor that we earn during the game and at the endgame, both from ourselves and our opponent, gets added up and scored with that shared team score marker we talked about earlier. And here’s the thing: each statue and great hall that we have only gets scored once. It doesn’t matter if our networks are all connected at the end of the game. Just that one score for each thing. And whoever has the most honor on their team, they win!
