Supplies:

Grab your favorite set of colored markers, pencils, or crayons, along with a few sheets of paper. You’re all set!

Gameplay:

1. Start by drawing a random squiggle or shape on your paper. This will serve as your doodle’s foundation. Let your hand guide the pen – there are no wrong answers in doodling!

2. Next, take turns with your friends or family members to add something to the doodle. It can be anything – a creature, a plant, an object, or even an abstract design. Get as creative as you want!

3. After each person adds their contribution, take a moment to admire the evolving doodle. Discuss what you see in the artwork and let your imagination roam free.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as many times as you like. The doodle will transform and grow into something amazing with each new addition.

Setting Up

First, place the Topic Cards in the center of the table. Then, scatter the Number Tokens (the 9 black tokens) into another pile in the center of the table. Make sure the Number Tokens are face-down, so you can only see the hashtag sign.

Now, each player will get their own set of 9 colored Guessing Tokens, one Doodle Sheet from the pad, and one pencil.

Lastly, players have the option to take a Scoring Reference Card as a helpful reminder on how to score.

Alright, so here’s the deal. We need someone to be the “host” for this game. This lucky person gets to pick the Topic Card for each round, keep track of the time with the 30-second sand-timer, and kick off the voting and scoring. Basically, they’re in charge for the whole game. Sounds pretty cool, right?

We’re playing a total of 9 rounds. That should keep us entertained for a while!

Just a little tip: we should all try our best to fit our doodles inside the right box on the Doodle Sheet. Yeah, we know the space is small, but we did our best to fit the biggest pad we could in there!

How to Play the Game

First, I, as the “host,” will choose a Topic Card and read aloud three words that are related. I’ll place the card where everyone can see it.

Now, it’s time for you and the other players, including myself, to select a Number Token from the middle pile. Look at the number on your token, but keep it a secret by placing it face-down on the table. This number will determine the word you will be doodling from the Topic Card.

Once everyone has their tokens, I will start the sand-timer. Now it’s time for each player to start doodling! Try your best to draw your word in a way that others can guess what it is. Remember, you can’t use any letters or numbers in your doodle. I know, it adds an extra challenge to the game!

Hey, let’s get doodling! We’ve only got 30 seconds, so we’ll have to draw as fast as we can. Once the sand-timer runs out, we’ll have to stop doodling right away.

Time to Guess

Now it’s time to put our guessing skills to the test. We’ll use our Guessing Tokens to show which word we think the other players have doodled.

To do this, we’ll place a Guessing Token that matches the word we think someone else doodled. We’ll put it face-down next to their black Number Token. We’ll do this for every player.

Remember, we can only place one Guessing Token per doodle, and we can’t place one on our own (that would be silly!).

During this stage, we can’t give any hints or try to trick others. Some may find it hard not to show off their cleverness or talk about the drawings.

But seriously, let’s put a stop to it – there’s plenty of time after every round for us to brag about how awesome our doodles were, or how we cracked the code on someone else’s masterpiece.

By the way, if you don’t feel like taking a guess on a doodle, you totally don’t have to. Wondering why? Well, let me explain how the scoring works. You see, for every wrong guess, you lose a point. Ouch!

So, here’s what happens next: once all players have finished putting down their Guessing Tokens, we can start tallying up the scores. Exciting, right?

Scoring

Scoring can be confusing, so you need to be careful. You are in charge of keeping track of your own scores, so it’s important to be honest.

Starting with me as the “host,” each player will reveal the word they doodled by flipping over their black Number Token. Then, we will flip over the Guessing Tokens to see what everyone else guessed.

Here’s how points are awarded:

Points for the Guesser

• I’ll get +1 point if my guess is correct.
• I’ll lose 1 point if my guess is incorrect.

Points for the Doodler

• If nobody guesses my doodle correctly, I’ll lose 2 points.
• I’ll earn +1 point for each player who guesses my doodle correctly.

End of the Game

The game will end after we play all 9 rounds. Each player will add up their total points from each round, and the player with the most points will be the winner!

Hey there! It’s super important to keep track of your points in the game. Don’t worry, though – you can always refer to the Scoring Reference Card if you need a reminder.

After each doodle, make sure to jot down your points in the shaded column on your Doodle Sheet. The points can be positive or negative, so keep an eye out!

Once the entire round is done, it’s time to tally up your points. Add up all the points in your column and write the total in the TOTAL box.

Now, it’s time to move on to the next round. Score the doodles in a clockwise direction around the table. And remember to return the black Number Tokens to the center pile when you’re done with the round.
