Gameplay
To start the game, you’ll need a deck of Hoagie ingredient cards. Each card represents a specific ingredient, such as lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, or pickles. The game is played in turns, with each player taking a card from the deck and placing it on their hoagie board. As the game progresses, the hoagies will become more elaborate and delicious!
Building Your Hoagie
When it’s your turn, you have two options: you can either add a new ingredient card to your hoagie board or swap an ingredient card from your hoagie with one from the deck. Choose wisely, as each ingredient has its own point value, and some ingredients may complement each other better than others. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavors!
Earning Points
Throughout the game, keep an eye out for bonus points. These can be earned by creating special combinations of ingredients or by matching certain ingredient types. For example, if you have three different types of meats on your hoagie, you’ll earn bonus points. The more creative and strategic you are, the more points you’ll score!
Game End
The game ends when all the ingredient cards have been used and each player has completed their hoagie. Once the final hoagies are assembled, it’s time to score! Points are awarded based on the quality and variety of ingredients, as well as the overall presentation of the hoagie. The player with the highest score is crowned the hoagie champion!

Playing the Game
Hey there! Let’s dive into the fun and exciting world of this game. I’ll show you how to play so you can become a master in no time!
First things first, winning the game is all about creating the perfect sandwich. To do that, you need to have five ingredient cards in a particular order, with each one facing up on the table.
The order should go like this: bread, meat, cheese, lettuce, and bread. Make sure they’re placed side by side, from left to right. That’s the secret to victory!
So, the challenge is to gather those ingredient cards and arrange them just the right way. It might sound simple, but it can get pretty tricky!
Now that you know the basic rules, it’s time to dig in and start playing. Have a blast and may the best sandwich maker win!
Let’s play a game! We’ll take turns going around the table in a clockwise order. Each turn has 2 parts.
First, choose a card from your hand and play it. You can do one of the following:
- First, you’ll want to start your sandwich by playing a fresh ingredient card in front of you. If you have a spoiled ingredient card in your sandwich, simply replace it with a fresh one of the same type. And if you want to cause some mischief, you can spoil one of your opponents’ ingredients by playing a spoiled ingredient card on top of their fresh one. To mess with someone’s plans, play a Skip card in front of their sandwich to make them miss their next turn. And if you really want to shake things up, play a Reverse card to change the order of play. And finally, if you play a Double-Play card, you get to play two additional cards from your hand.
- At the end of your turn, don’t forget to draw back up to seven cards to replenish your hand.
Special Rules
- Just remember, you can’t have more than seven cards in your hand at any time during the game.

When playing the game, there are a few important rules to consider:
- I can only play spoiled ingredient cards on top of my opponent’s fresh ingredient cards. For example, I can play a spoiled lettuce card on top of my opponent’s fresh lettuce card, but not on top of their fresh meat card.
- I can only play fresh ingredient cards on top of spoiled ingredients of the same type. For example, I can play a fresh bread card on top of a spoiled bread card, but not on top of a spoiled cheese card.
- I cannot play fresh ingredient cards on top of my opponents’ spoiled ingredient cards.
- I cannot play spoiled ingredients on top of my own fresh ingredient cards.
- If another player places a skip card in front of my sandwich, I must discard the skip card and take no other action when my turn comes up.
If you don’t have a card you can play, just discard one from your hand and draw a new one. But keep in mind, you can’t play the new card until your next turn.
When you play a double play card, it’s like getting a bonus. You can play two more cards, in addition to the double play card itself. And don’t forget, after playing those extra cards, make sure to draw back up to a total of seven cards in your hand.
Have fun playing and strategizing with these rules!
