The Basics
In Guess Who? SpongeBob edition, the goal is to guess which character your opponent has chosen from the 24 different characters on the game board. To win, you have to be the first to correctly guess your opponent’s character.
Here’s how the game works:
- You and your opponent each choose a character card without revealing it to each other.
- You take turns asking questions to narrow down the options. For example, you could ask, “Does your character have a pink star-shaped body?”
- Your opponent can only respond with “yes” or “no.”
- Based on their answer, you can eliminate certain characters from your list.
- Continue asking questions and eliminating characters until you’re confident enough to make your guess.
- When you think you know who your opponent’s character is, take your turn to make your final guess.
- If you guess correctly, you win!
Some Tips for Success
Now that you know the basics, let’s dive deeper with some tips to help you dominate the game:
- Start broad and then get specific. Begin with questions that narrow down the field of characters. For example, you could start by asking, “Is your character a sea creature?”
- Use the process of elimination. Keep track of the characters your opponent eliminates with their responses. This will help you narrow down your options faster.
- Take note of the character attributes. Each character has unique traits, like eye color, shape, or accessories. Analyzing these attributes can give you valuable clues.
- Don’t be afraid to take risks. If you have a strong hunch about your opponent’s character, go for it and make your guess. Sometimes, a bit of bravery pays off!

How to Put It Together
So, you’ve got your hands on this awesome game, and now it’s time to assemble it. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Let’s go through the steps together.
First, you’ll find two game trays in the box. These are where all the fun happens. Place them side by side on a flat surface, making sure they’re aligned properly.
Next, you’ll see two character sheets. These sheets contain all the information about your characters and their abilities. Take your time to familiarize yourself with them, as they will be your key to victory!
Now, let’s move on to the four character selectors. These small pieces are used to indicate which character you’re currently controlling. Simply slide the selector into the slot next to your chosen character on the character sheet. Easy peasy!
Lastly, you’ll find two scoring sliders. These sliders are used to keep track of your score throughout the game. Slide them up and down the tracks on the game trays to mark your points. It’s a great way to see how well you’re doing!
And that’s it! You’re all set to start playing. Remember to read the instructions carefully so you’re familiar with all the rules. Have fun, and may the best player win!
- First, you want to carefully take the game pieces out of the plastic frame. If you need to, you can use an emery board or sandpaper to smooth out any extra plastic on the pieces. Once you have taken out all of the game pieces, you can get rid of the frame.
- Next, flip the game trays over so that you can see the fronts, and snap the scoring sliders into place.
- Now, you need to attach the character selectors to the top and bottom tracks of the large windows. Each game tray should have two selectors.
- Turn the game trays over again, so that you can see the backs. Press a character sheet facedown into the back of each tray.
Setting Up
To begin, choose a Mystery Character from one of the top two rows. Slide the character selector over that character. The other character selector should be on a white dot.
You gotta open all the doors on your game tray to see the characters. Keep your game tray steady so the doors don’t close by mistake.
Let’s Play the Guessing Game!
My goal in this game is to figure out which Mystery Character my opponent has before they can figure out mine. It’s a test of wits and deduction!
How the Game Works
First, the younger player gets to start. We take turns asking each other simple YES or NO questions.
Based on the answer, I can start eliminating characters by closing the doors to those that I know don’t have certain characteristics.
Let me give you an example. I can ask, “Does your Mystery Character have fins?” If my opponent answers “No,” then I can close all the doors to characters with fins because I know their Mystery Character doesn’t have them.
Each question brings me closer to uncovering the identity of their Mystery Character. After I ask a question, it’s my opponent’s turn to ask their own YES or NO question.
How to Win
When I believe I know which Mystery Character my opponent has, I can make my guess on my next turn instead of asking a question. If my guess is correct, I win the game! But if I guess wrong, my opponent comes out on top.
Let’s Play for the Championship!
When we’re playing in a tournament, we increase the score by one for every game we win. The first person to win five games becomes the champion!
Ready for a Challenge?
For an extra challenge, let’s each choose two characters – one from the top row and one from the bottom row. Your goal is to correctly guess both of my Mystery Characters.
Remember, when you ask me questions about the two Mystery Characters, use “both” or “either” in your question. For example, you can ask, “Do both of your characters wear pants?” or “Is either character mostly red?” It’s important to be careful when trying to eliminate characters!
Here’s an example: You ask, “Do either of your characters have claws?” and I answer, “Yes”. The tricky part is that you can’t rule out any characters just yet, because while one Mystery Character definitely has claws, the other one might not!
