Getting Started

  1. There’s a Player Dashboard for each player. Shuffle them and distribute one to each player. The person with the First Player Dashboard G will go first.
  2. Everybody gets an Energy Storage Ring A and a Player Dashboard B. Place them right in front of you.

I’m going to show you how to set up the game. First, you’ll need a Starting Gizmo Card. Put it on your Player Dashboard below the File symbol C. The area below the Player Dashboard is called the Active Gizmo Area.

Next, divide the cards into Level Decks. Look at the back of the cards to see how many cards go in each deck. Shuffle each deck on its own. Take out 20 cards from the Level 3 Deck and put them back in the box. You only need 16 of them for each game.

Now, put all three Level Decks in the middle of the table next to each other. They should form 3 rows. Take Gizmo cards from each deck based on their Level. Here’s how many cards to take for each Level: 4 cards for Level 1, 3 cards for Level 2, and 2 cards for Level 3.

Each Gizmo Card you take should go face-up in the row that matches its deck. This is the Display Area. You’ll end up with 9 Gizmo Cards arranged in a triangle shape, with Level 1 at the bottom.

Hey there! Let’s get started with the setup of the game Gizmos. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, place the Victory Point Tokens near the Gizmo Cards.
  2. Next, assemble the Energy Dispenser as shown in the Dispenser Assembly Guide. Make sure it’s within everyone’s reach. Now, put all 52 Energy Spheres inside it, with 13 of each color. You’ll notice that 6 random Energy Spheres will slide out and form the Energy Row. Important: If the Energy Spheres don’t fall into the Energy Row, just give the dispenser a little shuffle until they do!

Player Dashboard

1 When you first start, you have certain stats that show your limits. These include your Storage Limit, File Limit, and Research Amount.

2 Converter Gizmos have a specific function, and this is what that function is.

3 There are four different actions you can take, and here is what each action does.

4 The areas below the Player Dashboard are where you keep all your Active Gizmos. They are arranged in columns based on their Gizmo Type.

5 The Archive is located on the side of the Player Dashboard. This is where you put Gizmos that have been Filed.

Gizmo Card

1 Gizmo Type: The Gizmo does different things and goes in different places on the Player Dashboard.

2 Gizmo Effect: The Gizmo does something special, like giving you a bonus or making something happen. (You can check the List of Effects for more information).

3 Victory Points: The Gizmo is worth a certain number of Victory Points at the end of the game.

4 Energy Type: The color of Energy that you need to use to Build this Gizmo.

5 Gizmo Cost: The amount of Energy (of a specific type) that you have to spend to Build this Gizmo.

The Player Turn

I’m the first person to take a turn, and then we go around in a circle. You have to do one of these things on your turn:

  • File: Take out 1 Gizmo from the Display Area.
  • Pick: I can choose 1 energy from the Energy Row.
  • Build: I can build 1 Gizmo from the Display Area or my Archive.
  • Research: I can draw Gizmo cards from one of the facedown Level Decks and then I get to choose 1 to add to my File or build.

File

When you’re playing the game, one important thing you need to do is choose a Gizmo card. You can choose any card that is faceup and located in the Display Area. Take the card you chose and put it in your Archive right next to your Player Dashboard.

When you grab a Gizmo from the Display Area, you immediately get a new Gizmo card from the same Level Deck and put it into the empty spot. After you get this new Gizmo, your File Action is done.

Your Archive has a maximum capacity for Gizmos, as shown in the Upgrades Area of your Player Dashboard. At the start of the game, each player can only hold 1 Gizmo in their Archive, but some Upgrade Gizmos might increase that number. Your Archive can never exceed your File Limit, so if you’re already at the limit, you can’t take a File Action.

Choose

When playing this game, you have the option to choose one type of Energy from the six available options in the Energy Row. Simply select the one you want and add it to your Energy Storage Ring.

Your Energy Storage Ring has a limited capacity, which you can see in the Upgrades Area of your Player Dashboard. At the beginning of the game, your Storage Limit is set to 5, but certain Upgrade Gizmos might increase it.

Remember: There are some abilities that allow you to draw a random Energy. This is different from a Pick Action. In these cases, you don’t take Energy from the Energy Row. Instead, you blindly draw Energy from the top of the Dispenser.

All Energy that you take must be placed directly into your Energy Storage Ring. It’s crucial to note that your Ring can never hold more Energy than your Energy Storage Limit. So, if you have reached your limit, you won’t be able to take any additional Energy.

Build

When you’re ready to make a selection, pick one Gizmo card that is faceup. You can choose it either from the Display Area or from your Archive. To pay for the chosen card, use Energy from your Energy Storage Ring that matches the Gizmo’s Energy Type and Cost. Simply put the Energy back into the Energy Dispenser when you’re done.

When I create a Gizmo from the Display Area, I always make sure to replenish it afterwards. It’s important to remember that once I’ve replenished it, my Build action is complete.

For example: In order to build this particular Gizmo, you will need to use up 2 Battery (black) Energy.

Hey there! Let’s talk about where to place your Gizmo below your Player Dashboard. Each Gizmo has a specific Gizmo Type, and you’ll want to put it in the corresponding area. If you have multiple Gizmo cards with the same symbol, go ahead and stack them so you can see all of their awesome effects.

Now, let’s get into Converters:

When you’re getting ready to do a Build Action, pay attention! Your active Converter Gizmos might come in handy. They allow you to convert one type of Energy into another, which can be super useful. Want to learn more about Converters? Just check out the List of Effects for all the info.

Lastly, let’s talk about Research:

When I don’t have enough cards in the Level Deck I picked to match my Research Amount, I’ll just draw the available number of cards. Then, I get to pick one card from the ones I drew and choose either to Build it (but only if I have enough Energy) or File it (as long as I have space in my Archive). Alternatively, I can choose to do neither of these actions. The cards that I didn’t choose will go back face-down to the bottom of the corresponding Level Deck. I have the freedom to decide the order in which I return them. If I want to, I can return all of the cards that I drew, or if I can’t File or Build any of them. It’s important to keep in mind that the File or Build Action I choose during a Research Action will also activate any Gizmos that are currently active.

When playing the game, it’s essential to choose one of the four available actions. However, the real key to winning lies in activating your Gizmos’ effects. These effects allow you to accomplish much more on your turn than you could otherwise.

Each Gizmo you Build and place below your Player Dashboard has a unique Effect that is activated by a specific Trigger. You can find a list of these Effects to learn more about them.

Whenever you take an action, be sure to check all of the Gizmos you have under that action to see if any of their Effects may be triggered. Once the triggering action is done, you have the option to activate the Effects of any triggered Gizmos in any order you want.

Remember, each Gizmo can only be used once per turn! You can use the Effect of a Gizmo on the same turn you build it, but it cannot be triggered by the action that Built it.

Example: When I play the game, I choose to perform a specific action called the Build Action. This action requires me to spend 3 Atomic Energy from my resources to construct an Atomic Gizmo from my Archive. This action activates 2 of my Build Gizmos: one that rewards me with a Victory Point token, and another that gives me the ability to select 1 Energy of any type from the Energy Row. It’s important to note that although the Gizmo I just built allows me to select 2 Energy when constructing from the Archive, it cannot be activated by the action that just built it.

Chain Reactions

I recently learned about a fascinating concept called chain reactions. It’s pretty cool how one action can set off a whole series of events, like dominoes falling one after another. You might be familiar with this idea from those popular videos where people set up elaborate contraptions to trigger a chain reaction.

Imagine this: I drop a ball, and it rolls down a ramp and knocks into a row of dominoes. As the first domino falls, it hits the next one, which hits the next one, and so on. It’s a mesmerizing sight to see all those dominoes tumbling down in sequence!

But chain reactions aren’t just for entertainment purposes. They play a crucial role in many aspects of science and everyday life. Let me explain how.

Think about how your body works. In your body, countless chain reactions take place every day to keep you healthy and functioning properly. For example, when you eat food, your body breaks it down into smaller molecules through a series of chemical reactions. These reactions release energy that powers the cells in your body, allowing them to carry out their jobs. It’s like a continuous cycle of reactions keeping your body running smoothly.

Chain reactions also come into play in the world of technology. Have you ever wondered how your TV remote controls your television? When you press a button on the remote, it sends an electrical signal to the TV. This signal sets off a series of electrical chain reactions within the TV, which ultimately result in the desired action, like changing the channel or adjusting the volume. It’s pretty amazing how a simple button press can cause so many intricate processes to unfold.

Another example of chain reactions is found in weather patterns. Weather is influenced by a complex interplay of different factors, one leading to another. For instance, when warm air rises, it creates a region of low pressure. This change in pressure causes the surrounding air to rush in, resulting in wind. And wind, in turn, affects other factors like cloud formation and precipitation. It’s like a domino effect in the atmosphere!

Chain reactions are not only fascinating but also serve as a reminder of how interconnected everything is in the world. A small action can have a big impact when it sets off a chain of events. Just like those dominoes, our actions can create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond what we initially anticipated.

So, the next time you witness a chain reaction, whether it’s in a physics experiment or in your own daily life, take a moment to appreciate the marvels of cause and effect. You never know how far-reaching the consequences of a single action can be!

Did you know that the secret to brilliant inventors lies in how they build their Gizmos? They create a chain reaction where one Gizmo sets off another, leading to a cascade of incredible benefits! It’s like a domino effect, where each action sets off a different action, and so on.

Every time you take an action, whether it’s your main action or a bonus action triggered by a Gizmo, make sure to check if any other Gizmos are activated by that action.

There’s no limit to how many Gizmos you can activate, but keep in mind that each Gizmo can only be used once per turn. You get to decide the order in which their effects are carried out, regardless of the sequence of triggering actions.

When you build a Gizmo at the start of a chain reaction, it may be activated later in that reaction, as long as it’s not triggered by the action that built it. Figuring out the best order to execute actions and effects can sometimes lead to better results. You can find a detailed example of a chain reaction in the List of Effects.

The Game Ends

The game will end when a player builds their 4th Level 3 Gizmo or their 16th Gizmo in total (counting their Starting Gizmo). After that, play will continue until the player to the right of the first player finishes their turn. In other words, all players will have an equal number of turns in the game. If the player who triggered the end of the game is the one to the right of the first player, the game will end when they complete their turn.

So, here’s the deal: each of us gets to be a mad scientist and create our own set of Gizmos. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, it gets even better. After we’ve crafted our Gizmos, we’re going to duke it out and see who comes out on top!

Now, you’re probably wondering how we decide who wins. It’s simple: the player with the most Victory Points gets the glory. And trust me, victory is sweet.

But what if there’s a tie? Don’t worry, we’ve got that covered too. If two players have the same number of Victory Points, we take a closer look at their Gizmos. The player with the most Gizmos in their Active Gizmo Area wins the tiebreaker.

But what if it’s still tied? Well, we keep digging deeper. The player with the most Energy left in their Energy Storage Ring is the ultimate champ. And if it’s STILL tied (I know, crazy, right?), we look at who’s farthest from the First Player, going clockwise. Whoever that is, well, they’re the reigning genius.
