If the movement die shows a Ghost icon, I have to flip over the top Ghost Card from the draw pile and put it next to the board. This forms a discard pile for the Ghost Cards.

B – So, if there’s a letter on the card, you gotta put a Ghost Figure right in the room with that same letter. Easy peasy!

C – But hold on, if the card you flip is the Shuffle Card, things change up a bit. You don’t put a new Ghost Figure on the board. Nope! Instead, you grab all the cards – the ones in the draw pile and the ones in the discard pile – and give them a good shuffle. Then, you put that newly shuffled pile beside the board as the new draw pile. Fresh start!

3. Moving

When I play the game, I have the choice to move up to the number displayed on the die. So let’s say I roll a 5, but I only need to move 3 spaces to reach my desired destination. If I decide to stop at that point, I give up the chance to move any further.

If you find a Treasure Jewel in the room where you end your turn, you can grab it and put it in your backpack. But be careful, if there’s a ghost in the room, you’ll have to fight it too (more on that later).

You can keep the jewel in your backpack until you successfully drop it off (see #5). Just remember, you can only carry one jewel at a time. And don’t worry, you can still fight ghosts and hauntings while carrying the jewel.

Now, let’s talk about dropping off the Treasure Jewels.

If you manage to make it outside the house with a Treasure Jewel, your turn ends and you can drop off the jewel there. Just put it in a pile beside the door.

Speaking of ghosts, let’s discuss fighting them next.

If you step into a room and come face-to-face with a Ghost Figure, you have no choice but to do battle.

To fight the Ghost Figure, you roll a special die called the Battle Die. It’s a die that has symbols on it instead of numbers. Roll the die and see what symbol you get. If you roll the Ghost Icon, you have successfully defeated the Ghost and can remove one Ghost Figure from the room.

Remember: If you roll a Haunting or a Blank, don’t worry! There’s no need to take any actions and there are no penalties. However, if there is at least one other player in the room with you, the player whose turn it is can roll two Battle Dice instead of just one.

Each Ghost Icon on the Battle Dice allows you to remove one Ghost Figure from the room. Even if there are more than two players in the room, you still only roll two Battle Dice.

All Ghost figures that you successfully remove from the board go back to the supply and can be used again in future games.

Rooms Filled with Ghosts

Hey, you need to pay close attention to the number of those spooky Ghost Figures that pop up on the board. If there are too many of them, the rooms are going to turn into Haunted zones. And guess what? If 6 rooms get Haunted all at once, you’re going to lose the game!

The Spook in the Room

When 3 of those sneaky Ghost Figures decide to hang out in the same room, that room becomes Haunted. And how do you know? Well, you replace those Ghost Figures with a red Haunting Marker. Spooky stuff, right?

If you need to put a Ghost Figure in a room that’s already Haunted, just follow these steps. The new Ghost Figure will move up through the lettered rooms (from A to B to C, and so on) until it finds an empty space. If there are no available spaces in the rooms, the Ghost will loop back to room A.

Now, let’s say you’re carrying a Treasure Jewel and find yourself in a Haunted room. In this case, you can’t leave the room until you successfully “UN-Haunt” it.

To “UN-Haunt” a room, you’ll need to take some specific actions.

In order to remove a Haunting, you need to join forces with at least one other player. Make sure that there are at least two players in a room with a Haunting before you can roll the Battle Dice. It’s your turn, so go ahead and roll the dice. If you roll at least one HAUNTING ICON, you can get rid of the Haunting Marker and eliminate the threat.

When you remove a Haunting, any Haunting figures on the board are sent back to the supply. Don’t worry, you can use them again in future gameplay.
