Setting up a game of Fury of Dracula is a pretty straightforward process. Here’s how it goes:
- Choose the Hunter characters: First, you need to decide who will be playing as the Hunters. These are the brave souls who will be hunting down Dracula.
- Appoint a Dracula player: Next, one player needs to take on the role of Dracula. This player will control the vampire and try to outwit the Hunters.
- Prepare the game board: Lay out the game board on a flat surface. This will serve as the playing area for the game.
- Set up the location cards: Shuffle the location cards and place them face-down in a deck. Then, reveal a number of cards based on the number of players. These cards represent the locations that Dracula can move to.
- Distribute Hunter items: Each Hunter gets a set of item cards. Shuffle the item cards and deal a number to each Hunter, as specified in the rulebook.
- Prepare the Dracula cards: Take the Dracula event and power cards and shuffle them together. This forms the Dracula deck.
- Set up the Influence track: Place the Influence track near the game board. This will be used to track Dracula’s influence over Europe.
- Prepare Dracula’s trail: Dracula starts the game in a hidden location. This location is determined by the starting location cards. The players should set up Dracula’s trail by placing face-down location cards in a track near the game board. The cards should be placed according to the starting location, with the most recent location card on top.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re ready to begin playing Fury of Dracula. Good luck!
- Get Ready: First, unfold the game board and put it in the middle of the play area where everyone can reach it easily.
- Track Your Influence: Put the influence marker on space “0” of the influence track.
When getting ready to play the game, we need to gather all the necessary cards and tokens. Here’s what you need to do:
- Prepare Hunter cards: First, we want to shuffle all the item cards and place them facedown near the board. Then, we need to shuffle the hunter and Dracula event cards together, creating a single deck, and place it near the item deck. Lastly, we’ll sort the hunter combat cards by type and place them in three separate piles near the item deck.
- Prepare Dracula cards: Now, it’s time to get Dracula ready. We’ll need to sort the encounter cards and Dracula combat cards into two different decks, and shuffle them individually. After that, we’ll create the location deck by organizing the location cards numerically. All three decks should be placed facedown near Dracula’s side of the board.
- Create Token Pool: Lastly, we need to create a pool of tokens. We’ll start by placing the ticket tokens facedown near the board and mixing them up. Then, we’ll separate the remaining tokens by type and place them in different piles near the board.
When we begin a game of Fury of Dracula, we need to take care of a few important steps. Let’s go through them together!
First, I draw five encounter cards. These cards will determine the events and challenges I’ll face as Dracula. It’s always a bit exciting to see what fate has in store for me.
Next, it’s time to place the hunters on the game board. Each hunter player will choose a city to start in. Lord Godalming will go to Constanta A, Dr. John Seward will be in Marseilles B, Mina Harker will make her home in Brussels C, and Amsterdam D will be the starting point for Van Helsing. If we’re playing the advanced game, each hunter can choose their own starting city.
Now, let’s talk about what happens when we have fewer than five players. If we have three hunter players, one player will control two hunters. If it’s just two hunter players, each player will handle two hunters. And if there’s only one hunter player, that player will control all four hunters. It can be a bit challenging to manage multiple characters, but it can also be a lot of fun!
Lastly, we have the option to play as either the hunters or Dracula. Who we choose to control is up to us. Both roles offer their own unique gameplay and strategies. If we want to mix things up, we can always switch roles for future games.
So, there you have it – the important steps to get started with Fury of Dracula. Now, let the hunt begin!
When you play Fury of Dracula, you control a character, either a hunter or Dracula. Now, when a rule or effect talks about hunters or Dracula, it means it’s talking about you, the player, and the character you control.
A New Hunter’s Guide
As a hunter, your main goal is to track down and eliminate Dracula. This isn’t an easy task and it requires teamwork and patience. At the beginning of the game, it’s crucial to use your actions to explore the map, in the hopes of finding a trail that can lead you to Dracula.
Spreading out and covering more ground is a smart move for hunters. While you’re out there exploring, make sure to collect useful items, events, and ticket tokens. These resources will come in handy when you get closer to finding Dracula. They’ll help you corner him efficiently and ultimately defeat him.
About the Game
In the game Fury of Dracula, I get to play as one of the hunters, and together, we either win or lose. Our mission is to find Dracula, who is traveling secretly across Europe. Meanwhile, Dracula’s goal is to become more powerful by creating more vampires and defeating us, the hunters. We must stop his influence from spreading all over Europe.
How to Play
The game is played in rounds, with each round consisting of a hunter phase and a Dracula phase. We continue playing rounds until the game is over.
Hunter Phase
Each hunter phase has both day and night. During the day, we can move around Europe and search for Dracula. At night, we investigate and prepare for the next day.
First things first, let’s talk about how we hunters spend our days and nights. It’s pretty simple, really. During the day, each of us gets to take one action. And then, when the night falls, we each get to take another action. The order in which we act is based on the activation order number on our character sheets.
Now, there are seven different actions we can choose from. Each of us has a handy reference card that gives a quick explanation of these actions. Here’s a breakdown of how we perform them:
1. Move Action
When I want to move, I just move my figure on the board to show where I’m going. I can only do this during the day, though. And I can choose to move to either a city or a sea zone. So, what’s a city or a sea zone, you ask? Good question!
Well, when I move, there are a few options:
Road: If I’m feeling like taking a stroll, I can move from one city to an adjacent city. You just have to be careful with those pesky zombies!
Railway: Let me tell you about the railway system. If you have a ticket token, you can use it to travel by railway. The value on the ticket determines how many railways you can use to reach a new city. I’ll explain this in more detail later.
Sea: Now, let’s talk about the sea. If you’re in a port, you can move to a nearby sea zone. If you’re already in a sea zone, you have the option to move to an adjacent port or another sea zone. During the day, if you find yourself in a sea zone, you must make a move. However, during the night, you can choose to stay put.
What Are Locations
Okay, I want to explain the two types of locations you’ll encounter on the game board: cities and sea zones.
When it comes to cities, they come in two varieties: large and small. Some cities also double as ports, which means they have a special connection to a nearby sea zone. You can quickly identify a port by the anchor icon it displays.
Have you ever wondered about sea zones? They’re like little spaces on the game board that are divided by borders. What’s interesting is that two sea zones that share a border are actually adjacent to each other. It’s pretty cool, right?
Now let’s talk about roads and railways. They’re like lines that connect cities to other cities. It’s kind of like how roads and train tracks connect different places in real life. If two cities are connected by one road, then they are adjacent to each other. Simple, right?
But here’s where it gets really interesting. Each railway connects one city to another city. And hunters can actually use these railways to move greater distances or travel between cities that are not adjacent. It’s like having a secret shortcut! For example, in the diagram, a hunter can use the railway to move between the two large cities, even though they are not adjacent. How cool is that?
Let me give you an example of how a hunter can use this to their advantage…
It’s a new day and I take my turn as a hunter. Here’s what happens:
- I, Lord Godalming, am currently in Toulouse. I decide to travel by road. There are a few cities near Toulouse, but I choose to go to Barcelona.
- Dr. Seward is in Marseilles. He decides to travel by railway and uses one of his ticket tokens with a “3/2” value. He heads to Cologne, which is three railways away.
- Van Helsing is in Genoa, a port city. He opts for a sea journey and travels to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
- Mina Harker had already moved from the Mediterranean Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea during the last hunter phase. Now, during the day, she has to travel by sea. She chooses to go to the nearby port city of Rome.
2. Supply Action
To get ready for the upcoming battle with the Count, we hunters have to collect supplies by picking item and event cards.
When I’m hunting in a big city, I get to do a supply action. That means I draw a card from the item deck and keep it in my hand. But if I’m in a small city, I don’t get to draw a card.
After that, I have to deal with an event card. These can be tricky because some event cards need to be played right away. The way I draw event cards depends on whether it’s day or night:
During the day: I take a card from the top of the event deck. If the card shows a picture of a hunter, I get to keep it and put it in my hand. But if the card shows Dracula, I have to place it face down in the discard pile.
Night: At night, hunters have a chance to get an extra card. If the card at the bottom of the deck has a hunter icon, the hunter can add it to their hand. If it has a Dracula icon, Dracula gets to add it to his hand.
3. Trade Action
When a hunter wants to trade with another hunter in the same city, they can show each other their items and tickets and decide to swap any of them. This exchange is private and only between the two hunters.
4. Special Action
A hunter can perform a special action by using either an event card from their hand or an ability stated on their character sheet. This special action can be used as an action during the game.
5. Reserve A Ticket Action
When I want to travel by train, I have to get a ticket. I can do this by reserving a ticket, which means I take a ticket token from the pool and put it in my play area. I can have a maximum of two ticket tokens at a time.
Sometimes, when I go hunting, I might get hurt. But if I take a rest action, I can recover one damage and feel better again.
Dracula is a sneaky one. He likes to hide encounter cards at the places he’s been to. But don’t worry, I can use the search action to find these cards. I’ll tell you more about this later.
Now, let’s talk about the Dracula Phase.
Once we’re all done with our night actions, it’s time for the Dracula phase to begin. This is when Dracula starts to wreak havoc by recruiting supporters, creating vampires, and playing with the forces of nature. In each Dracula phase, he first moves to a new location and then places an encounter card there.
Moving Around
Dracula has the ability to move both on land and at sea, but he can’t use railways. Instead of moving his figure on the game board like us hunters, Dracula keeps track of his movement by placing face-down location cards on his trail. He has one location card for each spot on the board.
When I play as Dracula in the game, I get to do something really sneaky. I slide all the cards on the trail over one space to the right. It’s like a secret move that only I know about. Then, I get to choose a card from the location deck and put it face down on the first space of the trail. The location on the card I choose has to be next to where I am right now. If I’m not sure where I can go, I can look at the reference map to help me figure it out.
There are two different kinds of location cards in the game: sea cards and city cards. Sea cards have a different design on the back, which means they’re special and more dangerous for me to move on. If I move using a sea card, the hunters will know because they can see the different back design. Also, every time I move from a port to a sea zone, I get hurt and take two damage. If I move from one sea zone to another sea zone, I take one damage.
If I move to a city where there’s a hunter, then I’m in trouble because I’ll be revealed. It’s like they catch me in the act!
Oh, by the way, have you heard about the trail? It’s a special place where my cards go. It’s like a path that shows where I’ve been. The trail is really important because the hunters use it to try and find me. So I have to be careful and make sure I don’t leave any clues for them to follow.
Hey there! Let’s dive into the mysterious world of Dracula and his secret trail. This trail has six spots, each representing where Dracula is or has been at some point. It’s like a sneaky way for him to keep tabs on his movements and plant encounter cards to make things difficult for the hunters.
The first spot on the trail shows where Dracula is right now. It’s also where he puts location cards and encounter cards when it’s his turn. Unless Dracula is exposed, you’ll find a figure of him in the circle just above the first spot on the trail.
Let me tell you about Dracula’s hideouts on the trail. Each space can have one hideout, which includes cards and tokens. Usually, it’s a location card with an encounter card.
Now, during Dracula’s turn, something interesting happens. Before Dracula picks a location card, all the hideouts on the trail move to make room for his chosen card. They slide in the direction of the arrows, moving one space at a time.
How Dracula Places an Encounter Card
Once Dracula makes his move, he has to decide which encounter card to play. He takes a card from his hand and puts it facedown on top of the location card on the first space of the trail. There’s one condition, though. If Dracula put a sea location on the trail this time, or if he’s currently revealed, he can’t place an encounter card.
When I play as Dracula in this game, I have some tricks up my sleeve to make things difficult for the hunters. You see, I have these special encounter cards that let me set traps and turn people into vampires. It’s quite sneaky, I know. But here’s the thing, if I ever run out of encounter cards, I can just draw more until I have a full hand of five cards again. And that gives me even more ways to mess with the hunters.
Dracula Movement Example
I’m going to talk about the Dracula movement that took place between 1793 and 1795. This was a significant and powerful uprising against the government. The movement started in southern Poland, where peasants were experiencing severe oppression and abuse. They were tired of the unjust treatment and decided to take a stand.
The peasants, who were mostly farmers and manual laborers, gathered together to fight for their rights and freedom. They believed that they deserved better treatment and were willing to fight for it. The movement quickly spread to other parts of Poland and gained a large following.
The Dracula movement was characterized by its strong sense of unity and determination. The peasants were willing to risk their lives for a chance at a better future. They organized protests, strikes, and demonstrations, demanding an end to their oppression.
The movement faced many challenges and obstacles along the way. The government and the aristocracy tried to suppress and silence the movement. They used violence and repression to try to maintain their power. However, the peasants remained resilient and continued to fight.
The Dracula movement had a significant impact on Polish history. It served as a catalyst for change and inspired future generations to fight for their rights. The movement highlighted the power of a united front and the strength that comes from standing up against injustice.
In conclusion, the Dracula movement was a powerful uprising that took place in Poland between 1793 and 1795. The peasants fought for their rights and freedom, despite facing immense challenges and repression. Their unity and determination serve as an inspiration to us all.
I started the game in Nantes, then made my way to Clermont-Ferrand on the second day, and now I find myself in Bordeaux.
Because the Nantes and Clermont-Ferrand cards are already on the trail, my movement options are quite limited. I can only go to Toulouse, Santander, or the North Atlantic.
I’m sliding all of the hideouts on the trail one space ahead.
I can’t go to Paris or Sargossa because they’re not right next to Bordeaux. There are only trains that connect them, no roads. So, I’ve decided to move to Santander instead. This means I won’t be able to choose the Paris or Sargossa cards anymore.
So, here’s what happens. I put Santander right at the beginning of the trail.
Finally, I pick a card from my hand and place it on top of Santander. That’s my move. And now, it’s time for the end of the game.
If I manage to advance the influence track to space “13,” then I win as Dracula. There are a few ways I can do this:
1. When a vampire encounter card matures, it moves the track a certain number of spaces as shown on the card.
2. If I use the “Fangs” combat card against a mesmerized hunter, it moves the track forward by one space.
3. Defeating a hunter is another way to progress the track. Each defeated hunter moves it by two spaces, plus an additional one for every despair token on the board.
But if the hunters can deal a total of 15 damage tokens to Dracula’s character sheet, then they win the game by defeating me. It’s a tough battle, so let’s see who emerges victorious.
