– Lastly, the 3 power bars will be your key to success.
Now that you know what’s in store for you, it’s time to set up and start your adventure!
When we start playing, we each get a character card. There are 4 different character cards, so we pick one at random. We put the card in front of us, face-up. Then, we pick a skill card. There are 6 different skill cards, so we choose one randomly or pick the one we like. We put the skill card next to our character card. The skill card tells us how to use special abilities during the game.
Next, we shuffle the equipment cards and put them face-down. Each player gets a certain number of equipment cards based on what it says on their skill card. We put the equipment cards in front of us, face-up. The rest of the equipment cards go on the table to use as a draw pile.
The color we play with is the same color as our character card. Everyone gets something special based on their color:
- You’ll need 5 or 6 dice (depending on the skill card, under )
- Grab 1 meeple
- Place the destination marker on your character card
- Get yourself a stamina tracker
Take a look at the 7 scenario cards and choose one. If you prefer, you can randomly draw one instead. Follow the instructions on the card to set up the terrain. Look to the example on the right for guidance on the setup steps ( 1 to 7 ).
So, here’s what you need to do: First, place the stamina board right next to the terrain. Easy enough, right? Then, take your stamina trackers and put them on the very first space of the stamina board.
Next, grab those wound tiles and place them right next to the board. Now, it’s time to choose a difficulty level. There are four options: Level 1, 2, 3, and 4.
If you’re new to the game or haven’t played much before, I recommend starting at level 1. But if you’re a seasoned player looking for more of a challenge, go ahead and start at level 2.
Once you’ve picked your difficulty level, grab the corresponding level card and place it to the left of the stamina board. Make sure it fits snugly into the slot provided.
Now, take all the other components, including the scenario card, and put them back in the box. You won’t be needing them anymore.
First, let’s set up the game. Place the volcano card on the table where the scenario card tells you to. Make sure you have enough space for the other cards.
Next, take the 2 rubble cards and put them in the spots with the @o.jpt symbol.
First, let’s get set up. Shuffle the 24 landscape cards and put one face up in each position. Don’t forget to leave out the village cards for now.
Now, let’s add some life to the game. Shuffle the 6 village cards and place one face up in each position. Oh, and if there are 4 players, don’t forget to add a village card to the spot with the special symbol.
5 For 2 or 3 players: You gotta put your meeples on the landscape card with the white #image.jpg-symbol on the scenario card. If there’s 4 players, two of you gotta put your meeples on the landscape card with the white #image.jpg-symbol on the scenario card, and the other two gotta put their meeples on the landscape card with the grey #image.jpg-symbol.
#image.jpg6 You gotta put 1 equipment token on each terrain card with the #image.jpg-symbol.
#image.jpgAlright, so here’s the deal. We need to put those eruption tokens on the terrain cards. Take a look at the scenario card and place the tokens on the cards with #image.jpgsymbols. Make sure that the side with just one #image.jpgis showing. Got it? Good.
#image.jpg Take the stamina board and grab the level card you’ve chosen. |
The Goal of the Game
Here’s the deal: we’re a team, and we need to work together to win this game. The whole point is to get all our meeples standing on those village cards. That’s the win condition.
But listen up, because this is vital: if any of our meeples die before making it to the safety of the village (either by getting swallowed up by lava or collapsing from exhaustion), we lose. Simple as that.
Moving Through the Game
When it comes to playing the game, one of the most crucial aspects is understanding how I move from card to card. It’s a simple concept, really. We all roll our dice at the same time and then compare our results to the people sitting next to us. It’s important to grasp this idea right from the start.
Let me give you an example. Imagine this scenario:
1 So here’s the deal: I want to move to the terrain card that’s in front of me, and I’ve made sure to mark it with my fancy destination marker.
2 Now, imagine this: all of us players have already tossed our dice. And guess what? The results are there for everyone to see!
3 Picture this: the terrain card I’ve got my eyes on has certain requirements for dice. Take a look at the bottom of the card – you’ll see it specifies that only yellow dice #image.jpg and dice showing a value of #image.jpg count. All the other dice? Forget about ’em.
4 But hold on a second. I can only make my move if the total value of all my valid dice (the ones highlighted in grey in the example below) is higher than the total value of the valid dice of each of my neighbors.
Guess what? Clara has a total of 16 points! That’s more than her left neighbor, Jona, who only has 10 points. But her right neighbor, Steve, is beating her with 18 points. Because Steve has more points than Clara, she can’t make a move this round. Her meeple has to stay where it is.
Now that you get how this game works, let’s get back to teaching the game in the usual way. We’ll focus on the different phases of a game round.
The Phases of a Round
Each round is made up of six phases, which you can see on the back of your screen:
Rolling The Dice #image.jpg
Planning and Equipment Cards #image.jpg
Rerolls #image.jpg
Equipment Cards #image.jpg
Movement and Stamina #image.jpg
Eruption #image.jpg
When the volcano erupts, that’s when things get interesting. The eruption marks the end of a round, and a new round begins by rolling the dice. Let’s take a closer look at each phase of the game.
Phase 1: Rolling the Dice
Alright, let’s get started by setting up our playing area. Make sure there’s enough space for everyone to roll their dice without others seeing their results. Behind your screen, roll all of your dice once, keeping the outcome hidden from everyone else.
Remember: It’s important not to cheat or change your result during this phase or any other.
Phase 2: Planning and Equipment Cards
During this phase, I need to make some decisions about which cards I want to move my meeples onto. We can talk about it and share information. I also have to place my destination markers on different terrain cards. If I want, I can use equipment cards that show Phase 2.
Now, let’s go over the rules for moving around.
First, I need to choose which card I want to move my meeple onto. I can move my meeple up to three spaces per round, even if those spaces are already occupied by other meeples. Each step in the movement can be either vertical or horizontal, but not diagonal. If I want, I can also choose to keep my meeple on its current space. The only cards I can’t move onto or pass through are the ones with lava, rubble, or the volcano. I need to be careful and avoid these cards.
That’s it for the movement rules. Now I’m ready to start playing!
Choosing where to go
When you play the game, you need to decide where to go on the map. Here’s how you do it:
- First, make sure you can get to the place you want to go. Look at the rules to see how you can move.
- Next, remember that you can’t choose the same place as someone sitting next to you.
- Even if you want to stay where you are, you still have to put your marker there.
- It’s important to know that you can change your mind and move your marker as much as you want during the planning phase. But once the next phase starts, you can’t move it anymore.
Example: Here’s a picture of the markers you use to move and choose your destination.
I’m Steve and I decide to place my destination marker two cards away from my meeple. Jona, on the other hand, chooses to place his destination marker three cards away. Clara, however, decides to stay put and keeps her destination marker on the current card.
Remember, using destination markers during our discussion helps us better visualize and plan our movements.
This way, it’s easy for everyone to see which card we want to move onto and the dice requirements associated with it.
Dice Requirements
Every terrain card has a dice requirement at the bottom. This requirement tells us which dice we need in order to move onto that card. There are two criteria to consider:
Have you ever wondered about the true worth of a humble dice? It may seem like a simple object, but it holds a unique power. The value of the dice goes beyond its physical appearance. It carries with it the potential for joy, excitement, and even the power to change your destiny.
When I hold a dice in my hand, I feel a rush of anticipation. It’s like holding a small piece of possibility. Will it land on my lucky number? Will it bring me fortune or disappointment? The uncertainty is part of what makes it so thrilling.
Dice are known for their role in games of chance, but they have a deeper significance. They remind us that life is full of unpredictable twists and turns. Just like the roll of the dice, we never know what fate has in store for us.
Think about it – every time you roll a dice, you’re taking a gamble. You’re placing your hopes and dreams on the outcome. Will it be in your favor, or will you have to try your luck again?
But the value of the dice extends beyond the realm of games and chance. It’s a symbol of possibility and the power to make choices. When you roll the dice, you’re making a decision. You’re taking action and embracing the unknown.
Dice also teach us that sometimes, life is out of our control. No matter how carefully we plan or how hard we try, there will always be an element of chance. Dice remind us to embrace this uncertainty and find joy in the unexpected.
So the next time you hold a dice in your hand, let it be a reminder of the value it holds. It’s not just a simple object, but a symbol of possibility and the power to shape your own destiny. Roll the dice and embrace the adventure that awaits.
In order for me to place my game piece on a card, I have to meet a specific requirement. Let’s take a look at some examples that involve rolling dice:
Examples: Dice requirements
Hey there! Let’s chat about dice. Specifically, I want to talk about a certain type of die known as a D4. Ever heard of it?
If you’re into tabletop games or role-playing adventures, you might be familiar with dice like D6 or D20. But the D4 is a little different. It’s the smallest of the bunch and has a unique shape. Instead of a cube like the D6 or D8, it’s a little pyramid with four sides.
When it comes to rolling a D4, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the numbers on the four sides of the die are a bit unusual. Unlike the D6, which has numbers from 1 to 6, the D4 only goes from 1 to 4. So, if you’re looking for high numbers like 5 or 6, you won’t find them here.
Next, let’s talk about the probability of rolling each number. Since there are only four sides, you might think that each number has a 25% chance of landing face-up. But here’s where it gets interesting: there are three different possible outcomes when you roll a D4. All dice with a 1, 2, or 3 (of any color) will result in exactly that number, but a dice with a 4 might land on any of the numbers.
Let’s break it down even further. If I rolled a D4 three times and got a 1, a 2, and a 3, the chances of rolling a 4 on the next roll are actually higher than before. That’s because the 4 has “escaped” the previous rolls and is now the only outcome left. It’s like a twist in the tale!
Now, you might be wondering why anyone would want to use a D4 if it can be a bit unpredictable. Well, in many role-playing games, it’s used for determining damage or calculating certain abilities or spells. There’s a certain thrill in the uncertainty of the D4, keeping everyone on their toes.
So next time you delve into a fantasy world or play a tabletop game, give the D4 a try. You never know what it might bring to the table!
If you’re a fan of dice games, you’ve probably come across different types of dice. Some are simple, with just numbers on each face, while others have special symbols or patterns. One type of dice that stands out is the yellow dice. These dice are unique because they’re all yellow, but they also have something else in common – they all display the number 4.
Hey there! So, picture this: a whole bunch of pink and blue dice, lined up in front of me. But here’s the twist – only the ones showing an odd number are allowed. Pretty cool, right?
Hey there! So, I have a challenge for you – rolling some dice! But, there’s a catch. See, you have this destination card that specifies what kind of dice you need to move. In this case, we’re looking for yellow dice that show an even number.
Now, here’s where things get tricky. You want to roll a high number to increase your chances of moving, but at the same time, a high roll might block your teammates from moving. It’s like a puzzle!
Here’s what you need to keep in mind: the total of all your valid dice (the ones that match your destination card’s requirement) must be higher than the total of your neighbors’ valid dice. Otherwise, you won’t be able to move forward.
Now, let’s talk about communication.
Your dice results are super important to your teammates, but they can’t see them because they’re hidden behind screens. So, to share information and help each other out, you need to chat. But, there’s a rule you have to follow:
Let’s talk about the third phase of the game: rerolls. This is an important part, so pay attention.
In this phase, you have the opportunity to roll the dice again. It’s like getting a second chance!
Now, remember, there are some rules to follow. You can only reroll dice that didn’t match the requirements in the previous phase. So, if you didn’t get the right numbers or symbols, this is your chance to try again.
But be careful! You can only reroll a certain number of dice. The number of dice you can reroll depends on the number of reroll tokens you have. Each token allows you to reroll one dice.
Now you might be wondering, how do I get these reroll tokens? Well, there are a few ways. One way is by completing certain actions on the game board. Another way is by using game cards that grant you reroll tokens.
So, in this phase, you need to think strategically. Consider which dice you want to reroll and how it will benefit you. Make sure to use your reroll tokens wisely, as you might need them later in the game.
Don’t forget, if you communicate well with your team and a bit of luck is on your side, you can still meet your movement conditions. Work together and make the most of your rerolls!
Once you’ve all chosen where you want to go, it’s time for the rerolling to start.
Number of Rerolls
Each of you has the option to reroll your dice between 0 and 3 times. The number of rerolls depends on how far you want your meeple to move in this round. Here’s the breakdown:
- If you’d like to stay on your current card, you get 2 rerolls #image.jpg.
- If you want to move 1 or 2 spaces, you get 1 reroll #image.jpg.
- If you want to move 3 spaces, you don’t get a reroll.
When you’re playing the game, you might come across terrain cards with a special symbol in the top left corner. If your destination marker is on one of these cards, you get an extra reroll. Let me give you an example to make it more clear. The number of rerolls you get is increased because of these terrain cards. So keep an eye out for them and take advantage of the additional opportunities they offer!
In this game, each player has different rules for rerolling their dice. Let me explain how it works for each of us.
Rerolls for Clara
I have the advantage of being able to reroll my dice twice. This means that when I’m not satisfied with the numbers on my dice, I can choose up to two of them and roll them again in the hope of getting better results.
Rerolls for Steve
Steve has a small advantage too. He can reroll his dice once. So if he doesn’t like the outcome of his initial roll, he has the option to choose one of his dice and roll it again, hoping for a better number.
No Rerolls for Jona
Unfortunately for Jona, he doesn’t have the option to reroll any of his dice. Once he rolls his dice, he has to stick with the results, whether they are good or bad.
How to Reroll
Rerolling is a simple process. Let me explain how it works:
1. You can choose to reroll any number of your dice, up to all of them, for a reroll.
2. It doesn’t matter if you’ve rerolled some of these dice before or not. You have complete freedom in choosing which dice you want to reroll.
3. When you decide which dice to reroll, you roll them all at the same time.
4. Remember, you are not obligated to use all your rerolls. If you’re satisfied with your current result, you can stop rerolling at any time.
Limitations for the Reroll
- I want all of you to do your rerolls together.
- When we do the rerolls, no talking allowed.
Phase 4: Equipment Cards
Now, that we’ve all finished our rerolls, we get to talk about equipment cards.
These cards represent useful objects that give us special abilities, but just once.
- You can use your equipment cards either during phase 2 or phase 4. Each card will tell you which phase it can be used in.
- We can discuss the use of equipment cards openly. They’re placed face up in front of us so everyone can see. But remember, once we start using these cards, we can no longer change our destination or roll our dice again! And keep in mind, our dice are still hidden behind our screens, so the communication rules on page 6 still apply.
- In both phase 2 and phase 4, you can use as many cards as you want and in any order you prefer.
When I want to use an equipment card, I have to let my teammates know first. Once I announce it, I can go ahead and use the card. But here’s the catch – after I’m done using it, I have to get rid of it. I discard the card to the discard pile, which means I can’t use it anymore, and neither can my teammates.
Phase 5: Moving Around and Staying Strong
Once you’re done with using your equipment cards, it’s time to move your meeples. Start by taking off your screens so everyone can see your final dice results. Then, any player can proceed and do the following two steps:
- Compare results and move your meeple
- Adjust your stamina
During phase 5, you must follow the general rule. Throughout your turn, you should only focus on the dice requirement of your own destination card. The other cards don’t matter.
You have the freedom to choose the order in which you take your turns. Once the first player completes both steps, the rest of you can do the same. After everyone has finished these actions, the phase ends and the volcano erupts.
A. Compare Results And Move Meeple #image.jpg
Alright, here’s what you need to do:
- First, you and your two neighbors should gather all the dice that meet the requirements of your destination card. These are the dice that you can use on your turn.
- Next, add up the values of all the valid dice you have. This will give you your movement value.
- Your neighbors will do the same thing and calculate their movement values using their own valid dice.
If your movement value is higher than both of your neighbors’ values, then you can move. In that case, move your meeple to the card with your destination marker. If your destination marker is already on your current card, you can choose to stay there.
However, if your movement value is the same or lower than at least one of your neighbors’ values, you can’t move. You have to keep your meeple on its current card.
Finally, remember to put your destination marker back on your character card when you’re done.
Example: Let’s talk about moving meeples
Introduction:
I have something interesting to discuss with you today. Have you ever heard of something called meeples? I know it may sound like a strange word, but trust me, it’s something worth knowing about. Meeples are these tiny little game pieces that you can find in various board games. They come in different colors and shapes, and they play a crucial role in making games fun and exciting.
Why are meeples important in games?
Now, you might be wondering, why are meeples so significant? Well, let me tell you why. Meeples bring life to a game. When you see these little pieces on the board, you feel like you’re a part of something bigger. They represent you – the player – on the game board. Meeples can be farmers, builders, knights, or any other character depending on the game you’re playing. They allow you to interact with the game world and make strategic moves to achieve victory.
The versatility of meeples:
One of the great things about meeples is their versatility. They can be used in various ways, depending on the game. In some games, you might use meeples to claim territories or build structures. In others, you may command them to explore uncharted lands or battle enemies. Meeples can even represent resources or currency in certain games. The possibilities are endless, and that’s what makes them so exciting!
Meeples and social interaction:
Another amazing aspect of meeples is the social interaction they bring to the table. Board games are not just about playing; they’re also about connecting with others. Meeples help facilitate that connection. When you move your meeple and make a move, you’re engaging with your fellow players. You’re making decisions, forming alliances, and challenging each other. It’s like a little world of its own, where you and your friends can bond and create lasting memories.
Conclusion:
So, the next time you play a board game, take a moment to appreciate the meeples. They may seem like ordinary pieces, but they hold so much value. Meeples add depth, excitement, and a touch of magic to the gaming experience. They make you feel like an adventurer, a strategist, or a hero. So, let’s cherish these little game treasures and have a blast playing with them!
In this game, there are different characters with specific dice requirements and movement values. Let’s take a look at a couple of examples:
Steve: Steve needs pink dice and dice with a value of 4. He has a total value of 14 and a higher movement value than his neighbors, Jona (6) and Clara (2). Steve can choose where to move his meeple.
Clara: Clara needs yellow dice and dice with a value of 6. She has a total value of 10, higher than her neighbors Jona (9) and Steve (0). Since she wants to stay on her current landscape card, she doesn’t move her meeple.
Jona: Jona needs odd pink and blue dice. With a result of 11, his total movement value is lower than Steve’s (12). Therefore, Jona is not allowed to move his meeple.
Collecting Equipment
Hey there! Did you know that every time your meeple lands on a card with an equipment token, you have the chance to get a brand new equipment card? Pretty cool, huh?
Here’s how it works: you draw the very top card from the deck and show it to everyone. You can start using it in the next round, so it’ll come in handy.
But, remember, once you’ve taken the equipment token from the terrain card, you won’t be able to get any more equipment cards from there. So make sure to choose wisely!
Oh, and before I forget, there’s also something called eruption tokens. They have their own special rules, so keep an eye out for those!
Eruption Tokens
When the game begins, we put the eruption tokens on two of the terrain cards.
If you step on or pass over a card with an eruption token, it sets off a volcano eruption. This works the same as explained in “Phase 6: eruption”.
Once it happens, you take away the eruption token from the card. Each token can only be activated once during the game.
Note: If you trigger an eruption marker, make sure you go last in phase 5.
B. Adjust Stamina #image.jpg
When we begin the game, we all have plenty of energy. But as we play, our energy goes down, and we can also get hurt, making it harder to do things.
So, imagine you’re playing a game and you get to move your meeple. Exciting, right? Well, now you have to figure out the difference between your movement value and your neighbor’s highest movement value. This is where things get interesting. You consult the level card to see how much stamina you lose based on that difference. The bigger the difference, the more stamina you lose. And for each point of stamina lost, you move your stamina tracker on the stamina board.
But what happens if you can’t move your meeple? Well, in that case, you don’t need to calculate any differences. Instead, you just lose the maximum amount of stamina indicated on the level card. Simple as that.
Hey there! I wanted to talk to you about something super important. It’s all about your stamina in the game we’re playing. You see, your stamina is like your energy level. It’s what keeps you going and helps you do all the cool stuff in the game.
So, there’s this thing called a stamina tracker. It keeps track of how much stamina you have left. If you ever reach the last space on the tracker, the one with the @st.jpg symbol, then something pretty bad happens. You die of exhaustion. Yup, that’s right. Game over.
Injury Tokens
Every time you move your stamina tracker onto or over a card with a symbol, you’ll get hurt and need to take an injury token.
Put the injury token on one of the four injury spaces on your skill card. You need to choose a space that isn’t already covered. Each injury token limits what you can do and the effect lasts until the game ends.
Depending on which injury space you cover, different things will happen:
- #image.jpgLeg injury: You lose one of your dice forever. You can choose which die to lose. Remove it only after all players have adjusted their stamina, because your current dice results still matter to your teammates.
I have some important information about the different injuries you can encounter while playing the game Fuji. These injuries can have a big impact on your gameplay, so it’s crucial to understand what they do.
One possible injury is a broken arm. If you get this injury, you won’t be able to use any equipment cards anymore. It’s like your arm is out of commission!
Another injury that you might come across is amnesia. If you get amnesia, you won’t be able to use your skill ability. It’s like your memory has been wiped clean.
The third injury is an eye injury. If you suffer from an eye injury, you won’t be able to reroll dice during phase 3. But don’t worry, if you have any equipment cards or skill cards that allow you to reroll, those are not affected by this injury.
It’s important to note that the rear sides of the injury tokens show the four different effects they can have. You can choose the symbol that corresponds to the effect you want and place the marker in front of you instead of on your skill card.
Lastly, even if you have a broken arm, you can still pass equipment to other players. So don’t forget about that!
Now that you know about these injuries, you’ll be better prepared for the eruption phase of the game. Good luck!
After each round, something big happens – a volcano erupts! This causes all the landscape cards that are next to or below a lava card to flip onto their lava side. And guess what? Those flipped cards become lava cards too.
In the first round, there’s only one lava card – the volcano card. So, you only need to flip the first rubble card that’s next to the volcano. But in the following rounds, things can get trickier. You might have to flip more than one card at a time!
Here’s a rule you should never forget: If there’s a player’s meeple standing on a card that needs to be flipped over, oh no! The player gets swallowed by the lava, and that means everyone loses the game right away.
But don’t worry, there’s always a chance to try again. After the eruption, the next round begins just like the one before it. First, we roll the dice in phase 1.
For example: The lava keeps spreading!
End of the Adventure
The adventure you and your fellow adventurers embark on can either end with triumph or failure.
If any member of our team perishes, it will mean defeat for us all.
This could happen in two ways:
- Your current location card flips over to reveal a perilous volcano eruption #image.jpg
- Your stamina #image.jpgis depleted and you reach the final space on the stamina board (marked with the #image.jpgsymbol).
In either case, the game comes to an abrupt end and our entire team suffers defeat.
Once all the meeples are safely on village cards, victory is yours. The game ends immediately, there’s no need to wait for the round to finish or the eruption.
Village Cards
Village cards work just like any other terrain cards. If your meeple reaches a village card, it doesn’t get removed from the game. You still have to roll your dice and manage your stamina each round. You can even keep moving your meeple around.
It’s a smart move to venture further into the village, clearing cards at the village’s edge to make space for your teammates.
While you can leave the village at a later round, keep in mind that you can only secure victory if all meeples are standing on village cards at the same time.
Final Score

Variant
Want to make the game even more exciting? Try this extra thrill variant.
When setting up the game, you should turn the eruption token closest to the village upside down. Instead of showing only 1 symbol, it will now display 2 symbols.
If the token is activated, there will be 2 eruptions instead of just 1. This version of the game can be played at any difficulty level.
