Foodies Game Rules
Hey there! Have you ever played the Foodies game? It’s a super fun and exciting game that lets you discover new foods while having a great time with your friends. In this guide, I’ll explain all the rules so that you can start playing right away!
Setup
First things first, let’s set up the game. Gather all the players around a table or any other comfortable playing area. Each player will need a Foodies game board and a set of Foodie cards.
The game board is where you place your Foodie cards to create your food collection. It has different sections for different types of foods, like fruits, vegetables, desserts, and more. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the board and the different sections.
Now, shuffle the deck of Foodie cards and deal five cards to each player. This will be their starting hand. Place the rest of the cards face down in a draw pile. You’re all set!
Gameplay
The goal of the Foodies game is to collect sets of food cards. Each set consists of three cards of the same type. For example, you can have a set of three fruit cards or a set of three dessert cards.
On your turn, draw one card from the draw pile. Then, you have two options:
- Play a card: Place a card from your hand onto your game board in the corresponding section. For example, if you have a fruit card, place it in the fruit section of your game board. If you complete a set, announce it and place the set aside.
- Discard a card: If you don’t want to play any card from your hand, you can choose to discard one instead. Simply place the card face up in a discard pile.
The game continues clockwise, with each player taking turns following the same steps. As the game progresses, you will draw cards, play them on your game board, and discard any unwanted cards.
Ending the Game
The game ends when either the draw pile is empty or one player has completed all their sets. If the draw pile is empty, each player may take one more turn before the game ends.
Once the game ends, it’s time to count your points. Each completed set of cards is worth one point. The player with the most points wins the game!
And that’s it! You’re now ready to play the Foodies game. Gather your friends, have a blast discovering new foods, and may the best foodie win. Enjoy!

Setting up the Game
- Put the Market Board in the middle of the table. It has two sides, so select the side that matches the number of players you have. (Either 2/3 players or 4/5 players).
- Each of us grabs: 1 Food Court Dashboard and the 3 Player Markers of the same color. Place 1 Player Marker on the starting space of the Popularity Track on the Market board.
When we play the game called “Foodies,” here’s how we start: First, I put an image of a card on any empty spaces in my Court Dashboard. Then, I get 3 Coins for my reserve.
Next, we decide who goes first. The person who ate at an international restaurant most recently gets the First Player Token. They keep this token for the entire game. After that, each player gets a certain number of Flyer Tokens. The player who goes first gets 1 Flyer, the second player gets 2 Flyers, and the third and fourth players each get 3 Flyers.
That’s how we begin our game of Foodies – with a card and some tokens. It’s fun!
First, I’ll give you some general tips for creating your very own food market game. You’ll need a deck of cards and some tokens. Here’s how you set it all up:
1. Shuffle the 10 Culture Cards and draw 5. These cards represent different cultures from around the world.
2. Now, take the 10 Food Stall Cards for each of those 5 Cultures and shuffle them together. This will create a Food Stall Deck of 50 cards.
3. Place the Food Stall Deck on the Market Board.
4. Next, draw the first 5 cards from the Food Stall Deck and put them in the 5 slots on the Market Board. This is where the different food stalls will be displayed.
5. Now, choose 2 of the 5 Special Chef Cards. You can either pick them randomly or select them yourself. These Special Chef Cards will add unique abilities to your game.
6. Place the chosen Special Chef Cards next to the Chef for Hire on the Market Board.
7. Finally, place the Die and all the remaining tokens within reach of all players. You’ll need the Die to determine the outcome of certain actions in the game, and the tokens will be used for keeping score and tracking resources.
Now you’re all set up and ready to start playing! Have fun exploring different cultures and managing your very own food market. Enjoy the delicious dishes and strategic challenges that await you. Good luck!

The Game’s Objective
In Foodies, I am the manager of a Food Court. My goal is to compete with other managers to hire the best Stalls, serve delicious world cuisines, and attract as many customers as possible. The manager who accumulates the most Popularity Points by the end of the game will emerge victorious.
Managing the Food Court
When you play the game, you will have a dashboard with 9 Stall Spaces. These spaces are numbered to match the result of the die that you roll. Each space has its own special effect that will happen when you activate it.
Some spaces already have a Stall card on them. These cards have their own unique effects that will happen when the space is activated. You can collect the Stall card and use its effect once before it is removed from the space.

Game Play
When playing Foodies, we take turns, and the play moves in a circle, going from one player to the next. There are different parts to each turn:
- Foodie visit
- Get a new stall
- Hire chefs
1. Foodie Visit
During your turn, you roll a die to determine which Stall Space a Foodie will go to. If you roll a 0, you have the power to choose which side the die lands on.
When the die is rolled, everyone collects the rewards that are on the corresponding Stall Space on their dashboards. These rewards can include different things:

The Impact of Food Stalls
When you operate a food stall, you can leverage its power to gain advantages. Whenever you play a food stall card, it allows you to take a certain number of Coins from the reserve. This can be a great way to boost your resources and strengthen your position.
Not only that, but playing a food stall card also lets you advance your Player Marker on the Popularity Track. This means you can increase your popularity and gain more recognition among your competitors.
It’s important to note that each Culture has its own unique effect associated with its food stalls. These effects can provide additional benefits or open up new strategies for you to explore. It’s up to you to uncover the potential of each Culture and make the most of their special abilities.

B. Tokens
When I find any #image.jpg at the Stall Space, I take it and put it in my collection. And if I have any #image.jpg, I discard them and move my Player Marker that many spaces forward on the Popularity Track.
If your Stall Space is empty, the Foodie who comes to visit won’t give you a reward, and you’ll miss out!
Matching Stars
Do you know that every Food Stall Card has a special feature? Look closely and you’ll see half-stars on its borders. These half-stars are the key to earning more Popularity! But how can you make a complete star out of these half-stars? It’s simple! Just place two halves next to each other, and voila! You’ve created a beautiful, complete star. And the best part? When you collect rewards from a Food Stall Card, you’ll earn 1 Popularity for EACH of its complete stars. That means the more complete stars you have, the more Popularity you’ll gain. So, keep an eye out for those half-stars and start collecting as many complete stars as you can. Your path to victory starts with matching the stars!
Let me give you an example. If you activate either of these cards, you will gain 1 Popularity. This is because they are next to each other, forming a complete star.
Here’s an example to help you understand. Let’s say it’s Barry’s turn and he rolls a 5. He looks at his Food Court Dashboard and sees that the space marked “5” doesn’t have a Food Stall yet, but it does have $2 printed on it. So, he takes $2 from the reserve.
But here’s the thing. Whenever the active player rolls the die, everyone else also checks their dashboards and collects their rewards accordingly. So, Regina, Stephen, and Kiki would do the same.

Flyer Token
When you go on a Foodie Visit and you’re about to receive a reward, you have a special item called a Flyer Token that you can use. This token allows you to choose a reward from a booth that is right next to the one you visited, instead of the one you originally planned to collect from.
It’s important to note that this only affects your rewards. The other players will still collect their rewards as they normally would, unless they also have a Flyer Token!
Let me give you an example to help you understand better. Imagine Barry is rolling a dice and he gets a 5. Instead of collecting a reward from the booth at space 5, Barry can choose to spend his Flyer Token and collect a reward from the booths at spaces 2, 4, 6, or 8. Pretty neat, right?
Hey there! Just a little reminder: adjacent cards means the ones that are connected either horizontally or vertically, not diagonally. Keep that in mind, my friend!
2. Get Yourself a New Food Stall
When it’s my turn, I can purchase a Food Stall card from the Market. There are always 5 stalls to choose from, each with a different price. To buy a Food Stall, I pay the specified number of Coins and place the card on any space on my Food Court Dashboard.
But here’s the cool thing – I can replace an existing Food Stall on my dashboard! I simply remove the old card from the game and put the tokens on my Stall Space onto the new card. It’s like giving my food court an upgrade!
When you’re in the Market, the price of Stalls goes down as you move from left to right. So, if you want a cheaper Stall, head towards the right! After you buy a Food Stall Card, all the other cards shift to the right to fill the gap. And don’t worry, a new card will be drawn from the Food Stall Deck and placed on the far left. That way, the Market is always stocked with fresh options for you to choose from.
Ponder this: Imagine you’re searching for the perfect food stall to add to your food court. You come across a Japanese stall that catches your eye. It’s priced at $5, a reasonable deal in your book. You carefully place your coins back in the reserve and proudly claim your new stall card from the market. Excitedly, you push the two other remaining cards to the right and draw a new card, filling the empty $7 space. It’s a never-ending cycle of choices and opportunities, but you’re making progress and finding treasures along the way.
3. Bring in Some Chefs
When it comes to putting together a memorable event, one thing that you should definitely take into account is the food. Good food can elevate any gathering and leave a lasting impression on your guests. That’s why hiring professional chefs is essential.
By bringing in talented chefs, you can ensure that the food at your event is of the highest quality. These chefs have years of experience and know how to create delicious and visually stunning dishes that will wow your guests. They understand flavor profiles and can craft a menu that suits your preferences and dietary restrictions.
Not only do professional chefs create amazing food, but they also handle all the details that go into preparing a meal for a large group of people. They take care of everything from ingredient sourcing to cooking techniques, ensuring that each dish is cooked to perfection.
Another advantage of hiring chefs is that they can provide a personalized touch to your event. They will work closely with you to understand your vision and create a menu that reflects your style and taste. Whether you’re hosting an elegant dinner party or a casual backyard barbecue, they can tailor the menu to suit the occasion.
When you hire chefs, you can relax and enjoy your event knowing that the food is in capable hands. They will handle everything from start to finish, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your event planning. You won’t have to worry about the stress of cooking or the cleanup afterwards.
Finding the right chefs for your event is important. Look for professionals who are known for their skill and creativity. Read reviews, ask for recommendations, and take the time to interview potential candidates. It’s important to find chefs who understand your vision and can execute it flawlessly.
In conclusion, hiring chefs is a key factor in creating a memorable event. Their culinary expertise and attention to detail will ensure that the food at your event is top-notch. So, if you want to impress your guests and create a lasting impression, consider bringing in some chefs for your next event.
Hey there! Let’s talk about the Chef for Hire and how you can bring them to your Food Court. It’s super easy!
Now, here’s the deal: you can hire the Chef for Hire once per turn, and all it takes is 4 bucks. They’ll come to your Food Court and start working their magic.
Having the Chef for Hire in your Food Court can be a game-changer. They know their stuff when it comes to cooking and can whip up some seriously delicious dishes. And let me tell you, customers love that!
But wait, there’s more! The Chef for Hire isn’t just any ordinary cook. They have a special ability that makes them even more valuable. When they’re around, you’ll notice that your Food Court starts attracting even more customers. It’s like magic!
So, if you want to take your Food Court to the next level, the Chef for Hire is the way to go. Just remember, it’ll cost you 4 bucks each time you want to bring them in. But trust me, it’s totally worth it!
Did you know that in the Market, there are 2 Special Chefs that you can potentially hire? These chefs are pretty special because they don’t cost any money, but they do have some unique requirements that you need to meet in order to hire them.
Now here’s the catch: each Special Chef can only be hired once. Once you hire them, you won’t be able to hire them again. But the good news is that they will reward you with 3 Popularity points. Pretty neat, right?
When you do hire a Special Chef, make sure to place one of your Player Markers on top of their card to show that they are working for you. Who knows, maybe they’ll show up again in your next game!
