Fast Sloths Game Rules
Introduction
Welcome to the exciting world of Fast Sloths! In this game, you will embark on a thrilling adventure with our favorite slow-moving creatures – sloths. Hang on tight as we take you through the rules and guidelines for playing this exhilarating game.
Objective
The objective of Fast Sloths is to race against other players and be the first sloth to reach the finish line. You will navigate through a challenging course filled with obstacles, using your skills, strategy, and a bit of luck to claim victory.
Game Set-Up
To set up the game, you will need a game board featuring the racecourse, sloth tokens for each player, a die, and a deck of action cards. Each player chooses a sloth token, places it at the starting line, and shuffles the action cards. Now, you’re ready to begin!
Gameplay
On your turn, roll the die to determine how many spaces your sloth can move. Then, draw an action card from the deck and follow its instructions. Action cards can either help you advance or hinder your opponents, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game.
Throughout the race, you will encounter various obstacles, such as slippery branches or mischievous monkeys. These obstacles may slow you down or force you to go back a few spaces, so be prepared for unexpected challenges!
Strategy Tips
To increase your chances of winning, consider these strategy tips:
1. Plan ahead: Anticipate the best path to reach the finish line while avoiding obstacles. Look for shortcuts or ways to gain an advantage over other players.
2. Use action cards wisely: Timing is everything! Save powerful action cards for critical moments when they can make the most impact.
3. Watch your opponents: Pay attention to their progress and try to disrupt their plans whenever possible. Use action cards strategically to slow them down or redirect their path.
4. Stay focused: Keep your eye on the prize and don’t get discouraged if you encounter setbacks along the way. Remember, it’s not over until the last sloth crosses the finish line!
Conclusion
Now that you know the rules of Fast Sloths, gather your friends or family, set up the game board, and get ready for an unforgettable race against the clock. May the fastest sloth win!

Setup for the First Game
- Alright, let’s get ready for the Fast Sloths race! Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to prepare everything you need. Start by putting the two-part Game Board on the table. Then, place your Sloth Boards and Sloths in front of you.
- This is your first game, so we’ll play with six Animal Species: the Donkeys (3 Discs), the Unicorn (1 Disc), the Crocodiles (2 Discs), the Elephants (2 Discs), the Eagle (1 Disc), and the Ants (10 Discs). Look at the big picture to see where each Animal Disc starts on the Game Board. Make sure you place them in the right spots.
Hey there! Let’s talk about the Cards of the Donkey. They play a pretty important role, you know?
So, here’s the deal:
First off, I want to let you in on something. The Cards of the Donkey are what we call a double-edged sword. What does that mean? Well, it means that they have both good and bad aspects. Pretty interesting, huh?
Now, let’s dig a little deeper into their meaning. The Cards of the Donkey are all about transformation and renewal. They’re kind of like a reset button for your life, offering you a chance to start fresh and make some positive changes.
But hold on, because it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. These cards can also bring about some challenges and turbulence along the way. When they show up in a reading, it’s a sign that some major shifts are on the horizon, and you’ll need to be ready to roll with the punches.
Here’s the thing, though: when you embrace the changes that the Cards of the Donkey bring, they can lead to incredible growth and personal development. They push you out of your comfort zone and force you to confront your fears and limitations.
So, if you’re up for the challenge, these cards can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and transformation. They’ll help you break free from old patterns and open up new possibilities in your life. Sounds pretty amazing, right?
All in all, the Cards of the Donkey are a force to be reckoned with. They have the power to shake things up and push you to become the best version of yourself. Just remember, change is never easy, but it’s often worth it.
If you’re looking for a little guidance or insight, a reading with the Cards of the Donkey might just be what you need. They’ll give you a fresh perspective and help you navigate the twists and turns of life. Give it a try and see where it takes you!
That’s all for now. Take care and embrace the power of the Cards of the Donkey!
In the animal world, different species have different values. Some animals have their own values that they prioritize above all else. But as a sloth, my only interest is in collecting leaves. In fact, I always have 10 cards representing leaves!
Now, let me tell you about the race. As a sloth participating in the race, I need to place one of my leaves on each of the 9 trees on the game board. This is how I show my participation and keep track of my progress.
So, here’s what’s happening in the big picture: we’re getting ready for a game with 3 Sloths! But before we dive in, we need to choose which Sloth will start the race. And while we’re at it, each of us needs to pick a tree to start at. Because, you know, Sloths love trees – it’s where we live! Now, it’s only fair that the last Sloth to start gets to pick the best starting tree. Once they’ve chosen, the rest of us pick a tree in the reverse order of play. We place our Sloth Tokens on our chosen trees and get our first Leaf from that tree to put on our Sloth Board. Oh, and just so you know, we start the game with no Cards in our hands!
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the rules, let me give you a quick rundown. During the race, we don’t move ourselves – that would be way too much work! Instead, we let the Animals carry us around. And to do that, we collect and play Cards from the 6 Animal Species. These Cards help us move the Animal Discs across the Game Board as far as possible. Now, at first, we only get low-value Cards, so the Animals move slowly. But as we keep taking Cards from the top of the Stacks, their values increase, and the Animals start moving faster. Unfortunately, things start to slow down again once we’ve taken the first 10 Cards. And just a heads up – when we play Cards for a specific Animal, we’ll put those Cards back below the matching Stack in ascending order. So, no shuffling! We’ll just cycle through the Card Stacks during the game.
The Game Board is where all the action happens! It’s divided into different landscape types: resort, forest, hill, plain, mountain, river, and bridge. Each type of landscape has its own rules for movement, which you can find on the Animal Species Cards.
Now, let’s talk about the paths. The paths between the resorts are only for humans. The animals, including us sloths, don’t pay any attention to them.
But here’s the exciting part: the tree spaces! These are the most important spaces for us sloths. You can find them on the resorts, forests, and plains. These spaces are where we’ll be hanging out, so make sure to keep an eye on them!
Time to Play
Alright, here’s the deal. We sloths are the ones playing, so whenever we say “you,” we mean us sloth tokens. And when we talk about all the other creatures, we refer to them as “Animals.”
Oh, and before we dive into the game, let me introduce you to Ronald. If Ronald can understand these rules, then I’m confident that anyone can! He’s been playing this game for years, so he’s a pro. Trust me, we’re in good hands with Ronald!
“Hey there, Ronald! So glad you asked, my friend. Let’s dive right in, shall we?”
Once you’ve picked your starting trees and snagged your first Leaf, the race is on!
Now, this is how it goes: we start with the starting Sloth, and from there it’s all about taking turns in a nice, clockwise fashion. Oh, by the way, on the Game Board, there are 8 more Leaves for every Sloth. But hey, you only need to grab 7 of ’em to secure that victory! And you know what? You can even skip one Leaf and still come out on top. Now that’s what I call strategy! So, go on and chart your course, my friend. Find the best path from tree to tree and explore almost every nook and cranny on the Game Board.
But here’s the thing – as you’re riding along, it’s super important to keep track of where all the Animals are. You see the other Sloths, they’re using those same Animals to get around. And guess what? Those “silly” Animals, they tend to roam around. They don’t always stick to the spot you want them to be. Can you believe it? They’re just being difficult, messing up our plans!
When it’s my turn, I always do the following three steps:
- I draw new cards from different animal stacks (this is obligatory).
“Yes, Ronald, you have to do this. It’s always good to have more cards, so there’s really no reason not to.”
“Yes, Ronald, you can choose not to do this if you want. But remember, this is how you win the race, so you probably want to do it most of the time.”
“Yes, Ronald, you have to do this. Even if you don’t like having to discard cards, having more cards is better, so you have to follow our rules.”
Once one of us collects our 8th leaf, we finish the round so that all the Sloths have the same number of turns. Then we determine the winner and take a well-deserved break from all this racing!
It’s Your Turn!
On the Sloth Board, you can always see how many Cards you need to draw, the maximum number of Cards an Animal can carry you, and the maximum number of Cards you can hold in your hand. Just look for the column with the current values, which is always right below the rightmost Leaf.
1. Get new cards from the animal stacks
When you start playing with a Leaf card, you need to look at the first column on your Sloth Board A. There, you’ll find a row that tells you how many Cards you need to draw. At the beginning of the game, this number is 3 Cards B.
You have to draw the top Card from three different Animal Stacks. Make sure to take these Cards into your hand. But remember, you can’t draw 2 or more Cards from the same Animal Stack, and you can’t look at all the Cards in the Stacks. You can only see the topmost Card in each Stack.
“No, Ronald, you can’t draw 2 Donkeys. ‘Different Animals’ truly means different Animals!”
After you collect the second Leaf C (and also later in the game when you collect more Leaves), you have to discard 1 Card from your hand of your choice D. Put this discarded Card face up below the matching Animal Stack so that you can draw it again later.
“Listen up, Ronald! It’s time to make a decision. You need to get rid of that Card right away. And don’t even think about drawing fewer Cards like you did on your Sloth Board. Trust me, it’s important to keep all the Animal Stacks moving.”
Imagine this: You’re playing a game, and one of the things you can do is ride on the back of an animal. How cool would that be? Just imagine hopping on a giant unicorn or a speedy cheetah and exploring the game world from a whole new perspective. It would definitely make the game more exciting and immersive.
2. Take a ride with an animal companion
Hey there! Now you have the option to let one of the Animals carry you to the other trees and collect those tasty Leaves. I just want to remind you, this is step A on your Sloth Board, and it’s totally up to you if you want to do it or not. If you decide to skip it, then let’s move on to step 3!
If you choose not to skip step A, the alternative is to play as many Cards of one Animal Species as you can, and add up all their movement points. This will allow you to move one Animal Disc of that Species.
Oh, and by the way, Ronald, I know you might have Cards from different Species in your hand, but in this case, you can only play Cards of one Animal Species. I know it’s a bit interesting! It also doesn’t matter if there are multiple Discs for a certain Species, like 3 Donkeys. You still have to choose just one Disc to move around.
When I’m playing this game, I sometimes end up with a lot of movement points. I might have 10 or even more points to use. And let me tell you, that’s a lot of spaces for my Animal Disc to cover in just one turn. But you know what? I love it! This game is all about racing, so it’s totally fine if the Animals are running around like crazy. We Sloths don’t mind one bit!
Here’s how you should move an Animal Disc:
- You can move any Animal Disc you want. There’s no rule that says you can only move your personal Animals. Nope, not in this race!
“Hey, Ronald, even if you always play with Elephants, remember that the other Sloths can move them too. It’s all fair game in this race!”
Example: I love exploring different places on my magical Unicorn. From enchanting resorts and majestic hills to vast plains and towering mountains, my Unicorn takes me on epic adventures. We even cross mystical bridges along the way! It’s an incredible journey that fills my heart with joy.
After I pick you up, I’ll carry you around until you decide to stop early or run out of movement points. Either way, it will end our ride!
When we reach our destination, I’ll let you off on a space of your choice. You can choose to be dropped on the same space I’m on or on a space next to it. Just like picking you up, dropping you off is free. It doesn’t cost any movement points!
This means you can’t stay on me to block me from moving for the other sloths. If I only cross the river using the bridges, I can only drop you off there or on the two land spaces next to the bridge!
As you can see on your Sloth Board, you can sit on resorts, forests, hills, plains, and bridges. You should never be dropped off on mountains or in the river. I can carry you across these types of landscapes, but I can’t drop you there!
“No, Ronald,” I said firmly, trying to stifle a laugh. “Even if you have extraordinary skills like swimming and being able to breathe in thin air, as a Sloth, it’s definitely not a good idea to be tossed into a river or placed on a mountain.”
Example: I’m going to tell you a story about a purple Sloth and a Unicorn. The Sloth is worth 3 points, and the Unicorn wants to pick it up and carry it across a bridge. Let’s see how it goes!
First, the Unicorn moves 1 space forward and reaches the Sloth. The Sloth is so happy to see the Unicorn! Now, the Unicorn picks up the Sloth and carries it in its magical horn while crossing the bridge.
But wait! The bridge is already occupied by an Ant. Uh-oh, the Unicorn can’t leave the bridge. So, it decides to stay on the bridge and drop the Sloth on the space next to the bridge.
And that’s the end of the story! The Unicorn couldn’t make it to the other side of the bridge, but it did manage to drop off the Sloth safely. The race is all about making strategic moves and navigating obstacles.
Now that you know the basics, are you ready for the race? Let’s have some fun!
Example: The green Sloth is worth 3 points to the Crocodile. The Crocodile picks up the Sloth and carries it to the tree. As they go, the Sloth grabs a Leaf. Then, the Crocodile moves the Sloth one more space before dropping it onto the forest.
Remember: Each Animal Species has its own special abilities that can override the basic rules.
“Hey, Ronald! Always pay attention to the special rules – they can give you an advantage in the race!”
To start your first game, you should learn about the special abilities of the 6 Animal Species in the “The 12 Animal Species” section.
Step 3: Keep an Eye on Your Hand Size
This step is simple. Just make sure you don’t have too many Cards in your hand.
Look at the column right below your rightmost Leaf. In that column, the third row will reveal your hand limit.
During the first few turns, if you only have one or two Leaves, you can hold 7 Cards in your hand.
If you have more Cards than the hand limit, you have to get rid of some Cards from your hand. Choose which Cards you want to get rid of, and put them face up below the matching Animal Stacks.
If you discard multiple Cards of the same Animal Species, put them in ascending order face up below the matching Animal Stack.
If you collect Leaves during the second step of your turn, your hand limit might change!
The Race to Victory
Once you have gathered your 8th Leaf, your turn is over. In very rare instances, you may be able to collect all 9 Leaves, surpassing the goal of the race and showing off your skills like an Animal (definitely not as lazy as a Sloth).
When it’s time to play Fast Sloths, each Sloth takes turns in a clockwise order, playing the same number of rounds.
The Sloth who collects the most Leaves among all of us is the winner.
If there’s a tie for the most Leaves, the Sloth with the highest total sum of movement points wins. Just add up the points from all the Animal Species on your Cards.
If there’s still a tie, well, we’re all just too lazy to care. Let’s take a break and enjoy our collected Leaves!
Setting up for the next game
After our first game, we’ve got a good handle on Fast Sloths.
For all the upcoming games, we just need to make these simple changes during setup:
- Choose a Game Board: Flip the two parts of the Game Board to select one of four configurations.
- Select Animal Species: Pick one Animal Species from each of the six pairs listed below. There are 64 unique combinations to choose from.
Hey there! Let’s talk about some cool ways to customize your gaming experience. When you’re playing a board game, it’s important to have options that make it unique and exciting for you. One way to do that is by choosing a different game board. You can switch things up by flipping the two parts of the game board and creating a whole new configuration. With four different setups to choose from, the possibilities are endless!
But why stop there? Let’s talk about the animal species in the game. There are six pairs of animals to choose from, and you get to pick one animal species from each pair. This means you have 64 different combinations to explore! How cool is that? You can mix and match to create your own unique combination of animals and see how they interact with each other on the game board.
So, go ahead and have fun with it! Make your gaming experience one-of-a-kind by choosing a different game board configuration and selecting your favorite animal species. With so many options to choose from, the excitement never ends. Happy gaming!
So, you’ve been playing a few games and now you want to spice things up a bit, huh? Well, lucky for you, you can actually choose from six different animal species to add to the mix!
But, watch out! This might make the games a bit more challenging and, at times, a bit strange. You see, not all terrains are accessible to every animal species. It’s a bit of a mixed bag!
Now, about the starting spaces for the animal discs: Take all the animal discs and place them next to their respective card stacks. When it’s time to choose your starting trees for the sloth tokens (and this time, start with the last player), you’ll also place the animal discs on the game board in rounds.
During the first round, you’ll choose your starting trees and place one animal disc on the board. Then, starting from the second round, each player will place another animal disc until you’ve placed them all.
One thing to keep in mind is that you might end up with a different number of discs on the board. That’s okay! Not all animal species can be found on every type of landscape, so make sure to check the cards for each animal species.
“Hey Ronald! Just a reminder, an Animal will come along and whisk you away from your tree, so it’s best not to put all your Discs near your starting spot!”
Once that’s settled, the race begins, and the initial Sloth takes its first turn!
