Welcome to the mysterious laboratory. It’s a room filled with puzzles and mysteries waiting to be solved. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to unravel these enigmas and find your way out. But beware! If you fail to solve all the puzzles in time, you’ll face dire consequences that are best left unimagined.

But before we begin: Resist the temptation to peek at the playing materials just yet! Instead, let’s read this guide together out loud, and follow each instruction carefully.

What’s in the Box?

To get started with this game, gather a few supplies: pencils, an eraser, paper, and ideally, a stopwatch. If you have scissors, they can be handy, but they’re not essential.

Setting Up

Place the book and the decoder disk on the table. Keep the “strange items” in the box for now.

Now, organize the cards into three piles based on what you see on their backs: Riddle Cards, Answer Cards, and Help Cards.

Before we begin, make sure you don’t peek at the front side of any cards. Take a moment to organize the Riddle Cards and Answer Cards in ascending order, based on their letters or numbers.

Now, it’s time to sort the Help Cards based on their symbols. Place them neatly on the side of the table. If you have multiple cards with the same symbol, stack them on top of each other. Start with the “1st CLUE” card, followed by the “2nd CLUE” card, and finally the “SOLUTION” card.

Note: Only one help card is available for the symbol.

Now, at the start of the game, you’ll only have two things: a book and a decoder disk. These are your trusty tools to help you along the way.

As you progress through the game, you’ll come across something called Riddle Cards. You can find these cards in the illustrations or mentioned in the text. And when you do, you can pick the corresponding cards from the Riddle Card pile and take a look at them.

Oh, and there are these “strange items” in the box too. But don’t touch them! You can only use them when the game explicitly tells you that you’ve found them. Until then, keep them safely tucked away in the box.

For example: If you come across an illustration like this, you can immediately take the corresponding Riddle Card out of the pile and look at it.

How to Play

The goal is for us to escape together from the secret laboratory as quickly as we can.

That would be easier if it wasn’t for the fact that every lock in the room is secured with a riddle. Throughout the game, we’ll find objects that are locked with a code consisting of three colored vessels.

To open them, we have to figure out the correct code and enter it into the decoder disk. The edge of the disk has 10 different symbols. Each symbol represents a code that needs to be cracked.

Okay, folks, here’s the deal. You’re gonna need to use those smarts of yours to crack these tricky codes. Pay close attention to every little detail. Trust me, it’ll make a difference.

If you think you’ve got a code figured out, enter it under the symbol it corresponds to on the disk. Then, take a peek through the viewing window on the smallest wheel. You’ll see a number pop up.

That number is gonna tell you which Answer Card you’re allowed to check out next. If the code you entered is wrong, you’ll have to keep searching for the right one. Don’t worry, though. You can always switch to another riddle in the meantime. But let’s hope you get it right on the first try!

If your code is spot on, the Answer Card will give you the lowdown on what to do next. It’s like having a personal guide to help you navigate this whole puzzle.

Where can I find the symbol code?

Great question! To figure out where it is, you’ll need to carefully examine the pictures in the book or on the Riddle Cards. You’ll find all the objects that could be locked in those spots.

When you see a symbol on an object, it means something important. Let’s use a bottle with a symbol on it as an example.

Let’s keep going with this example situation: Now, check out the Answer Card shown beside the bottle on the card. You’ll notice that you need to grab Answer Card 18 from the stack.

Is The Code Really Correct?

If yes, I’ll let you know how to proceed. You’ll receive one or more new Riddle Cards that you can immediately look at.

But what if the code is actually incorrect?

Well, in that case, you must have made a mistake. Don’t worry, just take some more time to think about it and come up with a different answer.

Whether your answer is right or wrong, please return all Answer Cards to the Answer Card pile. Remember, all the codes can be solved logically. Trying all possible combinations on the disc won’t do the trick.

Do You Need Assistance?

Don’t worry if you get stuck. The game has got your back. For each code, there are three Help Cards with a special symbol on the back. Look out for them!

When you come across a “1st CLUE” Help Card, it’s like stumbling upon your first clue in a treasure hunt. It’s a valuable starting point that sets you on the right path. The card also tells you which Riddle Cards you need to have in order to solve the riddle, giving you a clear goal to work towards.

But don’t worry if you find yourself stuck even after finding the first clue. That’s where the “2nd CLUE” Help Cards come in. They offer more concrete guidance to help you solve the riddle. These cards give you an extra boost, making the path to the solution a little clearer.

And when you’re really stumped, the “SOLUTION” Help Cards come to the rescue. They provide the answer to the riddle, allowing you to move forward and discover the next challenge.

Remember, it’s important to always use the Help Cards that correspond to a specific Riddle Card or riddle. These riddles are marked with a symbol that matches one on the decoder disk. So, don’t try to use Help Cards without the proper symbol – it won’t get you anywhere!
