Hey there! Are you ready to learn how to play the super fun Drop It game? Well, you’re in luck because I’m here to explain all the rules to you. And trust me, it’s gonna be a blast!
If you’ve never played Drop It before, don’t worry. I’ll break it down for you. The game is pretty simple, but it’s also full of surprises. So get ready to think strategically and have a great time!
The Goal
The main objective of the game is to strategically drop different shaped pieces into a vertical game board. The goal is to earn points by getting your pieces to land in the best positions. Sounds exciting, right?
The Game Board
The game board consists of a vertical structure with a variety of slots. Each slot has a different point value. Some slots may even have special modifiers that can increase or decrease your score. It’s important to carefully consider where you want to drop your pieces!
The Pieces
Now, let’s talk about the pieces. Each player takes turns dropping unique-shaped pieces from the top of the game board. You’ll have to strategically choose which piece to drop and where to drop it. Remember, every move counts!
Strategy and Challenges
As you play the game, you’ll quickly realize that there’s more to it than just dropping pieces. You’ll need to think strategically and anticipate where your opponents will drop their pieces. It’s like a mind game within a game! And trust me, it can get pretty intense.
Oh, and watch out for obstacles! The game might throw some unexpected challenges your way, like barriers that can block your piece from falling where you want it to. But hey, that’s all part of the excitement!
Scoring
Now, let’s talk about scoring. As I mentioned earlier, each slot on the game board has a point value. When you drop a piece into a slot, you earn the corresponding points. But remember, some slots have special modifiers that can change the value of your piece. So choose your drops wisely!
The Winner
At the end of the game, the player with the highest score wins. Just make sure to keep an eye on your opponents’ moves and adjust your strategy accordingly. You never know when someone might make a game-changing drop!
Well, there you have it – the rules of the Drop It game. It’s a game of strategy, anticipation, and a whole lot of fun. So gather your friends, set up the game board, and let the exciting drops begin!
Let’s get started! Pick a shape and drop it in the drop zone. If you’re not sure which shape to choose, don’t worry, I’ll explain the rules to you. If your shape doesn’t break any rules when it lands, you’ll earn points. The higher your shape lands and if it touches any bonus circles, the more points you’ll score!
It’s your turn! Take your time to pick the perfect spot and drop your shape. Once you’re done, it’s my turn. We’ll keep taking turns until all of our shapes have been dropped. Then comes the moment of truth – we tally up the points to see who came out on top. The player with the most points wins!
What You’ll Need
Let’s Get Set Up!
First things first, we need to set up the game. Just follow these simple steps:
- Put the game board right in the center of the table. That way, everyone can reach it easily.
- Next, place the scoring track right next to the game board. It’s important to keep it nearby so we can keep track of our scores.
- Each player should grab their score marker and place it on the large yellow starting space. That’s where we’ll all begin the game.
Quick Tip: For the base game, we don’t need the two side-edge pieces with shapes or the jokers. So go ahead and leave those out.
Let’s Talk About Shapes
Playing with Four Players
When playing this game, all the players are given a full set of shapes in one color, along with a score marker and a point token that match their color.
For games with three players:
When you play the game, you will receive all the shapes in your chosen color. This includes the score marker and point token that match your color. Don’t forget to also divide the shapes of the unused color among the players or teams.
If there are two players or two teams:
In the game, each team or player receives two sets of shapes, a matching score marker, and point tokens.
Let’s Play
The player who had a birthday most recently starts. Each player takes turns dropping one of their shapes into the drop zone. Here’s what you do when it’s your turn. After that, it’s the next player’s turn, going in a clockwise direction.
- Pick one of your shapes.
- Drop it into the drop zone.
- Make sure your shape didn’t break any landing rules.
- If your shape followed all the landing rules, determine how many points you earned.
- Advance your score marker on the scoring track based on the number of points you got.
Rules for Landing
Hey there! Let’s talk about the rules for where your shape can end up after you drop it, okay? These rules are important to keep in mind if you want to succeed in the game.
Rule #1: Shape
Your shape cannot touch any other shapes that have the same shape as it.
Rule #2: Color
Your shape cannot touch any shapes that have the same color as it.
Rule #3: Edge
Your shape cannot touch any edges of the drop zone that have the same color or shape symbols printed on them. This applies to the side-edge pieces and bottom-edge pieces.
It’s important to note that this rule only applies to the edges of the drop zone, not the whole level or the column above a bottom-edge symbol.
Rule #4: Height
Your shape cannot stick out above the top of the drop zone on the vertical game board.
When you don’t follow any of the landing rules, you don’t get any points for that shape.
Getting Points
- Earning Points: Figure out the highest level that your shape reached. You get as many points as the level it landed on.
- The big bonus circle: 1 point
- The middle-sized bonus circle: 2 points
- The small bonus circle: 3 points
In this example, the blue square is only touching a yellow edge and a red triangle. It didn’t break any landing rules. So, it gets 5 points for landing (at least partly) on level 5 and 2 bonus points for overlapping a middle-sized bonus circle. This adds up to a total of 7 points.
Point Tokens: If you get more than 25 points, put your point token with the “+25” side up on the matching color space on the scoring track.
If you get more than 50 points, flip your point token so the “+50” side is showing. If you’re playing with two people or teams, use your second point token if needed.
End of the Game
Once all the players have placed their final shapes and calculated their earned points, the game is finished.
The winner is the player with the most points!
Remember to count your “+25” or “+50” point tokens. If there’s a tie, all the tied players are winners.
- When it’s your turn, you can turn the game board towards you. Just be careful not to accidentally move the shapes in the drop zone!
When you play this game, it’s crucial to remember that the points are awarded right after you drop your shape. So, even if your shape moves afterwards, it won’t affect your score! Once you earn points, they can’t be taken away. Keep this in mind as you strategize your moves.
