Dragon’s Gold Game Rules

Hey there! Welcome to the world of Dragon’s Gold, where fortune awaits the brave. Prepare yourself for an epic adventure filled with danger, mystery, and, of course, heaps of gold!

Now, let’s talk about the rules of this thrilling game. Pay close attention, my friend, for only the most cunning and strategic players will emerge victorious.

First things first. Each player controls a brave band of adventurers who have embarked on a perilous quest to conquer the dragon’s lair. The goal? To amass as much gold as possible, of course! But be warned, the dragon won’t make it easy for you.

As the game progresses, you’ll encounter various challenges and obstacles along the way. Some encounters will be more treacherous than others, so choose your battles wisely. After all, it’s not just about the gold, but also about surviving to tell the tale.

In order to seize the dragon’s gold, you must negotiate with your fellow adventurers. Trust me, diplomacy is key in this game. You’ll need to form alliances, strike deals, and, at times, betray your companions to get what you want. Just remember, in the world of Dragon’s Gold, loyalty is a rare commodity.

Once you’ve successfully negotiated with your rivals, it’s time to divide the spoils. And here’s where things get really interesting. You see, the value of the gold is determined by its type, and different types have different values. So, you’ll need to carefully consider which treasures are worth keeping and which ones are better left behind.

But beware! The dragon watches your every move. At any moment, it may decide to attack, and when it does, chaos ensues. Your carefully planned strategies may crumble, and you’ll have to adapt quickly if you want to survive.

As the game progresses, you’ll earn victory points based on the gold you’ve collected, as well as any bonuses you may have acquired. The player with the most victory points at the end of the game emerges as the true champion.

So, what are you waiting for? Gather your courage, assemble your team, and embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Dragon’s Gold awaits, and the treasures within are calling your name. Will you answer the call?

  • There are 18 Dragon cards and one Market card.
  • There are 24 Adventurer cards, with 4 cards in each of the 6 colors.
  • There are 24 Magic Object cards.
  • There are 6 Score cards.
  • There are 6 Treasure Screens & Scoring summaries.
  • There is a cloth bag for holding the Treasure tokens.
  • There are 126 wooden Treasure tokens.
  • There is a sixty-second sand timer.

Setting Up

Here’s what you need to do to get started:

  • Each player will need a set of 4 Adventurer cards, all of the same color. These cards include 2 knights, a thief, and a wizard. Place the cards in a row, face up, in front of you.
  • Each player will need a treasure screen to hide their treasures from the other players.

So here’s the deal. We start with a bunch of Dragon cards, right? They’re all mixed up and kept face-down in the middle of the table. That pile becomes our draw pile for the Dragon cards. Pretty straightforward so far, right?

Now, we need some Dragons to go after. The top four Dragon cards from that draw pile are flipped over and placed in a neat row in the middle of the table. Those are the Dragons we can attack – our first targets. Exciting, isn’t it?

When you see a Dragon card on the table, get ready for some excitement! Each Dragon card has a number on the bottom left. This number tells you how many tokens you need to draw from the bag.

The Market card is special. It gets placed right in the middle of the Dragon Draw Pile, between the 7th and 8th remaining Dragons. It’s like the heart of the game!

Here’s an advanced rule for you: we have Magic Object cards, too! These are shuffled and each player gets one facedown. I bet you can’t wait to see what’s on your card! The rest go in a draw pile next to the Dragon cards.

The player who has slain the most recent dragon gets to go first. They’re the hero who gets the first turn!

Dragon Cards

When playing the game, there’s always a need for four face-up Dragons in the center of the table. These are the Dragons that players can attack. If a Dragon gets defeated, it’s removed from the game and a new Dragon takes its place from the top of the deck.

Each Dragon card has a number at the top center that shows its strength.

Hey there! Let me explain how you can find out how much treasure the Dragon has. Each card has numbers at the bottom that will tell you. It’s pretty simple, really. The treasure is divided into two parts:

  • The first part is already known. When you put the Dragon in the middle of the table, you get to draw a certain number of random tokens from the treasure bag. The number of tokens to be drawn is shown in the bottom left corner of the card.
  • The second part is a surprise. As soon as the Dragon is defeated, you get to draw more tokens from the treasure bag. But this time, the number of tokens you draw is a secret and you won’t know until you defeat the Dragon. These tokens are placed on top of the tokens in the lower right corner of the card, before you negotiate how to share the treasure.

By the way, all the treasure tokens that go on the card are chosen randomly from the treasure bag. So, you never know what you might get! Have fun hunting for treasure!

Adventure Cards

Hey there! Did you know that in this game, I get to be an adventurer? Cool, right? I have these special cards called Adventure Cards, and I get to use them to go on exciting quests and battles. Each player, including me, has four Adventurers. On each card, there’s a number right in the middle at the top. That number is called the attack value. It tells me how strong my Adventurers are in battle. But wait, there’s more! The Thieves and Wizards also have special powers. These powers make them even more awesome. Oh, and don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about their powers and how to use them when we get to the part about sharing treasure. So, are you ready to join me on this thrilling adventure?

Okay, so here’s the deal. At the start of the game, everyone puts out their four adventurer cards face up. These adventurers are like your warriors that you send off to attack Dragons. Pretty cool, right? Now, when you defeat a Dragon, your Adventurer comes back to you, but you have to keep it face-down.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. If you find yourself in a turn where you have no face-up Adventurers left to battle Dragons, don’t worry! You just flip all your face-down Adventurers back up, and they’re ready for battle again!

Let’s Play the Game

So, who goes first? Well, it’s actually the person who last killed a Dragon. But if you want, you can always use the random method and pick a player to go first. From there, players take turns in a clockwise order. Simple, right?

Now, during each turn, your goal is to take out those sneaky Dragons. As soon as you defeat a Dragon, you get its treasure. And by treasure, I mean tokens that match the Dragon’s hidden treasure value. So, the more Dragons you defeat, the richer you become!

When a Dragon is defeated by just one player, that lucky adventurer gets to claim all of its treasure. However, if multiple players joined forces to vanquish the beast, they must come to a mutual agreement on how to divide the spoils. The catch is, they only have a limited amount of time to make this important decision.

How to Battle Dragons

When I play the game, I have the opportunity to send my adventurer to engage in battle with one of the mighty Dragons. It doesn’t matter how many other adventurers are fighting a specific Dragon, I can still choose to attack it.

To launch my attack, I simply place my adventurer card face up under the Dragon card. This visually indicates that my adventurer is now attacking the Dragon. I can stack multiple adventurers on the same Dragon, aligning their cards so I can see the colors, attack values, and the Dragon’s strength.

As I add more adventurers to the Dragon’s attack, I add up the attack values of all the adventurers currently battling that Dragon. Then, I compare this total to the Dragon’s strength which is shown as the number in the top center of the Dragon card.

If the total attack strength of the adventurers is less than the Dragon’s power, nothing happens. The Dragon stays alive, and the adventurers continue fighting. Then it’s the next player’s turn.

But if the combined attack strength equals or surpasses the Dragon’s power, it gets defeated. And that’s when the players can divide the treasure.

Now let’s talk about the treasure of a defeated Dragon. Once a Dragon is killed, its hoard gets completed by drawing a certain number of tokens, which is specified on the Dragon card.

If the adventurers who defeated the Dragon all belong to one player, that player gets to take the entire treasure and hide it behind their screen.

But if the adventurers who defeated the Dragon belong to multiple players, the sand timer is turned over.

As soon as I turn over the sand timer, you and I need to figure out how to split the treasure. We have to do it quickly because we only have 60 seconds.

If we are the ones who defeated the dragon, and we both agree on how to divide the treasure, then we will split it the way we agreed.

Here are the rules for our negotiation:

Remember, we have to follow these rules when we divide the treasure:

    • We can’t leave anything up to chance. We can’t roll a dice or flip a coin to decide who gets what. We have to be specific about who gets each part of the treasure. We can’t just randomly divide it.
    • We have to divide all of the treasure. We can’t throw anything away.
    • The players can’t seem to agree on anything except for how to divide the treasure. They have different opinions on how to share future treasures.
    • If the sand timer runs out before they can agree on how to split the treasure, the treasure is taken out of the game. It’s not put back in the bag, but placed in the lid of the box.

    Negotiating with Wizards and thieves

If one or more Wizards were present when a Dragon was killed:

How to play Dragon s Gold Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When it’s just me, the lone Wizard, I have one priority – to get my hands on those Magic Objects, the coveted red tokens. Before any negotiation even begins, I swoop in and snatch up any red tokens that are up for grabs. It’s a perk of being the solo Wizard in the group.

Even if negotiations fall through and we end up empty-handed, I still get to keep my precious Magic Objects.

But things change when there’s more than one Wizard in the mix. If we team up to attack the Dragon, then the red tokens become part of the treasure trove we’re all vying for. They get divvied up along with the rest of the loot during our negotiations.

Now, here’s an advanced rule for the seasoned players: in this version, the red tokens are always on the table. They’re up for negotiation, no matter how many Wizards are involved. Forget about the old rule – everyone has a shot at those magical treasures.

When I’m playing as a Wizard and I end up with a red token in my share of the spoils, I also get to take the top Magic Object card from the deck. If I get two or more red tokens, I get to draw one Magic Object card for each token.

However, if I don’t have a Wizard involved in killing the Dragon and I receive a red token as part of my treasure share, I don’t get to draw a Magic Object card.

Each Magic Object card can only be used once during the game and then it’s discarded. If we run out of Magic Objects in the deck, we shuffle the discard pile to create a new deck.

Now, let’s talk about what happens if there are thieves present at the slaying of a Dragon:

How to play Dragon s Gold Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Imagine this: you’re playing a game called Thief, and you’ve managed to kill a Dragon. Now, as the proud owner of the Thief, you get to do something pretty sneaky. You get to take a token from one of the other players involved in killing that same Dragon. But here’s the catch – you have to take it randomly, without knowing what’s behind the screen.

Now, if there are multiple thieves in the game, each one gets to make their thefts in the same order that the Thief cards were played to attack the Dragon. It’s like a little thieving contest!

Here’s something interesting: the thefts happen after the negotiation phase, whether or not the players managed to agree on how to share the treasure. So, if you couldn’t reach an agreement, the Thief swoops in and takes matters into their own hands.

Now, here’s an advanced rule for you: if a Thief manages to steal a red Magic Object token, they don’t get to draw a Magic Object card. Bummer, right? It’s one of the risks of the game.

Now, picture this scenario: you’re a player with both a Thief and a Wizard, and you’re attacking the same Dragon. Well, here’s an interesting twist. The Wizard actually helps the Thief in this situation. You have the power to look behind the screen and choose the token you want to steal, instead of leaving it all up to chance. Now that’s some serious teamwork!

    After dividing the shares,

    • I take back my adventurer card if I killed the Dragon and place it facedown in front of me.
    • The Dragon card is removed from the game and put back into the box.
    • A new Dragon is drawn from the top of the draw pile. I draw the known treasure (bottom-left number of tokens) from the bag and place it on the card.
    • The next player in turn sends out an adventurer to attack a Dragon.

    The Market

How to play Dragon s Gold Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Once the seventh Dragon is drawn and placed on the table, something exciting happens – a market opens up!

During the market, I don’t have to reveal the loot hiding behind my screen, but if I want to, I can.

For one minute, we can trade any treasure tokens we want. Just remember, we can only trade treasure tokens, and no new Magic Object cards are drawn during this time.

Once the market is finished, we remove the market card from the game and continue playing as usual.

    The Game’s End

When the last treasure token is taken from the bag, we know the game is almost over. It’s an exciting moment!

Starting from that moment, I can only attack the Dragons that are already on the table. Once I slay a Dragon, no new Dragons will appear from the draw pile to replace it.

Moreover, since there are no more tokens left to complete the treasure for the remaining Dragons, we must divide only the treasure that was placed when the Dragon card was drawn.

The game will come to an end when we have defeated the final Dragon and divided all of the treasure.

After the game ends, each player will reveal what they have in their treasure stash, and we will count the points. The player with the most points wins the game.

In the event of a tie, all players who are tied will be considered winners.

    Scoring for Treasure (basic Rule):
    1. Each silver piece is worth 1 point.
    2. Each gold piece is worth 3 points.
    3. Each magic object (red token) is worth 1 point.

The Importance of Scoring in Gemstone

When it comes to the game of Gemstone, scoring plays a vital role in determining the winner. Scoring allows you to keep track of your progress and see how well you’re doing compared to other players. In this article, I will explain the various scoring methods and their significance in Gemstone.

    Scoring for Gemstones:

    1. The Black Diamond is worth 7 points.
    2. For each of the five other colors (the gemstones in green, blue, purple, yellow, and the white diamonds), the player with the most tokens in that color scores 15 points (with 3 players), 12 points (with 4 or 5 players), 10 points (with 6 players). If players are tied for the highest total in a color, they each score the full bonus points.

    Scoring for Treasure (advanced Rules):

    1. Silver pieces are worth 1 point each.
    2. Gold pieces are worth 3 points each.
    3. Magic Objects (red tokens) are worth 1 point each.

The first thing I want to tell you about is the Black Diamond. It’s a special gemstone that’s worth a whopping 19 points. But here’s the twist: the Black Diamond comes with a curse. If you have the Black Diamond, you won’t score any points for the e) and f) paragraphs below. And that’s not all – if you happen to be the only player with the most gems of one color, no one gets points for that color.

Now let’s talk about sets of gemstones. A set of five gemstones, one in each color – green, blue, purple, yellow, and white – is worth 5 points. So if you have a complete set, you’ll get those 5 points added to your score.

Next, we have the color bonuses. For each of the five gemstone colors, the player with the most tokens in that color gets a big bonus. With 3 players, it’s 12 points. With 4 or 5 players, it’s 10 points. And with 6 players, it’s 8 points. But here’s the catch: if two players tie for the most tokens in a color, they split the bonus points in half. For example, if two players tie for first place, they each get 6 points instead of 12. And if 3 or more players tie, nobody gets any bonus points.

That’s a lot to take in, I know. But these rules add an extra strategic element to the game. It’s not just about collecting gems, but also about making smart decisions and trying to outsmart your opponents. So keep all of these factors in mind when you’re playing, and good luck!

When it comes to negotiation in this game, things can get tough and emotions can run high. But what if you’re not a fan of negotiating or you just want to avoid the stress altogether? Well, don’t worry, I’ve got a solution for you!

Instead of using a sand timer for negotiation, you can try this alternative method:

First, the player who has the least involvement in the fight (the lowest total attack value) will divide the treasure into shares. The number of shares will be equal to the number of players involved.

Next, starting with the player who has the highest total attack value, each player will choose their share. The player with the second-highest total attack value goes next, and so on. The player who divided the treasure in the first place will take the last remaining share.

But what happens if two players have the same attack value on a Dragon? In that case, the player who placed their character on the Dragon first will be considered stronger.

Finally, it’s important to note that each share must have at least one token. So make sure each player gets their fair share!
