All About the Game

Listen up, brave knights! The Queen needs your help to build a path through the kingdom. Those sneaky dragons are doing their best to stop us, but with the right strategy, we’ll outsmart them!

Our goal is to finish the path before we run out of tiles. To protect ourselves from the dragons, we have three special knight’s gear: a helmet, a shield, and a sword. We’ll use them at the perfect moment to defeat the dragons and secure victory!

Setting Up

To start the game, let’s place the knight’s gear tiles on the game board. To determine where each tile goes, we’ll roll the dice. Easy, right?

Let’s say you’re playing a game and you need to place the SHIELD on the board. To do this, you’ll need to roll some dice. The dice will give you a letter and a number. For instance, if you roll a B and a 6, you’ll place the SHIELD on the square at Column B and Row 6. It’s a simple way to determine where things go on the board!

Hey there! Let’s talk about the cool game called KNIGHT’S GEAR. It’s a game where you place tiles on a game board, but there’s a rule – you can’t put two KNIGHT’S GEAR tiles on the same square. If that happens, don’t worry! Just roll the dice again to find a different spot for the second tile.

Now, there are also DRAGON tiles and PATH tiles. You need to put them all face down in a draw pile. And that’s it! You’re all set to start playing KNIGHT’S GEAR!

How to Play the Game

Let’s get started! To decide who goes first, we can go with the youngest player. Once that’s settled, each player takes turns picking tiles from the pile.

If you happen to pick a tile with a “PATH” on it, you can place it on the game board. Just remember, the “PATH” on the tile needs to connect with an open end on the board.

If you’re playing the game for the first time, you need to connect the path tile to one of the paths that go outside the game board. If the first tile you draw doesn’t connect to any path, put it back and draw another one.

If you place a PATH tile on a square that already has a KNIGHT’S GEAR tile, you get to collect the KNIGHT’S GEAR tile and keep it aside. It will come in handy later when you need to defend against a DRAGON.

Here’s a helpful hint: You can work on both ends of the trail. Sometimes certain trail pieces are better suited for one end of the trail.

If you select a DRAGON tile, roll the two dice to find out where the DRAGON will go. If there’s already a DRAGON on that square, roll the dice again.

If the DRAGON lands on a KNIGHT’S GEAR tile that hasn’t been picked up yet, both the DRAGON tile and the KNIGHT’S GEAR tile are set aside in a discard pile.

If the DRAGON lands on a PATH tile, the PATH tile is replaced by the DRAGON on the game board, and the PATH tile is placed in the discard pile.

Hold on a second! If we’ve already got a KNIGHT’S GEAR tile, we can use it to defend ourselves against the dragon. Just grab your SHIELD, HELMET, or SWORD and the dragon won’t stand a chance. Remember to discard both the DRAGON and the KNIGHT’S GEAR tile you used.

Here’s a tip: Only use a KNIGHT’S GEAR tile when you really need it. If a DRAGON lands on a PATH tile that isn’t necessary to complete your path across the kingdom, let the dragon land and save your KNIGHT’S GEAR tile for later.

We take turns clockwise around the table, with the next player picking a new tile from the draw pile.

The Game’s End

In this cooperative game, it’s all or nothing. Either we all win together, or we all lose together!

If we run out of PATH tiles and our path doesn’t stretch from one end of the kingdom to the other, that’s it. The game is over and the dragons reign supreme.

If I can’t get through the path because there are dragons blocking every route, it’s game over and the dragons win.
