Rules of the “Don’t Say It” Game
Hey there! Do you want to have some fun while challenging your communication skills? Then get ready to play the “Don’t Say It” game! The rules are simple, but the game can be surprisingly tricky. Let’s dive in!
How to Play:
Here’s how it works: I’m going to give you a word, and your job is to describe it without using certain “forbidden” words associated with it. You can say whatever you want, as long as you avoid using those specific words.
For example, let’s say the word I give you is “dog,” and the forbidden words are “bark,” “pet,” “puppy,” and “canine.” Instead of using those words, you might say something like “It’s a furry friend that wags its tail and loves to play fetch.”
Remember, the goal is to challenge your imagination and vocabulary by finding alternative ways to communicate an idea while avoiding the restricted words.
The Challenge:
As the game progresses, the challenge gets tougher. I’ll give you harder words that have more forbidden words attached to them. You’ll need to think on your feet and get creative with your descriptions to stay in the game.
Try to come up with unique and unexpected ways to convey the meaning without using the obvious words. It’s like a puzzle for your brain!
Why It’s Great:
The “Don’t Say It” game is not only a fun way to spend time with friends and family, but it also helps improve your communication skills. By forcing you to think outside the box and find alternative ways to describe things, it enhances your vocabulary and ability to express yourself.
It’s also a great icebreaker for group activities or parties. Everyone can participate, and it brings lots of laughter and excitement to the atmosphere.
In Conclusion:
So, if you’re looking for a game that’s both entertaining and educational, give “Don’t Say It” a try. Challenge yourself and your friends, and see who can come up with the most creative and imaginative descriptions. Get ready to have a blast!

How to Play
The goal of the game is for one team to score a hundred or more points.
Getting Started
To begin, split into two teams based on age. Put the older players on one team and the younger players on the other.
Next, choose the level of difficulty: Easy, Medium, or Difficult. The difficulty you pick determines how many words you are NOT allowed to say as you try to get your team to guess the main word.
If you’re a younger player, you can go with Easy, which means you can’t say two words. But, if you’re older, you might want to go for Medium, where you can’t say three words, or Difficult, where you can’t say four words. (Check out the pictures for clarification).
So here’s what you do: mix up all the cards and put them in the top of the holder. The younger team goes first and gets to hold the cards.
How to Play the Game
When we start the game, one person from the starting team picks a level of difficulty: easy, medium, or hard. They then show a word to the other team and press a buzzer to begin their turn.
If the person can get their team to guess the word and there’s still time left, they move on to the next card with a new word and new forbidden words. This keeps going until the buzzer sounds.
Watch Out for Forbidden Words
Be careful! If you say any of the forbidden words, someone from the other team will press the buzzer – BOING! The card will be taken away, and the points listed on it will be subtracted from your team’s score.
But don’t worry, the game doesn’t stop! You keep going and use the new card that was just revealed.
When the Turn Ends
When 60 seconds have passed, a loud, final beep emanates from the buzzer. This signals the end of the team’s turn, and it’s time to tally up their score. Let me break it down for you:
- A yellow card is worth 1 point
- A blue card is worth 2 points
- A green card is worth 3 points
- A red card is worth 4 points
Now, here’s the tricky part. If you weren’t successful with any of your cards, you have to deduct points using the same color guide. It’s a double-edged sword, my friend.
Once the score is calculated, it’s time for the next team to take their turn. And so the game continues, with each team facing the same nail-biting challenge.
Now, let’s talk about the end of the game.
The ultimate goal is to be the first team to reach or pass 100 points. That’s when the victory dance begins. So, keep your eye on the prize and give it your all!
