How to Play Dixit

Playing Dixit is easy. Here’s what you need to know:

2. One player takes on the role of the storyteller for the round.
3. The storyteller selects a card from their hand and gives a clue or a phrase that relates to it.
4. The other players then select a card from their hand that they think matches the clue.
5. All the chosen cards are shuffled together and revealed.
6. The players must now guess which card belongs to the storyteller.
7. Points are awarded based on correct guesses, with bonus points for misleading clues and correct guesses on other players’ cards.

• Inside the box, there is a game board called the scoring track.
• You will find 84 cards.
• There are 36 voting tokens in 6 different colors, numbered from 1 to 6.
• Lastly, you will see 6 wooden rabbits called rabbeeples.

Setting Up the Game

First, choose a rabbit and place it on the space labeled 0 on the scoring track. Then, shuffle the 84 cards and give 6 of them to each player. The remaining cards will make up the draw pile.

• For 4 players, each player will take 4 voting tokens, numbered from 1 to 4.
• For 5 players, each player will take 5 voting tokens, numbered from 1 to 5.
• For 6 players, each player will take 6 voting tokens, numbered from 1 to 6.

Remember, you should not show your hand of cards to anyone during the game.

Playing the Game

The Storyteller

Let me tell you about a fun game called “Dixit.” In this game, one person becomes the storyteller for each turn. They have six cards in their hand, and they have to come up with a sentence using one of those cards.

The sentence can be as short as one word or longer if they want. It can even be a sound instead of a sentence. They can make up the sentence themselves or be inspired by something they know, like a poem, a song, a movie, or a proverb.

Now, who gets to be the storyteller for the first turn? Well, the first player who finds a sentence gets to be the storyteller for the first turn.

Choosing a card for the storyteller

So here’s how the game works: I’m the storyteller, and I’ll make up a sentence. The rest of you have to pick the picture that best matches my sentence. You’ll each give me your chosen card without showing it to anyone else. Then, I’ll shuffle all the cards together and place them face up on the table. The card on the left is number 1, the next one is number 2, and so on.

Now comes the fun part: voting!

Your job is to figure out which image is the one I picked. You’ll secretly vote for the card that you think belongs to me (I don’t get to vote). Let’s see who can crack the code!

To cast my vote, I simply place the voting token face down in front of me, matching it with the image I choose. Once everyone has voted, we reveal our tokens and place them on the corresponding images.

Just a quick note: you can’t vote for your own image, so keep that in mind!

After the voting, it’s time to end the turn. Each player will draw cards until they have 6 in their hand. And don’t forget, the next storyteller is the player to the left of the current one, and we keep going clockwise for the next turns.

Now, let’s talk about scoring. It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for!

If we all find the picture the storyteller described or if none of us find it, then nobody gets any points except, everyone who found the image gets 2 points.

But, if some of us find the picture, the storyteller gets 3 points and so do the players who found the image.

Except for the storyteller, everyone else gets a point for each vote they receive on their own picture.

We move our rabbits along the scoring track based on how many points we score.

The game ends

The game ends when we draw the last card. The person who is furthest along the scoring track wins.

Then, we count the number of squares that are left in our pieces. Each square is minus one point.
