Discover the Intriguing World of Deception: Undercover Allies
Welcome to the thrilling world of Deception: Undercover Allies! In this game, we will dive deep into the mysteries of deception and strategy. Let’s explore the game rules together.
The Objective
In Deception: Undercover Allies, your goal is to unravel the truth and identify the undercover spies within your group. By deciphering the clues, observing behaviors, and engaging in strategic discussions, you’ll need to find out who is deceiving you.
Setting up the Game
First, gather a group of 4 to 14 friends who are up for a thrilling adventure. Each player will receive their unique role card, which will determine if they are an innocent player, an undercover spy, or a special investigator.
Next, set up the game board, placing the City Deck, Murder Weapon Deck, and Motive Deck in their designated spots. Shuffle the Suspect Deck and place it face-down, then deal out suspect cards to each player according to the number of players.
Gameplay
The game is divided into several rounds. Each round, you will select a suspect card and reveal it to the other players. As the investigator, you will then ask questions to the other players in order to collect valuable information about their roles and suspicions.
You must be careful, though, as the undercover spies will try to mislead you with deceptive answers. As the investigator, it’s your mission to discern the truth and identify the spies while the spies aim to evade detection.
Once you have gathered enough information, you can make an accusation, declaring who you believe the spies are. If your accusation is correct, you win the game! However, if you accuse an innocent player, the spies gain an advantage and move closer to victory.
Special Abilities
Throughout the game, certain players may have special abilities that can assist or hinder the investigation. The special investigator, for example, has the ability to reveal their role to one other player each round, potentially building trust or sowing doubt.
The undercover spies, on the other hand, have access to secret communication, enabling them to strategize and mislead the investigator.
Mastering Deception: Undercover Allies
To become a master of Deception: Undercover Allies, you’ll need to carefully analyze the clues, observe behaviors, and engage in strategic discussions with your fellow players. Trust your instincts, but also be open to changing your suspicions as the game progresses.
Remember, deception is a double-edged sword. The more skilled you become at deceiving others, the more you must be on guard for the deceptive strategies of your opponents.
Are you ready to embark on this thrilling adventure? Gather your friends, hone your deception-detecting skills, and let the excitement begin!

In response to this growing crisis, the police force is bringing in reinforcements. But little do they know, the killer is also assembling a team of their own.
This exciting expansion for Deception: Murder in Hong Kong introduces an array of fresh elements. From new roles and scene tiles to intriguing clue and means cards, it breathes new life into the game, taking the suspense and thrill to a whole new level.

Introducing New Clue and Means Cards
Before we start playing the game with this expansion, we should mix the new Clue and Means cards with the ones from the base game. That way, we can use them in all future games of Deception and we don’t need to remove them between games.

Exploring New Scene Tiles
Just like the new Clue and Means cards, we can also combine the new Scene tiles with the original ones from the base game. This gives the Forensic Scientist more options for describing the crime scene and adds an extra layer of excitement to the game.
Scene Tiles |
Welcome to the New Event Tile!
Hey there! I’m here to tell you all about the new Event tile. Just like the original Event tiles, you can choose to use it or not. It’s up to you!
Introducing “The Perfect Crime”
Are you ready for a game-changer? Well, meet “The Perfect Crime” – the new Event tile that can shake things up in a big way! When the Forensic Scientist draws this tile, get ready for some excitement.
First, the Forensic Scientist secretly looks at the next tile in the draw deck and keeps it a mystery by setting it aside, face-down. They won’t reveal what they saw, so it’s a surprise for everyone!
Now, here’s where things get really interesting. If that tile happens to be an Event tile, guess what? The Forensic Scientist wins with the Murderer team! Plot twist!
But don’t worry, the game itself remains the same. The Forensic Scientist must still respond truthfully to attempts to solve the crime, and they must remain silent. So even with “The Perfect Crime,” the challenge stays intact.
Hey there! So, let me explain how this game works. The investigators and I are trying to solve a murder case, and I have some interesting tricks up my sleeve.
I can give you some hints by drawing new Scene tiles and replacing Bullet markers. It’s quite a challenge, but it keeps the game exciting!
Now, here’s the twist. I can also use the Bullet markers to mislead everyone if it benefits me. Sneaky, right?
When the game is over, I’ll reveal the special tile, which determines whether I win or lose. So, the pressure’s on!
Every once in a while, there’s a chance that the teams switch, like a big surprise. So, stay alert and watch for any changes in my behavior. You never know what might happen!
New and Exciting Roles
Guess what? We’ve got some new roles and special Badge tokens to make things even more interesting. Now, we can have up to 14 players in the game. How cool is that?
One of the new roles is the Protective Detail. They’re an optional addition, perfect for games with the Witness involved.
The Protective Detail starts the game knowing who the Witness is. They can help confuse the Murderer and Accomplice by diverting their attention from the real Witness. Talk about teamwork!
I don’t actually know who the Protective Detail is. But here’s the deal: if the Investigator team wins, the Protective Detail wins too.
So, if you’re playing with the Protective Detail, here’s what happens. The Forensic Scientist, after identifying the Witness, will need to add something to their setting up of “The Crime.” They say, “Protective Detail, open your eyes.”
The Forensic Scientist points to the Witness, just so everyone knows who they are. Then, the Protective Detail gives a little nod to show they got the message. Right after that, the Forensic Scientist says, “Protective Detail, close your eyes.”
Now, let’s say we’re using the new Roles of Lab Technician and Inside Man. Well, that means we need to change how the game goes a little bit. We need to add a new phase called the Allies Phase. This new phase happens after step 2a, which is the First Round of Evidence Collection, and before step 2b, which is the Second Round of Evidence Collection.
If you have 7 or more players in your game, you may want to consider adding the Lab Technician role. It’s not required, but it can add an extra layer of excitement.
As the Lab Technician, I have the ability to check 1 card in play during the Allies Phase. This helps me determine if it’s part of the solution to the crime. If the Investigator team wins, I win too!
Another optional role for larger games is the Inside Man. This role is recommended for games with 8 or more players.
During the Allies Phase, the Inside Man has the power to make one player lose their Badge token before they make a guess. It’s a sneaky move, and the Inside Man wins if the Murderer team wins.
Allies Phase
Now, let’s talk about the Allies Phase. During this phase, the Forensic Scientist will guide us through a round where we close our eyes and take secret actions.
Here’s what the Forensic Scientist will do:
Hey everyone, close your eyes and let’s begin.
Now, lab technician, open your eyes and pick one card from the table. Choose a clue or means card, and make sure the forensic scientist knows which one you’ve chosen. They’ll give you a thumbs up if you’ve picked the right card and a thumbs down if you haven’t. Once you’ve shown them the card, close your eyes again.
Sometimes, we need to make decisions that are based on the smallest of details. In a game called “Inside Man,” these details can mean the difference between solving a crime and letting a criminal escape. Let me explain how the game works.
First, the players are each given a role. One player becomes the Forensic Scientist, and they are the ones who know the truth about the crime. The other players take on different roles, like the Witness, the Murderer, the Accomplice, or the Investigators. Each role has its own special abilities and goals.
The game is played in rounds. In each round, the Forensic Scientist gives the players some clues, called “Evidence Cards,” to help them figure out who the Murderer is. The clues can be anything from descriptions of the crime scene to objects found at the scene. The players have to use these clues to ask questions and make deductions in order to solve the mystery.
During the game, there is a role called the Inside Man. This player secretly chooses a character card that represents one of the other players. The Inside Man’s goal is to help the Forensic Scientist without getting caught. At the beginning of each round, the Forensic Scientist says, “Inside Man, please open your eyes and point to any 1 player to have their Badge token removed.” The Forensic Scientist memorizes the player selected and then says, “Inside Man, close your eyes.” This ensures that the Inside Man doesn’t give away any information to the other players.
After the Inside Man has made their choice, the Forensic Scientist says, “Everyone, open your eyes,” and removes the Badge token from the chosen player. This process eliminates one player from the list of possible suspects and helps narrow down the investigation.
Once this step is complete, the game moves on to the next round of evidence collection. The players continue to gather clues and make deductions until they have enough evidence to identify the Murderer. The game can be played with different sets of roles, depending on the number of players and the desired level of difficulty.
So, if you’re into solving mysteries and love a good challenge, “Inside Man” is the game for you. Get ready to put your investigative skills to the test and see if you can catch the killer. Remember, the smallest detail could be the key to solving the crime. Good luck!
Choosing the right roles is vital for a thrilling game of Deception: Murder in Hong Kong. We have a few different options depending on the number of players. Let’s take a look:
– If there are 7 players, the roles will be: Forensic Scientist, Witness, Lab Technician, Murderer, Accomplice, and 2 Investigators.
– For games with 8 or more players, the roles are: Forensic Scientist, Witness, Lab Technician, Murderer, Accomplice, Inside Man, and 2 or more Investigators.
Note that if you’re using the Witness, you can replace an Investigator with the Protective Detail. This adds an extra challenge for the Murderer’s Team to win by Reversal. But if you want to eliminate the possibility of Reversal altogether, just replace the Witness with a regular Investigator.
And here’s a variant you can try for an even more challenging game: instead of the Forensic Scientist choosing from the original 4 tiles, use the new single “Location of Crime” tile. This will make it tougher for the Investigators.
Remember, the Golden Rule of Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is to have fun and enjoy the thrill of solving the mystery. Good luck!
