Welcome to Concept!

Are you ready for a game that will challenge your creativity and imagination? Look no further than Concept. In this game, you will have the opportunity to express your ideas using simple icons and guess what others are trying to convey.

How to Play

Concept is played on a board with different icons representing different concepts. The goal of the game is to guess the hidden concept by using different markers on the board.

One player acts as the clue giver, while the rest of the players guess the concept. The clue giver selects a card with the concept they want to convey, and then uses the markers to place their clues on the board.

The markers can represent various aspects of the concept, such as color, shape, and direction. For example, if the concept is a car, the clue giver can use a marker to indicate the color red and another marker to indicate wheels.

The other players try to guess the concept by interpreting the clues on the board. They can ask “yes” or “no” questions to gather more information. The clue giver can respond by placing more markers or moving existing markers to guide the players in the right direction.

The game continues until a player correctly guesses the hidden concept. Points are awarded based on the number of markers used and the difficulty of the concept. The player with the most points at the end wins!

Strategy Tips

Here are some tips to help you excel at Concept:

  • Think outside the box: Don’t be limited by conventional interpretations of the icons. Let your imagination run wild!
  • Observe the board: Pay attention to the markers placed by the clue giver. They can provide valuable hints.
  • Collaborate: Work together with your fellow players. Two heads are better than one!
  • Be strategic with your questions: Ask targeted questions to narrow down the possible concepts.
  • Practice empathy: Put yourself in the clue giver’s shoes. How would you convey the concept?

Conclusion

Concept is a game that stimulates your creativity and challenges your ability to communicate through symbols. Whether you’re playing with friends or family, it’s an experience that brings people together and encourages innovative thinking.

So, gather your friends, set up the game board, and let the concept come to life!

  • To play the game, you will need:
  • 1 game board with symbols that represent different concepts and ideas
  • 5 sets of pawns (game pieces) and cubes
  • 110 Concept cards, each featuring 9 words or phrases divided into three difficulty categories
  • Tokens for Single and Double victory points
  • 2 player aids to help you keep track of the game
  • 1 bowl to hold the pawns and cubes

Getting Started

To begin the game, place the game board with the symbols in the middle of the table where everyone can see it.

Shuffle the Concept cards and place them face down. Then, create a stack of 12 Double VP tokens and a pile of Single VP tokens.

Put the pawns and cubes in the bowl – you’ll need them later to guess the words!

Now, let’s figure out who will be on the first team. You can decide this however you like!

Let’s Play the Game!

Alright, let’s get right into it and start playing! The first thing we need to do is draw a Concept card. This card will give us a list of words or phrases that the other players will have to guess. Cool, right?

When it comes to choosing which word or phrase to use, I suggest starting with an Easy one. As we get more comfortable with the game, we can move on to more Challenging options that require everyone to be masters of the game.

So here’s how it works. I’ll start by placing a pawn that represents the word we’re trying to guess. Then, I’ll add cubes of the same color to give you a clue about this main concept. If I want to give you more details, I can use additional pawns and their corresponding colored cubes to create sub-concepts.

The goal is to be the first to guess the word correctly. If you do, you’ll win 1 Double token, which is worth 2 VPs. But even if you don’t guess the word, each member of the team whose word was guessed will win 1 Single token, worth 1 VP.

Once we’re done with the round, the next two players clockwise around the table will choose a new word for us to guess. And don’t worry, you can keep guessing as many times as you want.

But here’s the catch: the team members can only say “yes” if you’re on the right track. They can’t communicate with you directly in any other way.

When we play the game, the order in which we put the cubes on the board can be really important. If we want to make a cube more noticeable, we can always pick it up and put it down again.

It’s crucial for us to talk to each other and share our thoughts quietly because we might not be thinking the same way when it’s our turn to give clues.

We can place the cubes wherever we want, and we don’t have to take turns. We have the freedom to put down as many pawns and cubes as we think will help our teammates guess the word. However, we should be careful not to give them too much information and confuse them.

There’s no limit to the number of pieces we can use, and we won’t get penalized for using too many of them.

So, here’s the deal. If nobody can figure out the word after some time, we bring in a third player to help us out. But even with their help, if we still can’t guess it, we give up on the word and don’t get any points for that round.

The player aids have a bunch of meanings for the icons. You can check them out and see just how many different meanings there are.

If the other players are totally lost, we can start over and choose a different path. We just have to clear the board and start giving clues again.

When the Game Ends

Once all 12 Double VP tokens have been taken, the game is over. The player or players with the most VP wins the game.
