Welcome to the Clank! Temple of the Ape Lords Game Rules
The Quest Begins
Now that we’ve all gathered here, I want to talk about something that has been on my mind. You know, I really love board games, especially adventurous ones. They take me on these amazing journeys filled with surprises and challenges. And when I heard about Clank! Temple of the Ape Lords, I knew I had to try it out.
An Epic Adventure Awaits
So here’s the deal: Clank! Temple of the Ape Lords is an incredible game that places you, the daring player, on a quest to explore the ancient temple of the mysterious Ape Lords. Hidden deep within the temple are treasures beyond imagination, waiting to be claimed. But beware! The temple is guarded by sinister creatures and dangerous traps. Your every move must be strategic and calculated, as you navigate the treacherous pathways.
Understanding the Game
I gotta say, understanding the rules of this game is crucial. The gameplay revolves around the concept of building your own deck of cards. These cards represent your character’s skills and abilities. By playing cards, you can explore the temple, acquire powerful artifacts, and defeat enemies. But here’s the catch – the more noise you make, the louder your clank echoes through the temple. And trust me, you do not want to draw the attention of the Ape Lords.
Mastering the Art of Stealth
Now, listen up, ’cause this is important. If you want to succeed in Clank! Temple of the Ape Lords, you need to learn the art of strategic stealth. Moving quietly and avoiding fights is the key to survival. Every noise you make increases the danger level, so tread carefully, my friend. You’ll also need to manage your resources wisely, deciding when to spend them and when to save them for a rainy day. Trust me, it pays off!
Final Showdown
And now we come to the exciting part – the final showdown with the Ape Lords themselves. Once you’ve collected enough treasures and made your mark in the temple, it’s time to escape before it all comes crumbling down. But be warned, my friend, the Ape Lords will not let you leave without a fight. Your skills, strategy, and a little bit of luck will determine your success in this thrilling adventure.
Conclusion
So, my fellow adventurers, Clank! Temple of the Ape Lords is a game that will keep you hooked from start to finish. It’s all about strategy, stealth, and daring exploration. So gather your fellow gamers, dive into the temple, and embark on a quest that will leave you breathless. Are you ready to face the Ape Lords? I know I am!

New Adventures
Clank! Expeditions: Temple of the Ape Lords takes you on thrilling new deck-building journeys. The game introduces a fresh double-sided game board, each with its own set of special rules to keep you on your toes. But there are two important game elements that both sides share, ensuring an exciting experience no matter which side you choose:
The 33-point Artifact
Hey there! So, when I’m getting ready to play the game, I swap out the regular 30-point artifact token for a new 33-point artifact token on both sides of the board. It’s like a little upgrade!
Now, let me tell you about this cool artifact called the Time Winder. It’s pretty special.
When I’m setting up the game, I need to make sure I place the two Time Winder tokens with the other Market Items.
If I decide to buy one of the tokens from the market, I should immediately take out three cubes of my color from the Dragon Bag. It’s important to note that the Time Winder is worth 5 points at the end of the game.
The rest of the setup is the same as when I play CLANK! A Deck-Building Adventure. However, there are some specific rules for each side of the board that I need to consider. I’ll find those in the separate rules later.
Welcome to the Jungle
These rules only apply when I’m playing on the Jungle side of the board.
Additional Setup
Hey there! Let me explain how to set up the game with some funky ape-aratus tokens. I’ll guide you step by step, so stay with me.
First, grab the Bronze Guardian below the Clank! area. We’re going to place three ape-aratus tokens face-up on it. One will be a cog, one will be a monkey wrench, and one will be a banana. Cool, right?
Now, let’s move on to the tunnels between rooms. We have 15 more ape-aratus tokens left. Shuffle them face down and place one of those tokens on each marked space in the tunnels. As you place each token, make sure to turn it face up so everyone can see which kind it is. We don’t want any surprises!
Let’s Get Swinging!
When I’m exploring the board, I sometimes come across tunnels that have these Clank! icons. If I decide to move along one of these tunnels, I have to be careful because each icon I pass through adds 1 Clank! to the Clank! area. But if I use a teleport instead, I don’t have to worry about adding any Clank! cubes. However, if I run out of cubes in my personal supply, I can still move without any penalties.
Gaining an Ape-aratus Token
If I use my Boots to move along a tunnel with an ape-aratus token, I get to pick it up and place it face up in front of me. But if I use a teleport to move along the same tunnel, I don’t get to collect an ape-aratus token.
Defeating the Bronze Guardian
Have you heard of the Bronze Guardian? It’s a monster you can face in a game, and it’s unique because it’s not on a card but on the game board itself.
If you want to defeat the Bronze Guardian, you’ll need to spend 3 Swords. Once you’ve done that, you get to choose one of the ape-aratus tokens that were on it and keep it for yourself.
But here’s the catch – there are only three tokens on the Bronze Guardian. Once all of them have been taken, there won’t be any more rewards for defeating it.
What do the Ape-aratus Tokens do?
When the game ends, the tokens I’ve collected with the ape-aratus add to my total score. You can see the score just above the Bronze Guardian. For each type of token – cog, monkey wrench, and banana – I score points based on how many tokens I have. Let me give you an example. At the end of the game, imagine I’m the red player and I’ve collected four monkey wrench tokens. That means I score 16 points. I also have two cog tokens, which are worth 4 points, and one banana token, worth 1 point. In total, I collect 21 points from my ape-aratus tokens.
Now, let’s talk about playing on the Temple side of the board. The same rules apply, but there are a few additional setup steps. First, I need to sort the nine gear tokens by the number of sides they have. Then, I shuffle the three-sided gears and the four-sided gears separately.
I’m going to tell you something important about playing a game. It’s called “Gears”. Here’s what you need to do: take the nine gear tokens and put them on the board. Make sure each one goes in the right spot and is facing a different way. The three- and four-sided gears can go anywhere on the board. Have fun playing!
Once I place the tokens, I need to turn them face up. Keep in mind that each gear has the symbol of one of the three ape-aratus tokens on it (and these symbols don’t depend on the number of sides the gear has).
Now let me walk you through the steps:
1. I shuffle the 18 ape-aratus tokens face down and deal three to each of us. You can look at your own tokens, but don’t reveal them to me. The tokens we don’t use this game go back to the box without revealing them.
2. I shuffle the eight Rotation of Numerous Gears tokens face down (or the Rotation or RNG tokens). Then, I place one token face down on each marked space of the Rage Track. The other four tokens are stacked on the marked space above the Rage Track, the one that shows no cubes.
That’s it! We’re all set to start the game.
Hey there! Let’s talk about gears and how they affect movement in a game. The cool thing about gears is that each one has a unique setup of tunnels that connect and disconnect rooms on the game board. It’s kind of like a puzzle within a puzzle!
When you’re moving around the game board and you come across a gear token, things get a little more interesting. You can still move through tunnels that have gear tokens, just like you would normally. But here’s the twist: some of the tunnels that usually lead to a room may now be “dead ends” because they don’t line up with any tunnel on the gear.
So, if you’re trying to go through a tunnel that doesn’t match up with the gear, you’re out of luck. You can’t go that way, no matter what. Not even if you have a fancy teleporting ability! It’s like hitting a roadblock.
Now, some gears have tunnels that branch off in two directions. And how you move through these branching tunnels depends on which way you’re traveling across the gear. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure book!
When I get to the bottom of this gear, I can decide which tunnel I want to go through.
But here’s the thing: you can’t just change directions on a gear. It’s not that simple. When you’re moving downward, heading towards the bottom of the gear, you have to keep going and cross over to the next room. No turning back now!
Let’s talk about Gear Rotation
Gear tokens are a big deal in this game. They rotate and twist things around, changing how the tunnels connect to each other.
And you know what? You can actually make the gears rotate. During your turn, before or after you take other actions, you have the power to make it happen.
Here’s how it works: if you’re in a room next to a gear token, you can flip over one of your ape-aratus tokens. Just match the symbol on your token to the one on the gear token (it’s either a cog, a monkey wrench, or a banana), and spin that gear in any direction you want.
Don’t forget to return your ape-aratus token to the game box once you’re done. You can only use it once per game, so make it count. And hey, we all like to keep things tidy, right? So any unused ape-aratus tokens won’t earn you any points at the end of the game. No monkey business!
Gears can also spin when the boss gets really mad. When the Boss Marker reaches a spot on the Rage Track with a Rotation of Numerous Gears (RNG) token, you’ll see that token. Then, turn the gears that are pointed out one full rotation to the right:
Hey there! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of gears and how they work. You know, those circular contraptions with teeth that somehow make things move? Yeah, they’re pretty cool!
So, check it out. You’ve got three gears in front of you, each with a cute little ape-aratus symbol on it. Your task is to rotate all three gears, using the symbols as your guide. Trust me, once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel like a gear-master!
Now, gears are like a team that work together to make things happen. When you turn one gear, it sets off a chain reaction that gets all the other gears moving. It’s like a secret language only they understand.
Here’s the thing, though. Gears have different sizes, and that matters. The size of a gear affects how fast it spins and how much power it has. It’s a real balancing act! If you want the gears to mesh together smoothly, you gotta make sure the sizes match up just right.
So, when you’re rotating these gears, pay attention to their sizes and how they fit together. You want them to cooperate like best buddies, not get all jammed up and cranky.
Okay, now let’s talk about those nifty ape-aratus symbols. They’re like secret codes that tell you which way to turn each gear. Each symbol has a specific meaning, like a little gear dictionary.
For example, if you see an arrow pointing to the right, you’ll know it’s time to turn that gear clockwise. Or maybe you spot a funky curved line? That means you need to rotate the gear counterclockwise. It’s like a puzzle for your brain!
Remember, when you’re rotating those gears, take it slow and steady. It’s not a race. You wanna give each gear a chance to do its thing and work its magic. Be patient, and soon enough, you’ll see the awesome results of your gear-turning skills.
So, there you have it! Gears are like the secret codebreakers of the mechanical world. They come in different sizes, each with their own special symbol, and they work together to make things move. It’s pretty rad, if you ask me.
Now, my friend, let’s put your gear-turning prowess to the test. Get those gears spinning and watch the magic unfold!
Do you have a puzzling challenge ahead of you? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Let’s talk about gears and how they work. Gears are interesting mechanical devices that can do some pretty amazing things. You see, gears are round wheels with teeth on them, and when the teeth of two gears interlock, they can make other wheels turn. Pretty cool, right?
Now, let’s imagine you have nine gears in front of you. They are all connected, creating a sort of gear train. You want to rotate all nine gears, but here’s the twist: each gear can only rotate in one direction. Some gears turn clockwise, while others turn counterclockwise. So, how can you make sure all the gears rotate together?
Here’s where things get interesting. Gears are designed in such a way that when two gears interlock, they will always rotate in opposite directions. So, if you have a gear that turns clockwise, the gear it meshes with will turn counterclockwise. This means that by strategically connecting the gears, you can create a chain reaction that will make all nine gears rotate in unison. It’s like solving a puzzle!
The challenge lies in figuring out the right configuration of gears. You need to carefully choose which gears should mesh with each other to ensure that the rotation of one gear will cause the next gear to rotate in the opposite direction. It requires careful thought and analysis.
But don’t worry! You don’t have to be a gear expert to solve this. You just need to experiment and see what works. Try connecting different gears and observe how they interact. If they rotate in the same direction, try changing the arrangement until you find a combination that works. It might take some trial and error, but that’s part of the fun!
So, next time you’re faced with a gear challenge, remember that you can unlock its secrets by understanding how gears interlock. It’s all about finding the right connections and making the gears rotate harmoniously. Are you up for the challenge? Let’s get those gears spinning!
Don’t turn any of the gears.
If the rage level ever goes up, but the Boss Marker is already at the top of the Rage Track (with five cubes), we reveal one of the RNG tokens from the stack above the track and use it to turn the gears.
Once we’ve dealt with an RNG token, we put it back in the box.
A Short Adventure
Here’s a fun way to play CLANK! EXPEDITIONS: Temple of the Ape Lords. You can play two games in a row, first on the Jungle side of the board and then on the Temple side.
Let’s start by playing a full game on the Jungle side of the board. When the game ends, we’ll use each player’s final score to determine the Campaign tokens. The player with the highest score gets the 20-point Campaign token.
The player in second place gets the 10-point token, while the player in third place gets the 5-point token. However, the fourth place player (and any players who scored 0 points in the Depths) does not receive a Campaign token.
Now, it’s time to play on the Temple side of the board. Set everything up as you normally would at the start of a game, but with two changes. First, each player keeps the Campaign token they earned in the Jungle game. Second, they also keep all the ape-aratus tokens they collected during that game (instead of receiving three random face-down tokens at the beginning of the game).
When you play the Temple game, you’ll have the chance to use the ape-aratus tokens you collected in the first game. These tokens are used to rotate gears. Everyone can see which tokens you have, but you still spend them like usual. After you use a token, it goes back in the game box.
When the second game ends, you’ll count up your score. You’ll add the value of your Campaign token, which you earned in the first game. But you won’t get any points for the tokens you didn’t use. The player with the highest score wins the entire campaign!
