So, gather your resources, train your armies, and build a civilization that will go down in history!
Let me tell you about Attila the Hun. He was a famous warlord, known for his terrifying army of horsemen. For almost 20 years, they wreaked havoc on the people of Europe and Western Asia. Attila was especially feared by the powerful Roman Empire, thanks to his brutal tactics on the battlefield.
But what made Attila even more formidable was his skill and speed on horseback. Even when his army was defeated, they could always escape with their lives.
Now, in the year 451, you’ll step into Attila’s shoes. It’s the eve of the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains, where his horsemen will face off against the troops of the Roman general Flavius Aetius. This legendary battle will take place outside of modern-day Orleans, France.
The outcome of this conflict rests in your hands. It’s up to you to make the final decision. So, unleash your flaming arrows and outmaneuver your enemies. Leave them with nowhere left to run!

The Components
- You’ll receive 6 Knight tokens
- You’ll get 14 Scorched Earth tiles
- There are 2 small game boards
- There are 2 large game boards
- And you’ll find a rulebook
The Goal of the Game
Your aim is to cunningly maneuver your Knight tokens and strategically place Scorched Earth tiles to corner your opponent, leaving them with no available moves for their Knight tokens.
Setting Up
Create the playing surface by aligning the 4 game boards side by side (not diagonally).
For your initial matches, we suggest arranging the game boards to form a rectangular shape measuring 4 columns by 5 rows.
So, once you’ve had a chance to play a few games, you might want to mix things up and try a new set up. Take a look at these examples:
When we start playing the game, the youngest player is the first player. It’s exciting to be the first!
Now it’s my turn. I choose a Knight and place it on one of the empty squares on the game board. Then it’s your turn. We take turns adding our Knights to the board until all six Knights are placed. Once we’re done, the real game begins.
Remember: During the setup, we can’t place a Knight in a way that would completely trap one of our opponent’s Knights. That wouldn’t be fair. All pieces need to have legal moves at the start of the game.
Don’t worry if you’re new to the game. We recommend starting with the 4×5 grid and placing your Knights in one of these configurations:
How to Play the Game
When it’s your turn, you have to do two things in a specific order.
1. Move your Knight
First, you need to move one of your Knights. Knights move in an “L” shape, which is like a letter L. You can move your Knight to any of the three squares that make up the L shape.
Here is a distinctive version of the provided text, infused with originality and a personal tone:
Hey there! Let’s talk about the amazing strategies of chess movement. You know, I’ve always found it fascinating how you can move the chess pieces in different ways, each with its own style and purpose. It’s like solving a little puzzle with every move you make.
When it comes to moving the knight, things get really interesting. The knight has a special kind of power, allowing it to jump over other pieces in a way that no other chess piece can. It’s kind of like having a secret superpower!
Now, let me show you a couple of cool ways the knight can move. You can move it 2 squares forward and then 1 square to the side. Or, you can move it 1 square forward and then 2 squares to the side. It’s like a little dance, don’t you think?
Just to give you an idea, here are a few examples of possible knight moves:
- 2 squares forward, then 1 square to the side.
- 1 square forward, then 2 squares to the side.
Isn’t that neat? I love how each move feels like a clever little trick, keeping your opponent on their toes. So, next time you’re playing chess, remember the knight’s special powers and use them to your advantage.
Playing chess is all about making smart moves and outwitting your opponent. By following these strategies, you’ll become a master of the game in no time. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to go out there and conquer the chessboard!
When you play a game of Knights, you’ll find that they have a special way of moving. They can go across any square, even if it’s already occupied. But here’s the catch – a Knight must always end its move on a free square, one that doesn’t have another Knight or a Scorched Earth tile.
As you get better at the game, you might try more advanced board setups. Sometimes, a Knight’s move might take it outside of the game board, traveling over imaginary squares. But no matter where it goes, it always needs to finish its move back on a free square on the game board.
Now, here’s an important rule. If you find yourself in a situation where none of your Knights can make a move on your turn, then unfortunately, you lose the game. So always keep an eye on your Knights and plan your moves carefully!
2. Place a Scorched Earth tile on any of the free squares on the board
Okay, here’s what you need to do. Pick a spot on the game board where you want to put a Scorched Earth tile. Any empty square will do. Once you place the tile there, that square is off-limits for the rest of the game. No one can use it anymore. It’s like marking your territory.
End of the Game
Now, here’s how you win. If a player reaches his turn and can’t move any of his Knights anymore, he loses the game. So you better strategize and make sure that doesn’t happen to you. Keep those Knights moving and outsmart your opponents!
