Game of Thrones Orders: Understanding the Power Dynamics

The world of Game of Thrones is filled with various orders and organizations that play crucial roles in shaping its intricate narrative and political landscape. Understanding the power dynamics of these orders is essential for unraveling the complex web of alliances and rivalries that drive the story forward.

One such order is the Night’s Watch, a sworn brotherhood of men dedicated to protecting the realm from the dangers beyond the Wall. As a member of the Night’s Watch, I take on the honorable duty of defending Westeros from the mysterious and terrifying creatures that lurk in the icy wilderness.

The Kingsguard, on the other hand, is an elite group of warriors sworn to protect the king and the royal family. Their loyalty is unwavering, and they are known for their exceptional combat skills and unyielding devotion. Being a member of the Kingsguard means putting your life on the line for the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

The maesters, the scholars and healers of Westeros, form yet another significant order. They are responsible for advising the noble houses on matters of strategy, lore, and medicine. With their vast knowledge and wisdom, the maesters are indispensable in guiding the ruling class and ensuring the stability of the realm.

Furthermore, the Faceless Men are a clandestine order of assassins with the ability to change their appearance at will. They serve the Many-Faced God and carry out missions on behalf of him. Their enigmatic nature and deadly skills make them a force to be reckoned with.

Lastly, the Brotherhood Without Banners is a group dedicated to the protection of the smallfolk and the pursuit of justice. They operate outside the formal structure of the Seven Kingdoms and champion the rights of the common people. Their noble cause and determination make them formidable allies in the fight against oppression.

Understanding the different orders in Game of Thrones is essential for comprehending the complex tapestry of power struggles and alliances that define the series. Each order brings its unique strengths and ambitions to the table, shaping the destiny of Westeros and its inhabitants. Whether it’s the honor-bound Night’s Watch or the secretive Faceless Men, each order plays a vital role in the captivating world of Game of Thrones.

Hi there! Let’s talk about raid orders in the game of Thrones. Raid Orders are like aggressive incursions and pillaging of enemy lands. They’re all about disrupting the enemy’s plans and draining them of their precious resources. Pretty tricky, right?

We resolve a Raid Order during the first step of the Action Phase by using it to remove one adjacent enemy Support, Consolidate Power, or Raid Order. It’s a way to shake things up and keep our opponents on their toes!

Each player has two normal Raid Orders and one Special Raid Order. So, you have a few tricks up your sleeve to surprise everyone!

The March Order

The March Order is all about moving troops and ships across the lands and seas of Westeros. When we assign March Orders to our units on the game board, we can take control of new areas and even engage our opponents in combat. It’s a way to expand our influence and show everyone who’s boss!

When it’s time to take action in the game, March Orders come into play. They’re resolved in the second step of the Action Phase. Resolving these orders allows units in the assigned area to march, which means they can move to adjacent areas.

If marching units enter an area with enemy units, there will be a combat. Keep in mind that only one combat can be initiated for each March Order.

Each player has two regular March Orders. One comes with a -1 Combat Strength modifier, and the other has a +0 Combat Strength modifier. Additionally, there’s one Special March Order for each player.

The Defense Order

Defense Orders are all about preparing strong defensive positions. They provide a Combat Strength bonus to the defender of the assigned area. The bonus number is printed on the Order token.

When I play A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, there’s something called a Defense Order that I need to know about. This order is pretty powerful because it helps defend my assigned area. It gives a defensive bonus against any number of attacks that happen in the same round, as long as it doesn’t get removed during the Action Phase. If I lose a combat in the area where I placed the Defense Order, then it’s gone!

By the way, did you know that each player has two normal Defense Orders? Pretty handy, right? Both of them give me a +1 Combat Strength modifier, which is great for defending my territory. And there’s also a Special Defense Order that I can use.

The Support Order

The next type of order I want to tell you about is the Support Order. This order is all about helping out in battle. It’s like providing both logistical and martial assistance to the troops fighting nearby. And get this – I can use the Support Order for myself or even help another player! It’s a pretty big deal because it’s the key to negotiation and intrigue in the game. You never know who might be willing to lend a hand and who might betray you!

When it’s time to “Declare Support” in combat, you have the opportunity to get some backup. If you have supporting units next to the battle area, they can add their strength to one side or the other.

Each player has two regular Support Orders and one Special Support Order to use.

The Consolidate Power Order

The Consolidate Power Order is all about gaining an advantage. It’s how you build good relationships with the locals, collect taxes, and gather resources from your territory. This is the best way to get Power tokens from the Power Pool.

When I play the game, an important part is resolving Consolidate Power Orders. This happens during the third step of the Action Phase. Once resolved, the Order token is taken off the game board. In return, I gain one Power token from the Power Pool. On top of that, I get an additional Power token for every Power icon I see on the assigned area.

Now, I should note that Consolidate Power Orders placed on sea areas don’t have any effect. However, I can still place them if I want to.

As a player, I have two regular Consolidate Power Orders and one Special Consolidate Power Order. It’s important to keep all of this in mind during the game!
