Glossary for Game of Thrones: Lexicon

Area: An area refers to a specific region in the land of Westeros. These areas are represented on the game board and are categorized as either sea areas or land areas. Sea areas are denoted by red borders, while land areas are identified by white borders.

Army/Armies: When we talk about armies in the context of the Game of Thrones board game, we are referring to groups of two or more friendly units that are located in the same sea or land area. It’s important to note that a single unit occupying an area does not constitute an army and is not affected by supply changes.

Available Power: Available power refers to the power tokens that a player has in their possession and can use during gameplay. These power tokens are located in a player’s play area and are available for bidding or other expenditures. It’s worth mentioning that power tokens in the Power Pool are not considered available power. At the beginning of the game, each House receives five power tokens from the Power Pool, which can be used as available power.

Get/Get Rid of Power: When you’re told to get or collect power, you take the number of Power tokens with your House symbol from the Power Pool. When told to “get rid of” power, you take the Power tokens from your available power and put them back in the Power Pool. You can only get, collect, or get rid of Power tokens with your own House symbol.

Destroy: If a unit is destroyed during the game, it is taken off the game board and put back into your available units in your play area.

Battle Area: The area where a fight is happening.

Enemy/Rival: Describes anything in the game controlled by another player, or the other player themselves.

Friend/Friendly: These are the things in the game that belong to you. Your game pieces or the areas on the game board that you control.

Home Area: This is the area on the game board that has your House’s shield on it. For example, Winterfell is the home area for House Stark.

House/Player: When we talk about a player in these rules, we also mean the House that they control. The words “House” and “Player” mean the same thing in this game.

Turn Order: When different things happen in the game, they happen in a specific order. We call this the “turn order.” The first House on the Iron Throne Influence track goes first, followed by the second House, and so on.

Unit: This is what we call a plastic Ship, Footman, Knight, or Siege Engine in the game. Other things in the game, like Garrisons, Neutral Forces, or Influence tokens, are not units.
