So, here’s the deal: money, which you can recognize by the coin symbol, is pretty darn important in this game. It’s what you use to buy buildings and ships, pay off loans, get food, and, most importantly, win the game. The currency in this game is called Francs, just so you know.
Now, let’s get into some money-making strategies:
- The “Francs” space is where you can get your hands on some sweet Francs.
- The Joinery is a great place to sell wood for a good amount of Francs. You can sell 1 to 3 wood and make anywhere from 5 to 7 Francs.
- The Smokehouse, Bakery, Brickworks, Tannery, and Cokery will pay you subsidies – you get 1 Franc per good. Not too shabby!
- If you own some ships, you can use the Shipping Line to ship your goods and make some serious moolah. The quantity of goods you can ship depends on how many ships you have.
- The Bridge over the Seine is where you can sell your goods, but it’s best to save that for later in the game. Trust me on this one.
- The Zoo and Plant Nursery are special buildings that will give you some extra cash. Plus, there are 15 other Special buildings where you can sell your goods and make even more money.
Note: You can sell Buildings and Ships for half of their value whenever you want.
You can only take out a loan if you don’t have enough food during a Feeding phase or if you can’t pay the required Interest costs.
How Can I Get Energy?
You need Energy (which is represented by the light bulb symbol) to perform various upgrades.
- In the “Wood” Offer space, you can find wood (1 energy). Upgrade wood to charcoal (3 energy) at the Charcoal Kiln.
- The Colliery has 3-4 coal (3 energy each).
- Upgrade coal to coke (10 energy) in the Cokery.
- Exchange any 1 good for 1 charcoal (3 energy) at the Business Office.
- Often, the Black Market provides 2 wood.
- Special buildings like the Smelter, Town Square, Coal Trader, Labor Exchange, and Wind Farm offer unique energy-saving options.
How Can I Get Food?
Food is what we use to feed our workers and cover entry costs. You can recognize it by the cooking pot symbol.
- Remember, if you don’t have any food, you can always use money instead!
- If you’re looking for fish (which give 1 food each), check out the “Fish” Offer space.
- You can also get fish (1 food each) from the Fishery, or possibly find 2 fish at the Black Market.
- In the Smokehouse, you can upgrade fish to smoked fish, which give 2 food each.
- The Bakehouse can turn grain into bread, which provides 2 food each.
- If you send your cattle to the Abattoir, they’ll be upgraded to meat, which provides 3 food each. Remember, grain and cattle don’t provide any food until they’ve been upgraded.
- The Grocery Market has 8 food, along with 1 grain and 1 cattle to offer.
- Lastly, towards the end of the game, you can find 13 food at the Church.
The Special Buildings are pretty great. You’ve got the Hunting Lodge that gives you 9 units of food, the Furriery which converts hides into 2 units of food each, and the Town Square that can provide you with up to 7 units of food. These are some nice additions to your village!
Now, let’s talk about iron. Iron is super important because you need it to build Iron ships and certain buildings. Plus, if you’re lucky, you can upgrade iron into steel. So here are a few ways to get your hands on some iron:
– First, keep an eye out for the “Iron” Offer space. You might find some iron there.
– You can also check out the Ironworks. Usually, there are 3-4 pieces of iron hanging around there.
– The Marketplace sometimes has an iron up for grabs. Grab it while you can!
– Make a pit stop at the Hardware Store. They usually have 1 piece of iron up for sale.
– Okay, now for the secret spot: the Black Market. If the “Iron” Offer space is empty, you can find 2 pieces of iron there. Sneaky, huh?
– Lastly, the Special Buildings come to the rescue again. The Iron Mine and Coal Seam provide 2 units of iron each, and the Smelter gives you 1.
But what about steel? Don’t worry, I gotcha covered. Just keep an eye out for future info. It’s always good to be prepared!
If you want to build steel ships, luxury liners, or a bank in this game, you’ll need steel. You can also use the Shipping Line to transport steel for a cost of 8 Francs.
- Iron can be turned into steel at the Steel Mill. It takes 5 energy to produce each steel.
- The Steelworks is a special building that can upgrade 1 iron and 15 energy into 2 steel.
- If you need steel, you can exchange 4 goods at the Business Office to get 1 steel.
- If you need iron for a construction project, you can use steel as a substitute.
How can I obtain brick?
Brick is another important resource in the game. You’ll need it to upgrade wharves and construct various buildings.
- You can find 1 brick in the Hardware Store.
- To make brick, clay needs to be fired at the Brickworks. The energy required per brick is unknown.
How Special Buildings Help in Town Construction
There are certain special buildings in the town that play a crucial role in the construction process. Let me tell you about them:
- The Kiln is a special building that converts 1 clay and 1 energy into 3 bricks. Additionally, players can receive 1 brick in the Town Square.
- The owner of the Masons’ Guild is quite fortunate as he saves 1 brick every time he builds something. This helps him save on resources. If clay is needed for construction, players can use bricks instead.
- In the Business Office, any 1 good can be exchanged for 1 brick. This can be a useful option if you find yourself in need of some extra bricks.
What Can You Do With Leather?
When you have cattle and choose to slaughter them, you will receive hides. These hides can be processed into leather at the Tannery. Leather is a valuable resource that can be sold for a profit of 4 Frances per unit using the Shipping Line.
Hey there! So, here’s the scoop. Leather is made over at the Tannery. You can sell it for a sweet profit of 4 Francs each by using the Shipping Line. But wait, there’s more! There are four special buildings where you can also sell your leather – the Clothing Industry, Furriery, Leather Industry, and Furniture Factory. Talk about options, right? Oh, and even if you just turn hides into leather, you’ll make 1 Franc for each piece. Not too shabby!
What Should I Do with My Buildings Near the End of the Game?
Just a little heads-up: you can’t buy buildings during the Final Stage, so plan accordingly. Here are some nifty actions you can take with your buildings:
- The Bridge over the Seine is perfect for selling any goods you don’t need anymore.
- The Steelworks is where you can produce some shiny steel for Steel ships and Luxury Liners.
- Need to build some Steel ships and Luxury Liners? Head on over to the Wharf.
- Don’t forget about the Shipping Line! Use it to ship your goods to make even more moolah.
I’ve learned that to construct the Town Hall, Bank, and Church, the Craftsman’s buildings play a crucial role. Additionally, the Joinery helps me earn an additional 7 Francs. And there are other Special buildings that allow me to make money too. These are the key elements that I should keep in mind if I want to succeed.
